Peter's Brauhaus is often described as a beer hall, but it is so much more than that. Once we entered, we were ushered into the bar, so that we could drink a local beer while we waited for a table. This gave us time to also take in the rustic wood construction of the interior, and enjoy the delicious aromas wafting from the kitchen. Seating is family style, but they also have a few tables for two. The food is hearty traditional German fare, you won't need a second meal that day. This is certainly a must do in Koln, to have an authentic meal in a historic brauhaus.

We decided to sit outside, but because it started to drizzle, we went inside. We paid for our drinks outside and brought them in with us. The waiter was not friendly. Asked if we had paid for our drinks, I said we paid outside. I'm not sure if he believed me. When he finally came to take our drinks outside order, he seemed irritated with us. We got our drinks and order our meals. Our meals arrived very quickly and everything was wonderful. However, upon closing our bill, the waiter got very angry with me saying something about good service and no tip. We are literally in Germany where you don't tip. It's a cool place to see, but I'm not sure I would go back.

I have no clue how the chef and her sister accommodate 60+ guests from such a small kitchen and send out plates of amazing food night after night. This place is amazing, and feels like you're eating in grandma's kitchen. Seating inside and outside, right in the heart of Köln, this is a very cool place.

Location: 5/5 The location is super convenient -- literally a 1-minute walk from the Marriott Hotel and just a few minutes from the main train station. If you're staying nearby and getting tired of German food, definitely give this place a try! Food: 4/5 The seafood sundubu (seafood spicy soft tofu soup) really hit the spot! It was flavorful and comforting, with just the right amount of spice -- not overly spicy at all, so don't let the word "spicy" scare you. The spicy squid and pork belly were also really nice. Drinks: 4.5/5 I loved that they offer Korean drinks as well as two local draft beers. A perfect combination! Service: 4/5 The servers were friendly and welcoming, and everyone we interacted with spoke English, which made things very easy. Price: 4/5 Very reasonable for Cologne -- less than €30 per person, including food and drinks. We had an especially exhausting day because our luggage was lost by the airline, so we had to make a quick trip to the train station to grab some essentials. Thankfully, both suitcases were eventually found, but they won't be delivered until tomorrow. This Korean comfort food was exactly what we needed to end the day! Overall, definitely recommend this spot if you're visiting Cologne, especially if you're staying near the Marriott and want a break from German food.

The menu has a great selection and the portion sizes are very generous. Prices are very reasonable too. The atmosphere is that of a casual pub. The service was super friendly and they spoke great English. Our server was super helpful and sweet. Good food comes out and freshly prepared within about 10-15 minutes of ordering. To share with the table, we ordered the Gebackener Camembert. This consisted of fresh deep-fried breaded Camembert cheese accompanied by fresh parsley, jellied cranberries, pumpnickel bread, and butter. This was delicious as the outside was breaded just right and the inside was luscious with soft, gooey cheese. The jellied cranberries and pumpernickel bread accompanied the pungent cheese very well. This only came with one slice of bread, but our server brought out additional bread (not pumpernickel, but even better!). For my plate, I ordered Ochsenbrust which consisted of brisket of beef, with beetroot, and boiled potatoes. This was a hearty meal with a decent amount of tender brisket covered in a creamy horseradish sauce. However the boiled potatoes might have been my favorite part of this meal. I have never had boiled potatoes cooked that well with that amount of flavor. I really enjoyed this meal as it was unique and like nothing I'd had before. Overall, I enjoyed my first authentic German meal here! The ambiance was perfect as it was both inviting and casual. Service was very pleasant and helpful. The food was great, it was just a lot.
