As someone who's studying mixology on a more frequent basis, I had a great amount of respect for the bar program at Rex. Take a peek at the glorious bar stocked with spirits old and new. My first drink was the Old Pal, think a Manhattan sub dry vermouth for sweet vermouth. This innovative twist on the classic cocktail was delicious. Served straight up, I absolutely loved the flavor profiles and appreciated the balanced proportions. After that, I stuck with Ron Swanson's personal preference, Lagavulin neat. Hell, I was on vacation and wanted some single malt Scotch! Bartenders were equipped and professional, although not ones to invade our space. We chatted for hours with a friend we made during our dinner at Pizza Man. The cool thing about Rex is that there are so many different options of night you can have. Going hard? Stand near the DJ and take shots of Fernet. Staying low key? Sip a cocktail while sitting in an intimate booth. Here the night is what you make it. A memorable night indeed at Rex, I hope to visit again in the future!

The place itself is really small with just one or two rooms and a 'prive' vip area that looked to be VIP in 1985. Think tacky blue velvet everywhere with a smoky stench (vip = you can smoke there). We ended up going to the bar for a drink which was a pathetic 10 euros, really? I stood and watched them give me no rum, and all coke. nice, i just paid 10 euros for a coca cola. That along with the pink balloons made me feel very much ready for a 'kids party'. The music was... very 80's. While there were a few good songs and I LOVE 80's music, most of the music wasn't the best kind to dance too, but you couldn't tell from looking at the DJ who looked to be directly from the film 'back to the future'. We ended up having a ton of fun because me and my friends made the most of the whole ridiculous atmosphere. I swear, I don't think i saw enough hooker heels in my life. I recommend perhaps sprucing up the place and really investing in a good bartender and make drinks WORTH 10 euros because this place has potential...

Also the location was TINY and nobody could barely move because the doorman just let everyone in even though nobody could breathe. The worst of it all was how incredibly rude the staff was. My friends and I were dancing and minding our own business but out of the blue a staff member came to us and told us we had to move. When we asked politely why we had to move, the guy got really mad and started yelling at us and picking fights with our male friends, and then other staff members came from nowhere and joined in picking a fight... without even knowing what was going on... it was all just very bizarre and I don't know why the staff was so rude and started yelling/fighting when we asked politely why we had to move from the corner we were dancing in. I understand that there are some privately reserved areas (which by the way are TINY) but I know for sure we weren't in that area. If you're in florence do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. For example, we went to 'Space Club' the second night and LOVED it.

Its tiny, packed with people, it gets hot (VERY HOT in the summer), indoor ventilation doesn't exist, some people smoke, the foosball table is sticky and in terrible condition, dance floor is full of sweaty people and theres no place to move - blob is actually a pretty gross place and I happen to come here very often. It has an underground vibe even though many people know about it and it's definitely a no brainer when you wanna keep partying after all the other bars are closed. If you are equipped with a female reproductory system entrance is free. If you don't you may have to pay cover charge unless the doorman is having a merry night. There's a stripper pole, but there are no strippers - why would you need them when there's an army of exchange students practicing for free? :p

Then out of nowhere, one of them put me in a choke hold while the other three punched me and dragged me out of the club. Afterwards, when I tried to walk back in, I was denied entry and was told that they were actually the bouncers of the club. I did absolutely nothing to provoke getting attacked by them and they didn't tell even bother telling me that they were bouncers, rather than other club-goers. The dance floor is a good size and the lighting is nice, but that sticky floor puts a damper on things. While we were dancing every guy there was trying to grab at us and I turned around to some dude just dancing and holding a handful of my hair. Talk about creepy. At one point, a girl for some reason pushed my friend into a wall and she hurt her wrist. This is probably ubiquitous behavior at clubs, but I don't really know. It shocked me for sure. The music was a solid 3/10. Again, the worst and most astonishing part of this whole night was my phone. A bouncer was watching my coat, and my phone was still stolen out of it. A little disappointing. The best thing flo has going for it is the atmosphere: it's gorgeous and it's all outside. I would say the attire is trendy. Don't need to wear any skimpy bodycon here.
