You know what the real nightmare on 13th is? The amount of time you spend waiting in line, only to be swindled in, back to back with other patrons through the haunt. Enter Dead City, a relatively new haunt (within the past couple of years) that serves as the antidote to Nightmare on 13th. As usual, I really only knock stars because I wish the hands on experience was a bit more intense, but I get it, Dead City is brand new and probably not eager to get a lawsuit. No pun intended, there is a little bit of "dead space" where it's a bit thematically dull, and the scares are in short supply. But my God, when these people scare you they SCARE you. I came on Halloween, and I don't know if it was the last day of the season or what, but those actors were insane. Lots of rooms are really creative, and the end is essentially a maze. Where the actors will not help you out just to rush you along. Last night we went for "Krampus" night, which was festive as all get out. It was essentially a 2 for 1 experience. You got to have some scares, and see some Christmas lights. What's a word for something that's both fantastic and terrifying at the same time? Nonetheless, loved the creativity. As far as I know, they're the first of the haunts to ever do anything like this, and hopefully they make it a tradition. See ya'll next year!

They definitely put in a lot of effort and I really liked the Christmas lights everywhere. It was a really fun outing that is a little different from the normal Christmas activities.

i bought tickets for family members as a gift. we all went to "Thriller". don't waste your money…read more i am embarrassed that this was their gift. the cost is the same as Hale Theater, go there instead!!!! i'm not sure who wrote the script, they need to go back to the drawing board. the performers talents were wasted in this show!!!! soooo sooo unfortunate, so much filler that didn't make any sense. seemed like something for grade schoolers. Bubbles the Klown's opening act needs to be cut and his character changed. more dancing and singing would have been great. that's what i thought we had purchased tickets for. soo disappointing.

I'd never heard of it until I discovered that they were playing Rocky Horror Picture Show-the live version. Since our annual pilgrimage to Tower Theater didn't happen this year (thanks Covid) I was eager to find an alternative. It wasn't until my wife and I pulled into the parking lot, 30 minutes before showtime, that we realized this wasn't the movie, this was a real honest-to-goodness play. Gulp. How was this going to be? Fast forward a couple hours...it was AMAZING! I know this review isn't about the show itself, but rather the venue. So I'll say that the theater itself was beautiful, very comfortable and spacious. It accommodated a large audience nicely, with plenty of legroom and aisle space. I didn't feel cramped, like I do in other local, small theaters. Parking is plentiful, and free. I felt like our car was safe in the lot, and it was well lit, providing extra security. Now that I know this little gem is here, I'll look into what other plays they have coming up and will very likely return.

Salt Lake City has a large offering of cultural activities for a city with a rather modest…read morepopulation. Local venues provide opportunities to listen to Rock, Folk, Country, Bluegrass, Opera, and Classical music. Theatre, dance, and choral performances are all available. However, jazz clubs and venues are slim and not readily available here. This is not what you would call a sultry and urbane town. "Paris Blues" this is not. SLC is not "nocturnal" or "kind of blue." Miles did not create music for kayaking. JAZZSLC overcomes this demographic handicap by bringing in world renown jazz artists eight times a year to perform at the Capitol Theater. Last Friday, Dianne Reeves, and her amazing vocal artistry, brought some needed soul to our fairly white washed city. Her accompanying band was hot, with the Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo, almost stealing the show. It was FANTASTIC! The average age of the attendees was around 87 years old. Where were all the young SLC hipsters who profess to loving all kinds of music? Was everyone hiking, climbing, or biking? When I was in my twenties and thirties I listened to an array of music. My eclectic tastes stretched from Hendrix, Mettalica, and Joni Mitchell to Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Ali Akbar Kahn. I also listened to Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter, and Rogers and Hammerstein. The Millenials and Hipsters claim to be so cooler and aware than us old farts. However, if your tastes are so damn narrow and myopic that anything you don't hear on the radio or is not labeled "Indy," is ignored and shunned, you are boring beyond belief and I can understand how this country ends up with the banal and fake choices we have in this year's presidential election. People in their twenties, thirties, and forties need to pull their heads out of their homogenous and superficial world and start acquiring a sense of what is special and unique. Orwell warned us, but it seems young people just don't care.
