This memorial was put together by private citizens and veteran donations with a huge amount of help from both the Korean community and South Korean Government. Over 4.5 million dollars to get it done. A remarkable monument of a remarkable generation of freedom fighters. As a small piece of information the Marine whose back you see going up the ladder at the sea walls of Inchon was killed seconds later and received the Medal of Honor. Baldomero López (August 23, 1925 - September 15, 1950) was a first lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He posthumously received the Medal of Honor for smothering a hand grenade with his own body during the Inchon Landing on September 15, 1950. He was a platoon commander with Able Co. 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment. His Commanding Officer then Captain now retired Lt. Col. John Stevens still resides in San Francisco and is one of the main people getting this monument built. God Bless them all. Semper Fidelis read more
