The Painted Ladies are some houses that aren't that colourful or the cutest in the city, but the beautiful view of the city in the back makes this such a nice view! It was so lovely seeing so many people sitting on the grass on a sunny afternoon. I also came here during a chilly sunset hour, and even though the Painted Ladies are in the opposite direction, the sky looked very pretty during the sunset. Such a serene spot. Bring some food or dessert and have a picnic. Definitely don't think this is worth it for a short trip to the city, but it was a great spot to just chill.
Another fun nostalgic tourist attraction. The pretty group of townhouses, dubbed "Painted Ladies" because of their pretty pastel colors, these 6 houses appear in the opening introduction/credits of the former show "Full House". This can be viewed from the hill at the Alamo Park across the street. A fun place to stop and take pictures.
I always think of the Full House show when I see the Painted Ladies. I took my visiting tourist friend here to take photos and take a short break/rest in the small park square in front of the row of homes. We noticed the playground in the middle of the park had a cute drawn outline of the Painted Ladies in their metal playground. Visit was short and sweet. Street parking is available around the neighborhood but you'll likely have to look and drive around to snag a spot since this is a popular tourist site. I hadn't been back to this area of SF for some time so it was nice to be a local tourist again.
I've visited The Painted Ladies a few times before but when in SF it is always a nice little stop. The houses are charming, the view is nice, and the park across the street is one of the best places to sit and rest, and there's public bathrooms, water fountains, and water bottle refillers. Noticed signs where you can tour a couple of the houses. Not really interested myself but could be fun for those visiting as well.
Great views at this touristy attraction located next to Alamo square. Great to sit and reflect plus see views of San Francisco beyond.
Been to San Francisco numerous times, but finally made the visit to the Painted Ladies on my last trip. Located right next to Alamo Square, these seven houses are a common destination to visit with their vibrant colors. We were, luckily, able to find a place to park on the street less than a block away. Easy walk through the park. Nice view of the houses from the hill of the park. Colors weren't as vibrant as I expected, but they were majestic none the less. If you have time to visit the Painted Ladies, then they're worth a quick stop. If you're strapped for time, I'd either do a quick drive-by or skip it all together.
If you grew up in the 90s and watched Full House, this is it. Most people come to take a picture and chill. There's a park across the street that people just go to hang out. The park has plenty space and shade for just straight chilling. There's also a playground and bathrooms for people. There are some vendors trying to sell you baked goods or used clothing.
Of course I had to check out the Painted Ladies when in SF. I used to watch Full House as a kid, so it was great being able to see this in person. There are plenty of photo opportunities as it's viewable from a hilled grassy area with beautiful flowers around. A lot of people were sitting in the grass having picnics too.
On the way to dinner, we took a chance and luckily found parking next to Alamo Square Park on a Tuesday around 6pm (Oct 2025). So we walked to the east end of the park for the iconic view of the Seven Sisters Painted Ladies, a string of 1890's Victorian houses at 710-720 Steiner Street. They are painted brightly, which was a somewhat-criticized tradition in the 1880's, though I read that the current colors were part of the "colorist movement" in the 1960s-70s, not hewing to the original hues. We climbed the hill in the park to get close to the postcard view, with the San Francisco skyline behind the houses. You would get prettier photos earlier than the shadowed evening, but we were happy to do just fine without the need for a drone :-) These homes are lovely and fun, if you find parking.
Famous cluster of homes on a photogenic hilltop [San Francisco CA] Even though I've seen the iconic Painted Ladies many times I still like to admire this historical row of Victorian houses every time we're in San Francisco. They are well-known for appearances on movies and TV shows. To get a good shot of all seven homes I went across the street at Alamo Square, (just remember the opening sequence of Full House). These pastel-colored homes, standing shoulder-to-shoulder on the gentle slope of Steiner Street is also called "Postcard Row." When I visited last Saturday several people, locals and tourists alike, were taking advantage and enjoying the beautiful day at Alamo Square. The sun shiny day brought people out and so many were just chillaxing on the grass or benches... you can easily tell who the tourists were... they were the ones taking photos of the Painted Ladies LoL! I know to some they're just a bunch of houses but it's worth a stop. Nice view of the city in the background. Parking may be hard to find though... Review #0478 updated
Went by the Painted Ladies when I was in SF the other weekend as I had seen people saying you need to do this online. I honestly wasn't familiar with them prior to this, learned it was a row of homes, went there and was totally underwhelmed. Across the street is a grassy hill that was full of people sitting/laying on, looking towards the homes. So I walked over, sat down, looked at them and did not get the hype. I understand they are known from the old TV show, Full House, but you're literally just staring at a row of homes built in the 1890s. Personally, so many other more interactive, or interesting, things you can spend your time viewing, or doing, while visiting SF
If you grew up watching Full House, Painted Ladies will look very familiar to you. A line of beautiful homes with a nice park across the street. Many tourists were snapping pictures and enjoying the view from the park. While I was there, Smurfs were there taking pictures with the Painted Ladies. It was a promo picture for their upcoming movie. That was cool. Free parking on the street.

