It wasn't busy when we arrived in the afternoon on a Sunday, and they greeted us right away to do the free tasting. It was conducted in a smaller, cooler room, with baskets of their cheeses lining the wall. Our guide/server was very friendly. We tried a handful of their more popular cheeses, and left with some delicious wedges to enjoy on the road. I liked their classic Just Ewe semihard cheese, which had a simple and light sheep's milk flavor, almost an even lighter flavor than basques that I've tried in the past. The peppercorn brie was unique, offering a kick of peppercorn flavor that paired very well with the mild nuttiness of the brie. They provided an ice pack to help keep the cheese cool while I was on the road, a nice touch. They also make coffee beverages here. Their long black was good, perfect for the drive ahead. Recommend for a stop!

Out back is a big industrial kitchen and in front, a temperature controlled cheese room & store front. Here the expert staff are happy to talk you through their different cheeses but if i'm honest, i've never had a bad one! My favourites would have to be their halloumi (the perfect amount of squeak and it hold it's shaped when fried, unlike some other NZ halloumi) and their washed rind, which is deliciously creamy but not too strong. They also sell coffee, crackers and chutney!

The inside was a bit spartan, but had everything we required. Service was a little on the slower side, but it was off-season. To be honest, it gave us just the break from driving we needed. Everything was delicious, service was friendly, and we bought a little cheese for the road.

This is the only organic shop left in Hamilton, back in the 90s there were a handful of lively…read moreoutlets dotted around the suburbs but they died out. Luckily Village Organics has upped its game and cleaned up the shelves and improved on the freshness of the produce. The shop is located at the end of the 'Main Street' Commerce Street of Frankton Village, where they hold the outdoor busy weekly Frankton Market which has crafts and food. The lines that are stocked in this shop have expanded over the years and you can now buy almost everything available at your local Huckleberry or Harvest but with a dollar or so more added to the price tag. For example the Brinks organic chickens which are $25 at New World Auckland are $30 here. And the Pacific Hazelnut milk I'm addicted to is $6.60 in Auckland but $7.45 here. Considering the extra costs of transport and scale of the business I think the price is worth it! The staff are friendly, they gave me some ground cloves from their kitchen for free as there were none on the shelves. The younger shop workers are always willing to ask their seniors if you have a query. You can get chilled sweet slices and cakes in the small cabinet near the checkouts, check them out next time you visit the Tron.

I would give a lower star rating due to the super high prices of everything (from the honey to the lotion) but the honey was the best honey I have ever had in my life. Hence the 4 star rating. I was disappointed because I figured honey would be a perfect souvenir since it would be unique and not too expensive. Well I was mistaken. Only come here if you are ready to spend a pretty penny. The best honey was about $20 for a smaller container. I was ready to spend maybe twice as much as the honey I normally buy but for 5 times the price it just wasn't worth it. They had some neat honey based lotions and soaps but those were super expensive as well. I didn't want to spend another $20 on a tiny travel-size container of lotion. I would come here just for the tastings. And maybe have their honey ice cream. But that's it.

This place is perfect for those special recipes where you just need a cup of something rather than a kilo . And so much cheaper than a supermarket !
