How sad: what could have been a really nice meal ended up being rather frustrating.
First things first: the food was decent, even good. I had a summer roll with shrimp and the portion was big enough to serve as a main dish (especially since we'd had a starter), it was tasty and fresh. I am not an expert on sushi, so I cannot judge whether or not the food is extraordinary in any way, but I liked it fine. The ginger was nice and spicy. Sometimes even the ginger can be disappointing, I find. The starter was ok as well: sweet potatoe cut into small spaghetti-like spirals were deep-fried and topped off with some mayo-like dip and some kress. Unfortunately, the entire mass stuck together after deep frying, so it was impossible (at least for me) to eat it with the chop sticks.
So we had ordered some drinks, the starter and the main courses and when the waitress served the starter, she had not yet thought to bring our drinks. I figured she might notice, but no such luck. It took us quite a while to catch her attention (while our starter got cold), ask about the drinks and kindly ask for some regular cutlery. I know, as sophisticated urban folks we are all expected these days to have mastered the art of chop stick eating, but I hate it when I am not at least being offered some cutlery. Especially when being served something which will require cutting of some sort.
So eventually we got our drinks (jasmine tea was frightfully over-steeped), we carefully worked our way through the sticky potatoe noodles, and then we waited quite some time for our main dishes. Even though the restaurant was not very full (just a few tables besides ours were occupied), the waitress did not once come by to ask how things were. We always had to signal to her, which was also not easy as she successfully avoided to glance our way. A lot of the tables which had been deserted already when we got there, were not cleaned up during the entire duration of our stay. Sitting amongst residues of other people's dinners was less than pleasant. The bright ceailing lights shone an unforgiving glare onto the pittiful scene. All in all that made for very poor ambience.
The main course came and tasted good, as mentioned above. Again we were ignored until signalling the waitress for the bill.
The bathrooms were somewhat dirty as well, it just looked like they are being cleaned once a week at most.
All in all: food is good, service is a catastrophe, atmosphere not inviting. So much potential wasted! read more
