In my gut I know it is biased to give Kinnick a 5-star rating due to the glaring infrastructural issues with this stadium, but I just can't help myself. I can't overlook how magical it is to be an Iowa-native and walk into this roaring stadium on a Saturdays. The last time I came to a game was against Michigan State during Iowa's 2025-2026 campaign. Our guys should have stomped the yard against them and ended up winning on a field goal as time expired. Classic. Epic seats for that one as well. Kinnick, you're a gem. I've spent over a dozen seasons here. The electric victories, come from behind shockers and of course, heartbreaking losses. There's no place like Kinnick Stadium on College Game Day. A few tips- - Arrive Early-- while they now have metal detectors at entries which speeds things up, it does take 15 or so minutes to get to your seat. - There's no re-entry. - Cashless! Bring your credit card. - Digital Tickets. Be sure yours are loaded in your wallet on your cell phone. - Alcohol is served in the stadium. Two beers per person at a time. - Clear Totes Only. 12x12 limit. - Checkout the Nile Kinnick statue! Oh, and don't forget to Wave! Between the first and second quarter fans are asked to wave to the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital. Make the kiddos' and families' day a bit brighter-- they are fighting to get healthy each day for various reasons. Overall, there's not a ton of amazing things to do in Iowa. But attending a Hawkeye football game at Kinnick is indeed amazing and worth a trip. read more

I graduated from the University of Iowa in Spring 1978, which was probably the last time I attended a home game at Kinnick Stadium. The Iowa Hawkeyes were then coached by Bob Cummings and finished 5-6 (3-5 Big Ten). This was also a time that the University of Iowa Scottish Highlanders marched at half time, Kinnick Stadium was a smaller facility, game day seats were more than readily available, and the real estate competition between Iowa Sports and University Hospitals was perhaps less intense. I was also able to earn a few bucks in my service as an academic tutor for the Iowa Athletic Department. I was in town over the 2022 Homecoming Weekend as part of my volunteer Advisory Board gig for the Chemical Engineering Department. A professor gave me a ride to the Stadium, and quite frankly I was overwhelmed by the mass of people outside the stadium (before they let us all in) tailgating, souvenir shopping, and just wandering around. Although I had Lunch before arrival, I need to plan for one of these parties the next time. My inside look the Stadium was one of "coming home" and feeling great pride and excitement in being here at this completely redone facility. That started with my first look at the inside of Kinnick, taking my mid-level seat at the 43 yard-line, cheering the player entrance to "Back in Black", enjoying the video clips of various Iowa Sports, admiring the performances of the Iowa Marching Band (plus the Alumni unit), participating in the Children's Hospital Wave at the end of the 1st Quarter, and of course celebrating Iowa's victory vs. Northwestern. As I walked back to my car (parked at the "nearby" Hampton Inn), I felt happy and grateful for my Alumni experience. And I look forward to doing it again in 2023! read more

An historic stadium that should be bulldozed and replaced. I've been to every Big Ten stadium and this is worst - narrow seating, inadequate restrooms, aisles that a ballerina would trip and fall in. Hey Iowa, take a lead from Northwestern and replace this dump. read more

As a penn state fan and someone that's been to a lot of college stadiums this is one of my favorites. The place gets loud and the fans are into it. The fans are generally very friendly minus the few that every fan base has that put a bad name out there for their team. Plenty of food options as well as alcohol options. Bathrooms could deff use an upgrade but most college stadiums are the same way. read more

I caught the Ohio State game here in 2010. Was a fun time especially since my team won :) The stadium is huge, very big place that gets packed. I sat in the student section which was cool. Very nice stadium all around that turns black and gold once seats fill up. Tailgating is pretty good has many areas to go hangout at. Also they have food and music n front of the stadium. Getting into the stadium went fast, not always the case at some places. Line moved pretty fast. Parking isn't the best, I had to go in some dudes backyard and walk a distance. Leaving is a bit of a mess too. Wish this was better. The jumbo tron could be a little bigger, only had one big one from what I remember. Great place to catch a game,the fans are very loyal to the Hawkeyes. You should be able to score some tickets on secondary markets for a good price if you are in town. read more

