This way, I could at least understand the movie and have some fun on my free time. At first, I went there to see specific movies. But then I began attending the Sneak-Previews a.k.a. surprise movies. Most of the time the surprise movie is a good one and not always a blockbuster movie, which in my opinion is good. The best thing about the sneak-previews is that many times I get to see and enjoy a movie that I would have never seen, if I had the choice. For me the sneak-previews had a strange side effect: I got hooked :D (in a good way). I find it very exciting not knowing the movie that is going to be shown. This is awesome: You buy the ticket, grab some snacks, take your seat, and just go with the flow and enjoy the ride! I would like to thank my Austrian friend who presented me this place.

As an Auslaenderin, I can't say that I enjoyed the 30 minutes of ads and such prior to the start of…read morethe film, but I'd imagine that it's standard fare as no one seemed too put out by them. Our seatmates chatted their way throughout, so I guess that's how that's handled! We loaded up on Beck's (they only seemed to carry 'big brand' brews) and rather un-warm sweet popcorn and hung out at a table in the fairly cool-looking bar/concession area before being allowed to enter the theater close to start time. The theater itself is lovely-looking with red, plush seats, and, interestingly, beverage carriers not at the end of seat arms, but rather a bit up off the ground in front of you. We sat and drank and looked toward the thick, deep-red curtain in front of us. I kept expecting an organist to pop up from the center of the stage and play us into the start of the show. If one is going to catch a (German language) flick in Munich, then one would do well to do so here. This place is a well-preserved gem from another era.

Ein schöner Saal, superbequeme Sitze (sehr wahrscheinlich bequemer als im echten Opernhaus), sehr gute Akustik. Die Weltklasse-Sänger ein Traum und auch die schauspielerische Leistung v. a. der Protagonistin Gilda (Lisette Oropesa) grandios. Endlich konnte man diese auch wirklich sehen, nicht wie im Opernhaus allenfalls mit einem Opernglas anpeilbar - was mit einer Gleitsichtbrille dann letztlich doch völlig unmöglich ist. Also im Grunde ein weit besseres Erlebnis als im Original - und das für 15 Euro, d.h. etwa ein Zehntel des Originalpreises und ohne verreisen zu müssen! Die Lage direkt an der S-Bahn ist ein weiterer Pluspunkt des Kinos. Großartig!

Another top spot in Innsbruck as they show films in English throughout the week. The other place…read morethat does also is the Metropol Cinema on the other side of town. The films they do show in English are either arty or mainstream big hits. The English versions are general yon around 7pm in the evening so there is time to visit the local Thai or Indian (see my other Innsbruck reviews) and then head over to the cinema. Particularly good if you are in Austria for a winter season and need to see that latest blockbuster or just get an English film fix. Prices are average and it's really easy to find just over the bridge from the old quarter of town. If you are a student studying in Innsbruck then you'll also get a discount.
