You can't say anything bad about community radio…read more WAPJ is supported entirely by member donations and sponsors, and run entirely by volunteers. To claim their programming is eclectic is an understatement, and there are many niche categories of music (Celtic, polka, reggae) that can't be found on other stations in the area. The public affairs shows are provocative and entertaining. WAPJ also gives the Lions Clubs a show on Monday nights, Lions Around Connecticut, and I've been lucky to be a guest on the show occasionally. WAPJ covers a large area, including my town of Woodbury where radio reception is spotty, at best. If you're tired of Top 40 and the 300 song format of most commercial stations, WAPJ is a great change for your ears.

The ARRL is an amateur radio hobby organization that represents all amateur radio hobbyists. I've…read morebeen an Annual Member since '05, and Life Member since '23. They publish magazines, annual handbooks, textbooks, test materials and educational materials. They also do a lot of lobbying and moving and shaking with the FCC. They also sell a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff on the website. Lots of controversy with the CEO, and raising annual dues along with charging extra for the printed copy of the magazine. It is a layered organization with a lot of positions and titles, just like the Freemasons... is it all really needed? The main magazine QST is ok, I'd give it a 2 out of 5 stars. Lots of pseudo-technical articles written by folks who are not necessarily educated electrical engineers, but they hold an amateur license; QST has product reviews and obituaries with lots and lots of advertising. If you've read one QST, you've read them all. The League has their main office down in Newington, Connecticut. I've been twice, back in '06 and '14. They have a little display in the lobby, before the Centennial in '14 they'd give you tours. Now they don't. There is a brick building where you can operate ham radio. Technology, consumerism, and lack of interest has turned ham radio into an obsolete and dying hobby. That said, if it's your hobby, a trip to The League is a place to see... once. BT AR DE ####

The American Radio Releay League, ARRL, is the national membership association for Amateur Radio operators. It is a not-for-profit organization which promotes interest in Amateur Radio communications and experimentation, represents US radio amateurs in legislative matters, and maintains fraternalism and a high standard of conduct among Amateur Radio operators. And now onto my review... I've had limited contact with the ARRL. Most of the times I contacted them were about joining or renewing my membership. I will say that this organization has a lot of excellent people working for them. I have always had excellent customer service and very polite and helpful service. I would recommend this organization as well as this organization's books to anyone who is interested in becoming an Amateur Radio Operator, or is an Amateur Radio Operator.

The best-known sports analyst on ESPN is Stephen-A Smith, which is a pity…read more Smith's ego is as high as Mount Everest, and though he often has other sports analysts on his various shows, he almost never allows them to speak. Virtually every Stephen-A Smith telecast is a monologue, even with experts and ex-players on the show presumably invited to talk. Not as well known, but at least as difficult to watch as Smith, is Tony Kornheiser, who shares time on the 5-times weekly Pardon the Interruption with the benignly knowledgeable Mike Wilbon. Kornheiser is just plain awful, and difficult to watch because of his mannerisms, such as putting on then taking off his eyeglasses. In my view, the best analysts include Kendrick Perkins on the NBA and Marcus Spears, Ryan Clark, and Domonique Foxworth on the NFL.