The Painted Ladies in San Francisco are a must-visit attraction. Alamo Square Park, right across the street, is a hilly and breathtaking destination. The views from the park are simply stunning, offering a picturesque backdrop for visitors. The park is well-maintained and exudes a serene and calming atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for relaxation. Living in the Bay Area for most of my life, I can't believe I'm only just now discovering this iconic San Francisco landmark. It was delightful to witness visitors capturing the beauty of the Painted Ladies as their backdrop, along with the stunning San Francisco skyline from the park's hilltop. Even if you're not a fan of the popular TV show, Full House, which popularized these iconic houses, you can still enjoy the breathtaking views of San Francisco. Alamo Park is a vibrant place, with people strolling their dogs and embracing a healthy lifestyle. I'm excited to share this gem with more people and encourage them to explore the park and immerse themselves in its natural beauty. read more

We always wanted to visit the panted ladies and we finally did, when we visited San Francisco this time around. It's a great location to take those mandatory tourist shots of the colorful Victorian houses. We were warned to be careful of the neighborhood, because it's notorious for people breaking into parked cars. We found street parking on the adjacent street, next to the park, and we actually noticed a lot of broken glass on the sidewalk from previous incidents. We parked on the side street anyway, and made sure not to leave anything in the car, or the trunk of your car have an SUV. It will not be there when you return to your car. Aside from all that, it's a cool neighborhood and it's fun hanging out at the park in front of the homes. If you're a 80's kid that liked the show Full House, this will definitely be a spot to visit. read more

Great place for an iconic view of SF! The houses are pretty and there is a lawn you can sit at and chill for some time. Parking is limited and free. read more
For anyone who grew up in the nineties and watched full house; this was a must stop. The houses were a little more worn down in person then I imagined and need a paint job. They were still really nice and the background of the city skyline provides great views read more

Painted Ladies, San Francisco's iconic row houses on Alamo Square, are a must-see photo stop. The pastel façades pop against the skyline, especially at sunset. Arrive early for the best angles, respect the neighborhood read more

I've been to San Francisco quite a few times before, but never made it to the Painted Ladies until recently. It's definitely worth the visit. Of the seven homes, the pink one may be the one you remember the most (at least I do) from Full House. While there, you could also take in views of the city, visit the small park, or have a picnic/just relax. read more

"Everywhere you look...everywhere you look..there's a heart..a hand to hold on to..." Yes, it's a tourist spot but the view and surrounding areas of Alamo Square is so gorgeous and serene. After so many trips to SF, I finally got the chance to see this in person. I'm a sucker for Victorian-style era architecture...such beautiful classy homes. Besides the seven painted ladies, there are also other houses around the area with the same Victorian style. Take some pictures...go exploring. When the weather is right, bring a blanket...grab a sandwich/bagel at one of the nearby spots and enjoy an afternoon here. This is a safe area with many other tourists, people walking their dogs etc. Didn't see any questionable or homeless people here. This was about a 20 minute Uber ride from Fisherman's Wharf. read more

