Super easy and I didn't even need to purchase a shopping bag since it was just across the street. Not exactly tidy and definitely overstocked but they have the full range of stuff. Dairy, deli, cleaning supplies, potato chips, personal care items, soda, bottled water, ice cream, condiments and pretty much anything you might need for snacks or to fill your kitchen. The person ringing up groceries didn't speak English but that wasn't a problem. I had a €20 note in hand for my purchase that wasn't going to be more than €7. Simple enough. Mmmmm, you might want to look elsewhere for fresh or unpackaged options. Sometimes these places are super clean and well planned out, other times not so much. But I was bummed yesterday when…read moreI went and they no longer had Aunt Jemima so I decided to try the "Mississippi Belle" brand. I'd never heard of or seen this brand in stores in the US before. This pancake mix is overly salty and doesn't taste like real pancakes, and the peanut butter has a lot of added sugar to it. This seems like a brand marketed with "American heritage" toward international markets but not actually common in the States. For peanut butter I'd suggest going with Adams which is classic and more natural.

Everything was well stocked and prices are clearly displayed. Because it's targeted for locals and not tourists, despite being in a rather touristy area, the young lady running the register did not speak English. Which is not really a problem, numbers are numbers and Euros are Euros. There are trolleys, baskets and they'll bag your groceries.

Little corner shops are surprisingly hard to come by your first few days in Madrid... I'm not sure if that was just a "me" thing, or if the particularly touristy spots I was wandering through just didn't boast many a corner shop but whatever way you toss it, it took me three days to actually find one within a block from the hotel. Like my previous corner shop find, this place is pretty much your run of the mill corner shop. It carries all the essentials needed for email binges & work catch ups in your hotel room - crisps, soda, water, ice cream. Unlike my previous find, this one is a tad more cheery to pop into. The gent behind the counter was friendly, the selection was a bit better and it felt less like something (or everything) was going to fall over and trap me under an avalanche of junk food. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the hours when I went in, so i'm not sure how late it's open, but it's definitely a good spot to run in during the day when you're pre-prepping for the night's shenanigans. Solid corner shop.
