On multiple occasions…read moreI made an additional payment to my TD HELOC with clear instructions that it go toward principal reduction -- only to find out later that it was mischaracterized as a regular payment. I would guess this has happened at least ten times. The local branch people are not the problem. In fact the branch employees have been very helpful when it comes to getting the payments recharacterized. I suspect the problem lies with the system/process, that this "mistake" is being made with other customer accounts, and that not all customers catch it (which means more interest/profits for TD). If in the future I am invited to participate in a class action lawsuit I will not be at all surprised.