If you're a kid from the late eighties/early nineties or you have kids who have watched the Full House reboot, the painted ladies are going to be in your list of photo ops. Visiting Alamo park on a weekday afternoon we were pleased to find plenty of parking all around the park. We took advantage of our rental car day to visit as the Muni doesn't have an easy route form our location. We only stopped for a few minutes but the park was pretty full of people enjoying the park. Lots of people on blankets, waking the patch and kids using the playground and even a few attempting to fly a kite but it was way too windy. Although the park was busy and a great spot to pass some time, most seemed there for the photo of the ladies. If you haven't seen it before you gotta go at least once! read more
The Painted Ladies are a row of seven homes in San Francisco across the street from the Alamo Square park. It's most well-known today for being in the opening credits of the show Full House. The houses are known as "Postcard Row" because their bright colors are aesthetically pleasing. It's one of the most photographed sights of San Francisco and there will always be a decent crowd here taking pictures. Interestingly, the phrase painted ladies refers to a style of Victorian and Edwardian homes painted in multiple colors to highlight their architectural details. There are many other homes around the world categorized with that phrase but none of them top the original Painted Ladies. read more

These charming Victorian style houses are absolutely beautiful, I couldn't help but admire them as we drove by. I found myself wondering why they're called the "Painted Ladies." I had no idea they were so famous! I wasn't really a Full House fan, so that connection went over my head, but the homes themselves are stunning. It made for a lovely stop, especially with the park right across the street where we enjoyed a relaxing picnic. read more
Walked here and sat in the nearby park at night, accompanied by assorted pals, strangers and a homeless guy listening to Bob Seger. Not Saget. I know you thought I was going there... so let's get it out of the way: No, this is not where they lived in the old TV show, Full House, even though it was in the opening credits. You should totally go visit that place though-- the people that live there now LOVE it when people climb all over their property and take photos. But as for this place, multi-colored Victorian era houses built way too close together... it's a fairy tale! Pretty view of the city at night, especially when it's clear. Even if your head isn't. The chain link fence adjacent, covered with PSA temporary murals on plywood is decidedly SF, and to be honest, doesn't do much for the ambiance. Still, a good beverage and good company... with a modicum of situational awareness after a good meal over on Divisadero? Priceless. read more

Beautiful ladies deserve all the attention. They are gorgeous and they are mature. So happy to see them keeping the historic houses through decades and not changing the style as most of these historic homes in SF have already been upgraded with a more modern makeover. A tourist spot for sure, or just locals having a picnic on the grass of Alamo Square Park admiring the horgeous Victorian houses with a background view of Downtown SF. (Known for the opening song of The Full House sitcom as the Tanner family playing in the park) These are private homes so you can only admire them from a distance or just outside. No homes are for sale now but just checked the value is from 3 to 5 million a piece. Wowzie! read more
Yes, I admit, I first saw the Painted Ladies on the credit sequence of the original "Full House" at a time when I didn't know I would live in USA. I surely wouldn't guess that I would see the Painted Ladies in person during one of my trips to San Francisco. They are located near Alamo Square and park in the Lower Haight area of the city. It is a colorful row of Victorian Houses. It is a beautiful area wherever you turn the camera around to take a picture. Nice views (it is hilly San Francisco) and the Painted Ladies are in great shape, show offy and fun. I surely was never dissappointed, it was worth my stop in the area. This attraction might not be for everyone, it is a tad off the beaten path but we enjoyed it a lot! read more

Parking can be rough, but I managed to find a spot pretty easy on the day I went. The incline to the top of the hill isn't that bad. The homes are beautiful under the setting sun but there were a lot of people and the whole experience was pretty underwhelming. The nostalgia is there, but that's about it. read more
Had to stop by this iconic spot! If you watched Full House growing up, the Painted Ladies would be a nice trip down memory lane for you. I came here and I could instantly hear the Full House theme song playing in my head. The houses look great and stayed true to the original colors and look for the most part (see my comparison pic) The park itself was on a hill. There was a playground for little kids, and another one right next to it for older kids. The park was clean. This spot is definitely a tourist spot. We parked on the street, and at the time there was plenty of parking. Unless your kid plays in the playground or you have a full on picnic there, it's a nice quick excursion to squeeze in on your way to other landmarks/destinations. read more
