A few friends and I got two adjoining beachfront tent sites here last weekend. Pros: The beachfront sites are as they say - on the beach front. Fresh ocean air, a beautiful view, a beach full of seashells... There are restrooms with running water and soap available at the campground, as well as shower rooms (prepay $1.00 at the office per shower). Homer Spit Campground is within short walking distance from your pick of places to sign up for tours, eat, drink, shop, etc. Cons: The campgrounds are small enough that even when attempting to stay in your own spot, it's difficult to prevent overlapping with other campers. Prices were higher than other spots - $35.00 +tax for a tent site with no electric/water, with a two-night minimum and deposit of one night paid up front. Overall, we are glad we chose Homer Spit Campground. Between the view, ease of check-in, proximity to the Spit's activities, and campground amenities, I felt it was well worth the price. The one thing I would recommend: go earlier in the year. The wind and rain was a bit much for me in a tent. Also, if you would rather die than see other people during your camping trip, don't camp anywhere on the Spit. It stays PACKED.

The neighboring similar sites were occupied by RV's & Campervans. We did perfectly fit into the site. They didn't check us in and only refunded the money and the employee & supervisor acted extremely rude, admitted a fault in the booking system but didn't make any accommodation or exception.

I prefer to have a full hookup site, as I have a CPAP machine, and plugging into electrical is preferable. I found 1 spot at Ocean Shore, and we'd never stayed there before so I wasn't sure what to expect. The price is thereabouts the same as where we normally stay, and with all the same sort of facilities, laundry, showers, bathrooms etc. on the map of available spots, there was only 1 remaining, and by my reckoning, it appeared to be in a somewhat desirable location within the park. By that I mean that there are some sites very close to the beach walk, and with a sea view directly out of the window, and not a view of the RV parked next to you. I had managed to score site 64, which had no other sites to one side of us - meaning we had a lovely sea view. Initially I thought there was something wrong, and that when we arrived, the camp host would tell me there'd been an error with the booking software. But such was not the case, we really did have an excellent site, with a perfect view, and very close to the beach walk. However if your objective is to be close to the showers, laundry, coffee shop etc, this is not the best one. I don't know how many times I've driven past this place on the main road in Homer. I really didn't know how nice it was. The camp host literally got in her car and drove us to our site, and she then marshalled my husband into the spot perfectly. And the sites are nicely leveled out too. The trash dumpster is very close to this site, as is the doggy doo bag station. Something I noticed at this place, is that all the occupants were very friendly. I don't see that too much in other places here. Our neighbours informed us that we were now blocking their lovely sea view (jokingly) and also, that someone must have canceled, for us to have gotten the "best spot" which I have to agree with. The internet here is superb. I'm not kidding, it's better than ours at home. Streaming media with no interruptions or buffering. This is the best internet I've ever experienced in any RV park. And it's free. Denali Rainbow Village gives you half an hour free, and then you have to pay, and it's more expensive up there than it is here, without the beautiful sea view., because you get an Alaska Resident discount down here. I was told also by our neighbours that it's usually difficult to get a spot here, because people book a year in advance. So I know what I have to do if I want to stay here next year. Really nice park with great facilities, helpful staff, and I hope to stay again

Not really impressed with this particular location, although we didn't fish, so I don't know if the "catching" is good at this location. There's access to the river bank for fishing, which is why people go here. Bathrooms are clean. The vistas here aren't terribly impressive. Campsites are merely functional and nor very attractive. It's definitely geared toward RVers who are there to fish. Frankly the sites are ugly, very open and exposed. I observed a number of vacancies despite it being the beginning of fishing season which I think speaks to the overall quality of this location- dusty and desolate.

Mariner Park is a campground located right at the beginning of the famous 5-mile Homer Spit Road…read moreleading out towards Kachemak Bay in Homer, Alaska. For my first evening in Homer, AK, I was looking for a place to stay and discovered Mariner Park pretty easily through the app on my phone called, Campendium. It's $20 to camp for the night, which is pretty standard for any campground. Upon entering, the Registration Board said to find an unoccupied site, park your vehicle and then return back to the entrance area where there's an auto-payment kiosk which accepts cash or credit card. For this Mariner Park Campground, it was pretty crowded when I spontaneously arrived about 7pm over the summertime. At first, I was uncertain if I'd find an available campsite, but luckily, I did. What I noticed was, there were two distinct sections to the campground... - The right-hand side offered sites against the scenic waters and snowcapped mountains set in the distance. These were certainly the preferred campsites for obvious reasons. - The left-hand side of the campground offered sites beside Homer Spit Road. And this is where I found a spot that hadn't been taken yet. But what was deflating about these campsites situated against Homer Spit Road was how little spacing you had between yourself and the sites next to you. There was zero privacy that it was almost impossible to avoid meeting your camping neighbors, or even just trying to lounge outside without watching kids running around in every direction. To say things were a little cramped, would be quite the understatement, lol. Each campsite had firepits for barbecuing and picnic tables, but with all the wonderful seafood restaurants offered in Homer, it was much better to drive the Spit Road and purchase dinner in downtown. Although the campground road was not paved, the campsites were set on grass which made for comfortable sections setting up tents. I was surprised by how my night went here. Usually, I fall asleep easily and have no issues with the surroundings. But the noise from cars driving on Homer Spit Road was noticeably loud and distracting that I never had a fulfilling evening's rest. Plus, I underestimated how cold it got at night. I for sure could have used my portable Mr. Heater Buddy to warm myself from the elements. But I was too lazy to leave my sleeping bag and grab it out of the car in the middle of darkness, lol. Some extra notes... - There were just vault toilets for bathrooms. - No showers. - Unfortunately, no AMP powered campsites to recharge appliances. - This is a first come, first served campground. They do not accept reservations ahead of time. - There was a sign stating that campground attendants make rounds twice a day, but I never noticed anyone. - They don't offer refunds, but "rain checks" may be requested. Overall, this Mariner Park was fine as a campground. It served its purpose for the night, but aspects about it could have been better. I decided not to return here for a 2nd evening after finding more worthwhile areas along Homer Spit to stay at for the remainder of my time in Homer.
