I am 16 weeks pregnant. I was referred to leconte through tenncare. I don't know much about this…read moreplace nor the Dr's. But, I will tell you I'm starting to feel a little bit like I want to maybe call tenncare and change hospitals even if I have to drive farther. I went in for a pap smear and all they did was a urine test that day. Prior to that I had blood work done that included a test that gave gender results. I got all that info weeks before this appt. They said everything came back negative and the gender is a girl. Then, this dr tells me I am positive for some long name I can't pronounce I ask what is that she says it's a type of herpes that she don't know when I could've got it. She said I could have got it from the 1st time I had intercourse and didn't know it. I'm 38 years old. I'm like that's weird. Then she says some people can go there whole life without having an outbreak and asked if I've had an outbreak I said no. And then she proceeds with the pap smear and asks if I've had any strange discharge I said no. She said ok well I'm gonna have this tested just to make sure there is no infection going on. Then, when she comes back with results she says I have a bacterial infection as well as a yeast infection. I'm like wow so I have herpes, a bacterial infection, and a yeast infection. Like, wow. I believe the yeast infection considering I did have some minor itching but assumed because it was time for me to shave down there and when I shaved the itching went away. But this was like a couple days before this appointment. I however am having a hard time believing I have herpes. Mostly because I was tested for STDs 2 or 3 years ago and hadn't been sexually active at the time and everything came back negative. The only person I've been with since that is my husband and all he tested positive for since we've been together is hep C. So I'm sorry but without a blood test proving I have herpes I don't think these people should be telling there patients they are in fact positive for something unless they do the accurate test for it. I really don't think a urine test is accurate for herpes. I believe a blood test and or testing the herpes blisters will be more accurate. Oh and I've never had blisters down there. I've had ingrown hairs that's it.

I am grateful for the empowering experience I had giving birth with these midwives, and am glad they have found a new home. I just went in for my well woman check and was treated like a dear friend, and a human that mattered. It was nice to see everyone again, and receive care from provider whom takes my concerns seriously. The office is in transition as they adjust. The midwives are working with UT hospital on developing a women's pavilion or wing, complete with a natural birth center. For now, they have birth balls, showers, bars, adjustable beds, and nitrous oxide available to mothers in labor. The hospital will be installing labor tubs sometime soon. As the practice grows they plan to hire lactation consultants and educators. I am excited that UT will be teaching future OB/GYNs how to work with midwives and best support women wishing for natural labor. I look forward to watching the University Midwives flourish!

First of all, they noticed that I barely passed my glucose test and had me take the 3 hour test, which I failed. I'm so thankful to have been closely monitored in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Secondly, the delivery process was a dream. I was able to speak to the midwife on call to decide when I should come in when I started having contractions. They got me back very promptly and honored my birth plan. They explained every step of the process for me and always asked permission before doing anything. When baby girl was stuck, they worked with me for almost three hours, trying different positions to avoid using the vacuum. I cannot recommend this team highly enough!

She and the team of wonderful nurses at Fort Sanders got me through a difficult labor that required over 5 hours of pushing that ended with no instruments used and minimal, non-external tears. I felt Dr. Martin managed my and my baby's care so well the whole time. I also really appreciate that she practices alone and personally delivers every baby in her practice. That's pretty much impossible to find these days. I switched to her at 20 weeks in part because I hadn't actually gotten to see my OB yet by 20 weeks at my last practice, just nurse practitioners. I love that Dr. Martin actually sees and takes care of all her own patients.

She addressed all my concerns throughout my entire pregnancy and was very thorough during every visit. I ended up having to have a c-section and I was very nervous, but everything went great and Dr. Martin did an amazing job!! I'm 3 weeks postpartum now and my incision already looks great. Much better than I anticipated! Our baby girl is doing great too. I also had a few questions for Dr. Martin after having my baby, and she always responds to me so quickly on the online portal and keeps my mind at ease. I am so grateful we found her, and I would highly recommend her to everyone. Thank you, Dr. Martin!
