I am never closer to super villain status than the moments I evil giggle at having scooped a FTR…read more(First To Review). It amuses me how many florists are in and around Stockbridge. You've got Banks, White Petal (in the Artisan Roast) and the Botanic Gardens all within a hop skip and a jump of one another. Not to mention Raeburn Wines & the grocery stores that that sell fresh flowers. Stockbridge folk like their flowers. I know this, as it's my hood and true to my claim - i've been to every one of them on the on-going quest of cat proof greenery. Here's the short story: I have cats. They eat plants. I still want plants in the house. Dilemma. (I told you it was short.) I like Banks for the fact that they always have decently priced potted flowers that hold up well in my outdoor planter. I can always find something to brighten the doorway for under £4 but the service keeps it from being a regular stop. It's not that it's unpleasant... the service is simply... uninterested. The folks behind the counter try and answer your questions in as few syllables as possible. When I last asked about cat proof plants, I received a shrug. Informative. I've been in three times poking around, even looking into the cut flowers and i've never been asked if I need help. So though i'll continue to swing by every once and awhile to grab some new flowers for the window boxes, i'd choose elsewhere for more complicated orders.

Not so sure what previous reviewer meant about cats and plants but plenty of information online and…read morecurrently there is only one florist in Stockbridge although, of course, nowadays one can buy flowers from Supermarkets, independent Grocers and Petrol Stations anywhere. Not the same though! Banks normally has a nice variety of fresh flowers and their Halloween window was positively spectacular. Prices are more or less the same as everywhere else and they often have discounted bunches which I think it is a clever way to cut losses whilst customer still gets the pleasure of beautiful and affordable cut flowers for a few days at least.

I noticed they're also started selling clothes - some of them vintage! - on one rail outside the shop and another inside. There's a great selection of candles, cards and other lovely things that would make an excellent gift or treat for yourself. There's an abundance of gift shops to to choose from in the area and, whilst this isn't my first choice, I really enjoy popping in as its a pleasant wee shop to browse and staff always say hello and offer help if you need it. I also like having a peek in their ever-changing window displays!

What a sweet little shop!…read more This place caught my eye a few weeks ago, when I stopped dead in my tracks and found myself wandering in to utter: "How much is that Dalek in the window?!" I'm such an adult. The Dalek turned out to be the coolest bubble bath that ever there was and was a sweet price of £7.50. Unfortunately, I hate baths and not even the super cute container could justify my purchase. So I left, knowing that soon, the universe would give me the necessary excuse to buy nerd soap. Enter #SocialMediaSanta. If you're not familiar, this is a very nifty initiative run by Shelter Scotland to give families that otherwise could not afford them, presents for the holiday season. They ask for unwrapped toys and then distribute them throughout the city. You know what is an unwrapped toy? DALEK BUBBLE BATH! Yes, just a week after my window love fest, I found myself gleefully skipping back to this spot to take a Dalek to a nerdy kid in need. Along the way, I realized they stock a ton of other amazing toys - from neat craft kits (paint your own trucks!) to super cute baby bath gloves (the hungry caterpillar! nostalgia bonus!) and everything in between. What started as a one toy purchase turned into fifteen and I swear, I had more fun buying them then the kids who will soon receive them. This place gets a little bonus love from me because the lovely lady behind the till threw in some soap and lotions (for Moms!) free of charge to pay it forward to the folks in Edinburgh. I am the Evil Auntie to two little ones back home, so I dare say i'll be popping back here again to find them unique toys and nerdy giftables, even if it'll cost me a bomb to get them back across the point. But if you have local little ones (or ones on the way!), you should definitely poke your head in here. The prices might be a bit higher then your big box options but the cool factor is worth the price tag.

As we were marrying from out of the country, the ease with which we were able to get our florals chosen and delivered was invaluable. They are fairly priced, organized and have a real eye for color and texture. For the color schemes, we chose an "Islay" bridal bouquet and "Iona" buttonholes, combs and bridespeople bouquets. Thank you for helping our wedding day turn out so perfectly! (Photos by Meggy Mac Photography)

I love that they are a local small business and every time I see a post from them I immediately get "heart eyes." I wish I could visit their shop in person because it looks breathtaking, and I'd also love to take some of their beginning classes in floristry. Fiona was our florist for our wedding, and I will mostly just let the photos of her work speak for themselves. Absolutely breathtaking. I requested a colorful bouquet with a lot of texture, scottish thistle boutonnieres, lantern centerpieces, and a beautiful flower shop style setting for our ceremony. Fiona delivered and then some. I think flowers in the UK are just better and of more variety than in the US, and the eye for floral artistry is just infinitely better. I showed Fiona a photo of a tropical bouquet (my original wedding was tropical.. it's a long story) that was my dream bouquet. It had a lot of color and some beautiful trailing ribbons. Fiona ordered the most amazing hand-dyed silk ribbons from Heirloom Silk Ribbons.. they added such a wonderful boho touch to my bouquet, and made the bouquet just that much more special. I personally have an obsession with attention to detail, and Fiona's attention to detail was just so incredible. To top it off, there was a mishap with the original geometric terrariums she had planned to use for my centerpiece, and while I was completely fine with the suggested changes, she went over the top and made even larger, more extravagant centerpieces for me to make up for it. Oh my gosh.. they were just so stunning. I originally was going to go minimal on the flowers because they can be so expensive, but I found even these high end florals from Narcissus to be so affordable and absolutely worth every penny. My husband was skeptical, as a man who doesn't fully understand the draw of flowers.. but when he saw what Narcissus created for us, he knew that every detail and every penny was absolutely worth it and then some. I think in the US, flowers such as these would have been 2 or 3 times the price, and would have come along with some pretty rude service. I cannot recommend Narcissus flowers highly enough. Stunning is the best word I can use to describe Narcissus. They are truly a one-of-a-kind shop, and when I see what they are posting it instantly makes me feel good. That's what flowers should be- they of course don't last forever, but that feeling they give you when you are admiring their beauty is absolutely worth it. Flowers, especially of this high caliber, just bring pure joy and beauty.
