Once you're done enjoying the scenery, it's an easy, charming stroll right down into Old Town (Altstadt) to explore the alleyways, check out the local shops, and grab some good food. I LOVE ICE CREAM. I LOVE MAGNUM. I LOVE TRYING NEW THINGS. This was everything that I love. The lady at the stand was really nice and spoke English to me, handing me a lovely silver-wrapped Magnum to celebrate "25 years of pleasure" for CHF 3.50. Oo la la! 7% Marc de Champagne sauce + 24% milk chocolate coating + 5% outer silver coating + 0.5% alcohol = 100% deliciousness!! I really liked the crunch when I bit into the bar and tasting the creamy goodness inside. I usually don't like tasting alcohol in my sweets, but the champagne taste is quite light--almost like eating a champagne truffle--but even less so. Just enough to get a hint of champagne and all the yummy goodness of a rich Magnum ice cream. The perfect way to end lunch while enjoying the view of the beautiful snow-capped Swiss Alps across the clear blue Zurich lake. Ah...

The "gardeners" here are friendly and all smile. If you walked up the stairs, you will have a nice view and you can also exit through the upper gate.

The benches are unusually angular for such a baroque setting; sturdy enough, just odd. The upper gates (usually, but not always, open) exit out to UZH, which can make this a scenic alternative to walking on Kantonschulstrasse.

When we came across the Platzspitz Promenade, we decided to check it out for hell of it and it didn't seem so bad, considering there were some parts of the city that seemed a little sketchy. But it was during the month of May so everything was pretty lush and the weather was pretty decent for that time of year. It was mainly just something to check out while seeing what the city was about. When it came to potentially getting souvenirs though, a lot of the stores were expensive, so we opted out of that one.
