If you want to adopt "lie" is the keyword. Do not say anything but that you want the cat to be inside 100% of the time. These things do not matter: you can donate any amount of money, you can volunteer, you can foster, you have multiple scratching posts, you have custom cat shelves for your cats, you take your cats to the vet, you provide expensive prescription food, your whole family loves cats and you have a large cat tattoo on your arm... lie and say you only will allow your cats INSIDE... that is literally the only word Kitty Kat Haven cares about "INSIDE". Really enjoyed how the cats are treated here. Although I didn't find the one for me, I really respect what they're doing here. It is a house of cats mostly adults and teenagers. Each has a story of being rescued. Each has ample space to roam and rest. They all look well fed and nurtured. You fill out an application on their website. Then they contact you once approved. If approved you get a cat with all their shots and a chip for about $125. I think the $25 is for the application fee. There was this particular mama tabby cat that I felt drawn to, but my nephew scared her away. Since these cats are rescues, they need more time to adapt to their surroundings and become comfortable with their owners. I can tell they're really cared for here. I left feeling that even though I didn't get to rescue a cat, that they're having a wonderfully pleasant life at Kitty Cat Haven. Their Insta and Facebook have new cats listed. On your application you can request a certain cat, but I recommend visiting with the cat first to see if there is a match. read more

Any negative reviews of Kitty Kat Haven you see here should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Any good cat parent knows that cats should never be allowed outside. Nothing good can come from it. Also, if you have trouble contacting someone there, please be patient. Every person involved there is a volunteer, and while they pour everything they have into saving cats and placing them in good homes, they are human and have lives outside of the Haven, just like everyone else. Maybe instead of complaining, you should volunteer your time there. Volunteers are always needed and perform some vital tasks. There are not enough people to help. So please take that into consideration, and be patient. I've been involved in rescue for a long time, and I can promise you that any poor reviews of this rescue are just sour grapes. No one cares for cats more than Kitty Kat Haven, and no one sacrifices more to make sure every single cat is placed in the best possible home. read more

After fostering for them and raising hundreds of dollars for them, I wanted to adopt a single kitten. They attempted to emotionally gaslight me into adopting multiple cats or an older cat, which is not what I wanted. When I complained about it, they cut off all contact with me, instead choosing to have a war of words on their Google review page where they went and posted private text messages between me and one of their staff. Definitely not the kind of people that you want to trust your address or social security number with. I would NOT waste your time trying to adopt from here. They ignore your messages and have to be harassed to respond. I stated in my application that I wanted the cat to stay indoors only, and they denied me. They told me since I had selected the inside/outside option I was AUTOmatically denied. Even though I had ALSO included in my description that I preferred the cat to stay indoors only. They obviously didnt even take the time to look over my application. Nor would they reconsider once I pointed that out to them. I wasted 4 days messing with this "organization" . Make sure you select INDOOR ONLY on all options if you want to adpot a cat/kitten from them, and save yourself some time. p.s. Kitty Kat Haven, I'm sure you'll be quick to respond to this negative review, but How about you use your time wisely and respond to emails of people who are willing to drive over an hour and spend $135 to adopt a cat. Went in to look at some of the furry friends and met Zeke who we instantly fell in love with. We asked how we could go about adopting him because we learned he had been there since he was a kitten, he at this point is 3 years old. We filled out the adoption paperwork the day after meeting zeke, we figured to give them a week to go over our application. After a week we were expecting a call, email, text, ANYTHING. Nothing was received, so we decided to try and call them, no answer. We tried again, no answer. We heard absolutely nothing from Kitty Kat Haven. We then checked previous reviews where other people state the same problem, no communication. We didn't receive any news and it has been well over a month now. I would not recommend going here to adopt, they refuse to let go of any of their furry friends. Very frustrating experience. read more

Original review... If I could rate them lower I would. They never responded to my application request for adoption. The only good thing that came out of them is because of their lack of response is that I went to GBHS and adopted the best two kittens. I would not recommend them nor will I suggest that you waste time going to them. Spend your time, effort and caring hearts by adopting from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Update: KKHR finally responded several weeks later and this is their opening statement. "J, We owe you an apology as your application slipped thru the cracks. Are you still interested in adopting?" Now if an application for adoption slipped through the cracks, I wonder how many kittens or cats have slipped through as well. I am very happy that I did not loose faith and went to GBHS because everything they have done from adoption, setting up a board certified pet hospital, that reached out to me to set up my first wellness and health appointment and all the other awesome things since bringing home my two new fur-babies. Every time I arrived, I was greeted by kind volunteers and sociable felines. Whether it be from kittens born to stray moms that would otherwise live on the streets, to stray cat moms who need a refuge, to those felines that have been abandoned by humans and left to the elements, Kitty Kat Haven opens their doors and welcomes them in. They provide remedial care if needed, current care by local vets and food, housing and a lot of love and comfort. They are a no cage, no kill facility. I cannot say enough about the wonderful things that are happening at Kitty Kat Haven! Per their facebook page, their mission is "To rescue abandoned, stray and injured cats and kittens, provide the cats with vetting and spay/neuter, and then offers the rescued kitties for adoption into safe, welcoming homes." "Kitty Kat Haven is a no-kill, no cage cat sanctuary for over three dozen rescued cats and kittens. Kitty Kat Haven is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that depends soley upon volunteers and donations to feed and care for the residents awaiting adoption into forever homes." When visiting pet shelters/rescues in the past, I would leave with a pit in my stomach. I hate seeing animals that are living in cages and are usually not given the attention that they need. When I left the Kitty Kat Haven for the first time, I felt the complete opposite. These cats are allowed to run all over the house that they live in and play to their hearts content! The volunteers at the Haven truly care for cats and spend hours with them every day while cleaning up around the house, etc. I adopted a cat from the Haven about a month ago and everyone up there was so happy to answer the (numerous) questions I had. Terrible service. They stole my cat and her babies. I had a friend of mine watch my cat and her kittens and the friend put my pets in this fostering group and when I called Kitty Kat Haven and rescue to explain the situation and try to get my pets back, they Said that they did not know what to do and that they would call me back. I never got a callback. So I called them myself and they said that they would not be able to get me my animals back because I did not have paperwork proving that they were mine. This did not make sense to me because my friend did not have paperwork proving that they were hers when she put them in this fostering group. My pets have now been adopted out and I don't know where they are. They still part of my family from me. read more
