We decided to visit the Falls today as it is only about a half hour from our current campground…read more You do have to have a state of Michigan recreation pass you can either buy an annual pass or just the day pass which we did which was $12 for out-of-state It is only about a quarter mile walk back through the woods, bring some bug spray and you'll get a decent view of the fall, but if you really want to get a little closer, you'll need to take the pretty long ramp way, which is wheelchair friendly to get all the way down to a huge viewing platform to get the picture that we took The path is all wide and paved, and even on a Thursday mid morning, it was pretty busy Today was a little marked by the fact that there is a lot of smoke and ash from the Canadian wild fires drifting over into the upper Peninsula, but we still were able to get a decent view Parking was free, although the lot is not very large so plan accordingly. There is also pretty limited cell phone service, from Verizon anyway, on the way out here so make sure you've got your maps downloaded. Clean restrooms are at the entrance to the trail as well

We were looking for an adventure with our new-ish kayaks. We fortuitously read a Michigan tourism magazine tucked into the Chicago Tribune; the magazine featured a story about kayaking in Les Cheneaux with Woods & Waters. It sounded great! Though we are comfortable on the water, we thought it would be good to have a guide in an area new to us -- and Tim was a perfect guide for our half-day paddle! We learned so much about this beautiful and interesting area, saw an eagle and its nest, did a quick mid-paddle hike to get an amazing view to go with our rock skipping and gained a few kayaking skill tips that will make us better kayakers. It certainly was a bonus that the water and weather cooperated -- water like glass and just enough sun. Tim - thanks for the advice to do the Narnia hike - that was our afternoon adventure! We ended our day at Les Cheneaux Distillers. The day couldn't have been better. We loved our paddle so much and felt comfortable with our newfound knowledge from Tim that we went back for a quick paddle the next morning. We wish we could have stayed on the water all day! Plus they have a big statue of Paul Bunyon and Babe. The gift store is total tourist kitch and junk but it's all part of the charm. It won't blow you away but the view was fantastic from the top. It's a short hike up some somewhat steep stairs, kids will be fine with it. Not handicap accessible. It will take maybe 15mins to get up. Only costs $1pp! There's a gift shop at the bottom that sells touristy items. Also large statues of bunyon and blue at the bottom. It's not going to fill your whole day but a nice rest stop adventure.

I would suggest visit the Mackinac fort then exit at the back to the arch. This is better after the fort because you already went to the elevation of the arch. So the climb is already done. For the sixth year in a row my family has rented skis from the Bahnhoff ski shop. Our experience…read moreis always excellent. The quality of equipment, the correct fitting and the wonderful service keeps bringing us back. This year we had a problem when on our second day of skiing. Our granddaughter hurt her arm late in the day to the extent that the ski patrol snowmobiled her down the hill and we ran her to Spectrum hospital. In the chaos of getting her down the hill and to the hospital we left some rental equipment at Nubs. Bahnhoffs only concern was with the health of my granddaughter, not with the rentals. They showed complete understanding and compassion for the situation. End result, we lost a helmet and set of poles. Their equipment was the least of Bahnhoff's concern. It was the most chaotic, stressful, dangerous thing we've done as a group. Do not do a rafting trip if you think you're going to have any time to enjoy the scenery, talk, or enjoy a family activity. The river was extra fast due to high water levels and there are constant obstacles to avoid. We are all lucky to have made it with only minor injuries. Way too many close calls. It was not just us that were not enjoying our time on the river. Every kayaker and tuber we encountered felt exactly the same way. Several said they'd been crying at times, it was so chaotic.

There are some great views of the bridge when you go underneath it. We also took a second to walk across part of the bridge, but honestly it was a little scary with how fast the cars were whipping by us up there! You can take a path down under the bridge and then even further down to the water - we didn't make it all the way but you'll definitely get your blood flowing doing this! Lots of steps and even though it was shady and not super hot, I was sweaty afterwards! This was a nice place to get out of the car and I'd stop here again on this drive.

This place used to be great, we've been coming here for ten years. Every year I get the same site…read morewhich is the only walk in site you can hang a hammock. It was perfect, until this year. I was told I wasn't allowed to have my hammock up and had to remove it. Since I couldn't use my hammock I couldn't use the site and asked for a refund No refund was given, they just cancelled it and returned 40 percent of what I paid. The ranger was rude and unhelpful. So frustrating to have a terrible experience after 10 years of enjoyment.
