Illy brand is pretty much every where in Europe. It is the reputable Italian coffee brand which became the standard of a good espresso bar. However, a good coffee isn't set only by the brand or origin of the beans. The skill of the barista is an essential part to determine how good of a coffee is. Then of course the freshness of the beans, the milk (for lattè drinks), the reliability of the machines they use etc. I've visited quite a few cafes that serve Illy coffee beans, and to be honest I wasn't so impressed. Thus when I first walked into Coffee by Teun and found out which beans they use, I was quite skeptical.
The lattè I ordered was done to perfection. The milk was steamed just right with the perfect amount of the perfectly foamed milk. I was quite impressed. At first I thought maybe the milk must have come from a local farm. Fresh milk from a local farm usually beats any milk you buy from a chained grocery store. Anyway, the milk was actually a brand you can get from any grocery store. So I can easily assume "Teun" must have trained his baristas really well. After all he does give barista workshops regularly at his coffee bar.
Aside from Illy beans that they use for their espresso drinks, they do carry beans from other local roasters: Bocca Coffee and Denf. They're both reputable roasters.
The service was extremely friendly. And when I told her I was blogging about the coffee scene in Breda, she was so generously provide any informations I need in regards to their way of serving coffee.
