When you travel north along the main highway out of Otaki, at the next town this cafe (a converted chapel) on the left will be one of the first you see. It has a big red sign. You can turn in and park off-road, there's plenty of room. If anyone has access or mobility issues, you can drop them at the short path up to the font door. The signs are very welcoming. Inside, you know you're in a church - the rimu timber-work is marvellous. You will find a cornucopia of crafts for sale, with a cafe at the rear. The interior is homely and so is the menu. Old fashioned "tucker" is on offer and it's good. We enjoyed the soup (Ham and Vegetable ... "just like your grandmother used to make"), with some made-to-order toasted and fresh sandwiches. There's lots of cakes and slices, just like Mum's kitchen too. It's very nice indeed. I wouldn't rave over the coffee, but it's okay. The service is good and the people here are lovely. I'd come again, no problems. Thank you. read more
