We fell upon Community Thrift Store almost inadvertently. They have plenty of framed pictures and wall hangings, some well-priced, some over the top. I have no interest in anything mass-produced that looks like it belongs in Motel Six. Simply put, I know what I like when I see it. And I saw it! A nicely framed, beautifully matted and signed photograph by R.C. Fulwiler from Saugatuck, MI. Reasonably priced at $15, it was also eligible for a 40% discount. Score! Community Thrift has furniture, most in very good shape. (Maybe I should have bought the solidly-built handmade table, also priced at $15.) There's a rack of clothing, supposedly from Chico's -- eh -- and other items one normally finds thrifting. Walking out I noticed that the store is under the direction of Shell Point, a wonderful senior community that houses the Tribby Gallery. (Tribby's exhibits always pique my interest. If you're local, check their schedule.) Proceeds go towards combatting Parkinson's disease. I like this place!

The thrift store had ample parking and was in a large building. It had a little bit of everything. There's a small section of cookware, China, and bric a brac near the front of the store. But nothing too exciting. A lot of women's clothing, a small section with books, toys, CDs, etc. And on one side of the store, some furniture. Prices were quite inexpensive. All clothing was only $2.99 that day. And seniors got other discounts. There was a great leather chair that would been perfect for us -- if it had been in Fort Lauderdale (!) -- but was too bulky to drive around with. My husband did find a shirt that he liked. And it was a bargain at under $2! I'm sure we'd stop back by if in the area. These places get lots of donations here and the merchandise changes often.

Also, they offer free pickup of gently used furniture. Their signage suggests they are trending toward an emphasis on furniture, art, clothes, books and DVDs. However there are other items available. I sifted through some bins of kitchen utensils and found a few that fit my needs. The bins weren't marked but they suggested a price I was willing to pay and I walked away happy.

Perfect example today there was a set of four glasses for $22. You can buy the same set with a variety of colors a set of six for $17 brand new. Just go and explore cause you'll find things there that you can't buy in the store and it's decorated pretty cute and the service is usually friendly. I can only talk about it from a purchase consumer standpoint, not a consigner standpoint. But I will continue to go back.
