I have been taking classes at KR Training for a little over a year now. Karl runs a top notch place and his instructors - I have not found a bad apple yet. He hosts traveling trainers that are just great. Getting his coins are 'a thing'! read more

I started training in self defense handgun skills with Karl Rehn and John Daub in 2017. Now, 4 years later, I keep coming back. This is where I take my family for training. Now I am a coin holder in KR Training's Defensive Pistol Skills Program, a certified National Rifle Association trainer for Basic Pistol Skills, and a much better self-defender. read more

Karl, John, Greg, Tom, and all the other instructors here are incredible, patient, wise, and they take pride in their quality INSTRUCTION first and foremost. Their goal is to make you a responsible, proficient, safe, accurate gun owner. The classes are PACKED with live shooting, as well as very good and engaging classroom instruction. The instructor:student ratio is excellent, guaranteeing students get attention they need. A-Zone range is an excellent facility, with ample range space and an excellent shoot house. There's nothing more you could ask for. If you're a responsible, armed Texan, you would be doing yourself a favor by signing up for a few classes every year at KR. read more

I highly recommend KR Training. I had done my homework in researching the background, and qualifications of different places to take classes and knew KR was the best choice. I expected knowledgeable instructors, and my expectations were met or surpassed. John, and the assistant trainers did a superb job. In addition to the commanding knowledge of the subject matter, John is an excellent teacher. He utilized strategies to enable students to comprehend and retain information that reached to all learning styles: visual, oral, tactile, etc. The classroom portions were energetic, the flow of information was well timed, the climate for learning was established and maintained whether in the classroom or on the range. I was a classroom science teacher for 10 years, my masters is in education. I am subject to a lot of continuing education with licenses under Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation as well as the State Board of Educator Certification. So often the people with the most expertise have very little skill in imparting that knowledge. That is not the case with the staff at KR Training. On the range I received corrections and tips from all three of the assistants, the questions I asked were answered with comprehension of what I was asking and clear understandable answers. All the instruction met me at the knowledge and skill level I arrived with, and moved me toward the goal. I also found as I listened to the instruction being given to others who were experiencing difficulties or struggling with concepts, what they were doing well was a foundation for encouraging them to learn the next step. After a full day of classes I had some questions about problems I was having with a different pistol than I had used that day. One of the trainers assisting, Ed, took extra time to help me further and quickly isolated the issue. I have already signed up for my next class with KR, and am looking forward to getting my sons and college age daughter into these classes as soon as schedules allow. The states minimum proficiency and no practical physical or mental preparedness is not a high enough standard when it comes to my family. Thankfully I found KR Training. read more

I have taken multiple classes from Karl and the instructors at KR training. He brings in top notch instructors that have great real world information to teach. I can not even begin to tell you all of the ways he has helped me improve. He is so knowledgeable in his field I have yet to meet another individual that can adjust small details and improve the way I shoot 100%. I'm a girl and was taught by a male family member to hold my gun and it always seemed a little uncomfortable. Karl made a super small adjustment to my hands and was able to help me hold my weapon and feel so much more confident. I didn't have any of the issues I had before with loosing my grip and constantly re adjusting. It's not just a classroom setting where you go outside, fire at a paper, get a score and leave type place. When you go be ready to be fully engaged in whatever training you are attending. If your looking for a great spot to learn, this company will not disappoint. read more

Thank you, Karl and John, for taking care of my family and myself. During the May 5 Basic Pistol 2 class, every instructor was professional in all aspects and, most importantly to me, attentive to my brother's and father's mobility issues. The new (to me) instructors that John had working with him were impressive. I am not surprised. Karl helped me color the sights of my son's new M&P M2.0 Compact. My son went through the BP2 with the white 3-dot but I Sharpied the rear black and used bright orange nail polish on the front before he did the Defensive Pistol Skills 1. Thanks, Karl. I spent three years as an instructor and course manager at the Army's Field Artillery School and 11 years in the same capacity with the Texas National Guard's Regional Training Institute. I'm also certified in civilian instruction and corporate development. I continue to be impressed by the quality of KR Training instruction and instructors. Y'all conduct each exercise with exacting safety and handle even such exciting instances as the hot-brass-down-the-shirt dance with precision and grace. What I have never seen or experienced at KR Training is condescension or rudeness. Y'all work with the students where they are in their self-defense decisions and enable them to become as proficient as they can be in their personal situation. Y'all challenge your students, within their personal limitations, and help them to stretch themselves to attain new capabilities. You introduce proven concepts and encourage your students to incorporate what works best for them. At each step, y'all consistently and effectively emphasize safety, the law, and real-world applications of self-defense. I have paid for my three sons, my youngest brother, and my father to take full and private classes from y'all. In every case, it has been time and money well spent. I will continue to train with y'all, send my family members, and encourage my friends and acquaintances to seek you out. O. L. J. 3 Captain, US Army (Ret) read more

Just moved to Texas and was looking for a place to attend firearms training. Took their NRA instructor course and couldn't have been happier with the training. I thought I had a fair amount of knowledge and training after over two decades as a LEO, but Ken corrected many issues that have flown under my training radar. I couldn't have been happier and plan on taking additional course is the near future. read more

