Yamato was the first Japanese restaurant I ever went to when I first came to live in Monterrey…read more They have one location next to the Tec campus and it was the fanciest place many of us could afford. Several years later I still enjoy it, although now in their San Pedro location. The ambiance is more Japanese and the menu is enormous! Upon arrival we met a group of Japanese friends having dinner and trying things we had never seen before. We were adventurous and tried the fogu soup, gyozas and yakisoba. Since the menu is so big you can never be bored. Additionally, it serves real traditional Japanese dishes that are hard to find in Monterrey where people like tropicalized Mexican maki rolls. This place never disappoints and is a crowd pleaser since both food and service are great. Always recommended!

The only thing I'd say that threw me off a little was the strong garlicky flavor the broth had. Also the noodles were similar to the instant ramen noodles so the texture isn't the best. The service was quick and efficient. Not my favorite spot but I would recommend.

I like how laid back the atmosphere is and depending on how busy you have to wait for your food. Which is a good sign that nothing is pre made! Father and son work side by side and take their time making delicious sushi rolls. The tempura is lightly battered...the fried rice exceptional. I can't wait for a return visit. Simply delicious
