When you are a parent, your main priority in life are your kids so their safety is of utmost importance. My husband and I have done our fair share of shopping around when it comes to day care, schools, and summer camps. When we first heard of this summer camp, we immediately checked it out, and after much consideration, we enrolled our two sons in the program. We explained to the owners (which is a family owned business) that one of my children needed extra supervision because he is autistic. They immediately responded that they had tons of experience with dealing with special needs children, so this of course was reassuring. Which pains me to write what happened yesterday afternoon. I received a call around 3:30PM (they left no voicemail), but since I was in a work training all afternoon, I was not aware of this call until 4pm. I reached out to my husband to see if they had called him to advise him of anything and he informed me that he did not receive any phone call or messages from the summer camp. My husband quickly said I will call them right now. When he spoke to the owner of the summer camp , He informed my husband that my oldest son ( 7 years old-autistic) had an accident but it wasn't "that serious", so of course my husband was worried, and since he was all the way in Miami and stuck in traffic, you could imagine the type of despair he was feeling, Upon arriving at the summer camp, he noticed that my son 1. Has a huge bump and scrape on his head, 2. His nose was bruised and swollen, 3. A bloody scrape on his chin, 4.a HUGE burn on his left arm. Can someone please explain to me how this is not "that serious"? We are the parents, and WE and only WE will determine if something is or isn't serious. So, how did all of this happen you ask? Easy! NO SUPERVISION. None whatsoever! This is what the owner and his staff states what happened: The kids went on their field trip, and upon returning, we sat all of them down so they can have some down-time and watch a movie/color pictures. So, my son runs out of the back room and heads out to the training area towards the treadmill (yes, they have treadmills, kettle bells, and weights lying around), turns it on, gets on and goes flying. Again, where in the world is the SUPERVISION? My other son, watched this happen, and ran to his brother to try and get him up, now they are both crying, and this is when someone FINALLY realizes what is going on, and they proceed to tell my son "This is what happens when you run off". EXSCUSE ME? They have no right to reprimand my son. Where were you when you were supposed to be doing your job? According to my youngest son, they were in fact watching a movie and coloring, but all the teachers were in the front office chatting, NOT WATCHING the kids, like they are paid to do. Here is my concern, what if this keeps happening, what if he would've ran out the door instead? No parent should have to go through this because of the negligence of a couple of individuals. If you can't run a summer camp, DON'T! Accidents happen however, when my husband and I placed our trust in the staff who reassured me they had experience with autistic kids in which means, you need to have a great deal of patience, time and "supervision" on them but then this accident occurs, just makes me upset. It can happened to any child at this facility including my youngest son. I think it is obvious that I will not be leaving my kids any longer, but felt the need to warn other parents about this organization.
***The week after the accident they called everyday acting like they were concerned about my sons condition. They offered two free weeks of classes but when we declined and asked them to not contact us anymore as we will not be allowing our boys back in theor care, their atittude changed. These individuals are very unethical and disrespectful. I am now proceeding with legal action due to being falsely accused of non payment for the last week my kids attended (which they owe us a reimbursement since the week was paid in full and my kids only attended for 3 days). Additionally for harassment via text and calls after hours and also personally showing up at my husbands work place.
Please take my review inconsideration and perform your due & diligence when it comes to care facilities for your kids. read more
