And, restaurant Dona Lucinha is well-known in Belo Horizonte for serving an authentic version of this food, in typical buffet style. The layout and design inside is rustic and casual, albeit a bit cramped - including in the buffet areas.
The dishes include a range of traditional meats, including Rabado com Agrião (Oxtail) and Frango ao molho pardo (Chicken in dark (=blood) sauce). Other options include tutu (bean puré), costelinha (ribs), linguiça (sausage), feijão tropeiro, mandioca, the slightly bitter jilo vegetable, and the delicious quiabo (okra) vegetable, a.o. The warm foods are served in traditional stone pots. There is a separate (small) area for a few cold vegetables and salads, and an excellent range of traditional desserts.
The service is very good, although this would be expected considering the price. Post-meal cafezinhos are served at the table. Our group was also treated to some delicious jabuticaba liquor.