I've taken several classes at KR Training, the latest was Defensive Pistol - Back Up Gun. Karl and his staff are very good - classes deliver the knowledge, skills, and attitude for the subject area and are planned to run at a pace that keeps one interested. Karl sizes his class so that each student gets the attention they need. Classes range from "haven't touched a gun" to honing the skills of an expert. Classes are comfortable yet challenging at each level. read more

I hadn't had any formal training prior to my 1st class but have been shooting for almost 40 years, I learned I was mostly doing it all wrong. Extremely knowledgeable instructors, great location, I had a blast! I'll be going back for more classes. I would recommend KR Training to anyone who owns or plans on buying firearms. read more

I just completed the Defensive Pistol Skills-1 course which I highly recommend to anyone starting out in shooting, wanting to brush up on their skills, or trying to figure out why they're shooting low and to the left. Karl and his assistant instructor are not only knowledgeable, they are effective trainers, skilled in both weapons and in teaching. I paid $80 for the course and it was well worth it. Safety is their paramount concern followed by helping students become more effective. I now know what I need to concentrate on to make myself more accurate and effective. I will take this course again to see how much I've improved and I will sign up for others. I recommend KR training! read more
Hands down, the best self defense training in Central Texas. They cover it all, from hosting classes with fabulous guest instructors on "unarmed self defense" and "defensive knife" to in-house tactical firearms classes and basic firearms instruction. They have a diverse group of intelligent, creative and kind instructors (men and women) that will challenge you to learn, improve and progress. They are not "self defense elitists" who think their way is "the only way". They teach firearms and self defense combat skills, not "martial arts" per se. The classes are fun and include class lecture, practice, simulations, real time scenario based training, training "dummy" weapons, real weapons, props, demonstrations, worksheets, homework, partner exercises, practical educated advice, personalized instruction, etc. etc. Not to mention, very reasonable pricing. Just as they challenge their students to learn, improve and progress, so they do as well. Don't take this to mean that they don't know their stuff. They aren't just the best in Central Texas, they are some of the best trainers in the country and that is their proud reputation, well earned and humbly accepted. Want to be safer in the world? They can help. Own a gun? Know how and when to use it! Go check out Karl, Penny and their team of knowledgeable and friendly instructors at KR Training. read more

I have been going to KR Training for 2 years now. During that time I have had the opportunity to experience training from other schools also. The quality of training and experience of the instructors at KR Training is simply the best of any I have experienced. They are experts and know how to teach students. EVERYONE should take a class from them. read more

I'm not one to rave about anything, but I'm raving about this place. If you're on the fence about it, don't be. Sign up for a class. The instructors are laid-back and friendly but very knowledgeable and give you tons of personal attention. They know you've come to learn about guns and they make sure that you do. read more

As you will read in other reviews, the facilities are safe and and excellent for learning. This review is specifically about Karl Rehn, instructor and owner. Karl is very knowledgeable and skilled as an instructor: - He is excellent at diagnosing accuracy issues, coaching while you are shooting, and providing drills and activities that correct marksmanship errors. I drove 250 miles one way for a training with Karl and it was worth every dollar and every mile in the truck. Not only do I shoot better but also it is very clear to me specifically what I need to do to continue to improve. I learned a number of coaching skills to help others. - He knows the research and he keeps abreast of what is happening in the industry. - He accommodates handicaps: e.g. I do not hear well, which Karl knew from a questionnaire. He had a portable sound system on the range. Another student had an artificial leg. On one drill Karl quietly and discretely told the student that he did not have to do a back up that could have caused him to fall. - Karl wants his students to succeed. He will run a drill again after he diagnoses a shooting issue and work with an individual shooter. In my case, Karl selected specific drills to help me to succeed at a qualification I had coming up. When we exchanged emails a couple of weeks prior to my participation Karl suggested a specific sight change that would give me a better change of shooting from farther back and he suggested specific ammunition to tighten groups. Best of all - it worked! I passed the qualification. - If you want to improve Karl will help you to make it happen! He has passion for shooting and he has the credentials to prove that he can do what he is teaching you to do. - Karl's prices are very reasonable for someone with his skills. John W. read more

I attended Karl's advanced pistol class in Culpepper Virginia. The class started with an excellent medical briefing and firearms check. Most of the shooters had striker fired pistols with one DA/SA and two 1911s. The 1911s were the only firearms with problems.( Sorry guys )The first drill comprised of 25 yard bullseye shooting which was very humbling but showed a lot of problems. The first half was correcting some shooting problems, apparently I can't reload, the second half were performance drills to show you how to improve. The class was well run and moved along briskly. We didn't use all the ammo which showed Karl was also thinking about our wallets. His classes are well worth the money. The range in Culpepper which is owned By John Murphy of FPF Training was basic but well arranged. Gary also did an excellent job as an AI. If you get the chance take a KR Training class, you will not regret it. read more

The courses offered at KR Training are educational, thought provoking, and life changing. After attending the Active Shooter/School Safety course (June 2018), I left being empowered to protect myself and my family. You (Karl), your RSO's and guest instructors always take the time to give individual attention to each student when training outside, and to encourage thinking outside the box during lecture courses. I always walk away with valuable information and new goals to obtain. A sincere THANK YOU to you Karl, to your staff, and to your guest instructors. read more
