The male instructors ask to touch you before touching you and always approach from where you can see if possible. That may or may not change as they get to know you. Many Hours: Other things of note... Their website says they are only open M-W & Friday but they are basically there training 7 days a week so you should talk to Sifu Starling about the schedule. Classes so far have not started exactly on time. Sometimes they run a bit early and sometimes a bit late. Knowledgeable & Honors Culture: Sifu Starling honors King Fu by displaying his lineage (Ip Man) on the walls, using much Cantonese in his teaching, and teaching about his lineage from his own Sifu up to Ip Man himself. A Family Man: Sifu Starling is a family guy. He has children of his own who are grown and who used to compete and he does very well with the children he trains. I have seen him with a 5 year old (or so) and up to a 12 year old (or so) and with adults. He is quite friendly but also professional. As his the Tai Chi Instructor, Tomas. Clean & Safe: Everything is very clean though they are working on the room leading in from the student entrance. There are two bathrooms and they are large and are meant for 1 person. Non-Discriminatory: The business owners do not discriminate. You can be male, female, young, old, thin, fit, obese, an individual of color, white, or otherwise as you are and they seem to be happy to have you. I travel a lot for work and have had various experiences being a "drop in", but I cannot say enough good things about the academy, the people who train here, and Professor Ken. My kids enjoy the classes and their swim skills have grown significantly. They started in a level two class which I would consider beginner. Some of the instructors are great while others seem to lack confidence in class progression. The YMCA also offers indoor basketball courts, cardio, weights, racketball, an indoor track, martial arts, daycare, training, and more. Room for Improvement: 1. The family dressing room shower water is extremely hot. There is no way to adjust the temperature. Be careful with children. 2. Swim class start times are inconsistent and staff somewhat unorganized. 3. Parking lot has several pot holes.

He is proud of his progress (he has progressed to an Orange belt so far), and he likes to show what he knows and feels good at. Master Brown is a great instructor for him as well. My son needs a patient person, but also consistent high expectations with praise and consequences in the mix; he gets this every time from Master and Mrs Brown. As a parent, I like all the options for attending class, as well as the fact there are often teens and adults also in class that give my son additional role models. Additionally, they've continued to provide Zoom / FB Live classes during the COVID-19 closures which has been critical in our home to providing some normality for him.