Go Hawkeyes! What an excellent way to spend a Saturday, than watching the Iowa Hawkeyes beat Illinois Fighting Illini. 6-0 what a great start to the season. Kinnick is an excellent place to watch the game, we were able to see pretty much everything that was happening and what was happening was the Hawkeyes beating the Illini 29 to 20. What a perfect day for football, the weather was excellent and the atmosphere was fantastic. I loved all the tailgating before the game and we parked close by and had about a five minute walk to the game. read more

Most incredible experience! If you ever have a chance to catch a Hawkeye game, DO NOT pass it up!!! The sense of history and the excitement of the students and alumni will heighten your senses. The cold, crisp air will leave you feeling alert and exhilarated. The tempo of the band will beat in rhythm with the blood in your veins. And, all will culminate with the roaring of the crowd as the team swarms out of the tunnel and into the field. Just a few tips: rub Kinnick's helmet outside the main gate for luck; sit in the student section if you can because the energy is incredible, go on black and gold day because the stadium looks really cool; wear comfy shoes because they stand for the WHOLE game; and do your drinking beforehand because they have no beer here. Kinnick get a what what, kinnick get a what what. You've heard of the Chronicles of Riddick, well here are the Chronicles of Kinnick. If you are from Iowa, this might be your mecca, your holy grail. It's huge, it's pleasing, it's loud, it's thrilling, sort of like spending a night with me. Oh wait. Sorry. TMI. First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - I've only ever been inside this stadium once, and it was one of the most intense college football experiences ever. The fans and the stadium workers were some of the friendliest I've ever met, but they were also insanely loud. Midwest-Loud, which is even louder than fans on either coast, and more like the South. They were plating against Notre Dame. Everyone was drunk and being in the student section made it twice as amazing. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** So like... it's bright yellow, and I love yellow (sorry, I just do). And that's a huge plus. And it's got one of the craziest atmospheres in college sports when a whopping 70k people squeeze in here. Speaking of squeezing in. But anyway. Iowa City, IA is basically built around this thing, it's such a big attraction for the whole state. The Hawkeyes play here and it opened in 1929. The visitors locker room is painted pink. That's kind of sexy. However Hayden Fry, who ordered it, is a sexist: "It's a passive color, and we hoped it would put our opponents in a passive mood. Also, pink is often found in girls' bedrooms, and because of that some consider it a sissy color." read more

This isn't a review of the stadium as much as it is of the people who work there. Here is the scene: at a packed Hawkeyes football game on a blazing hot Saturday afternoon. My daughter forgot to stay hydrated and had a case of heat prostration and fainted. The cops and medical staff showed up within a minute (I don't even know how they knew we needed them) and got her to a cooling station asap. They were so helpful and kind. We missed the rest of the game but without their help it could have gone much worse. Big shout out to Univ of Iowa and Iowa City public servants. read more

A lifelong Iowa Hawkeye fan. I made my first ever trip to Kinnick Stadium. As I crossed this off my bucket list. You need to arrive early. Otherwise it will take forever to get to your seat. And if you want to avoid the post game traffic. Leave in the middle of the fourth quarter or ninety minutes after the game is over. Better yet take a bus trip there. It's a great atmosphere with the fans really into the game. Waving to the children at the hospital after the first quarter. Is something very special! But with the long restroom lines. Plus the long lines to the concessions. For which all of the food and beverages are extremely expensive! And the terrible traffic as I mentioned. I prefer to watch the football game from the comfort of my home. Where I get the best view of every play. read more

BIL and I ventured out for a while after the Iowa Hawkeyes sadly got served. Driving around town I was taking in the sights then BIL brought to my attention that right in front of us was the fabled Kinnick Stadium. I about lost it, literally. It had been described to me over the many years by those who experienced it but I didn't realize it's massiveness and all around beauty! I got out of the car like a little boy who thought he saw Santa Clause and ran up to the gate to see the inside. I then walked over to what looked like a faculty parking lot and took in the glorious main entrance. It's just like I've seen on TV and then it hit me why many Iowans love this place so much. The 85 year old stadium has a lot of history and character with brick construction, arched entryways and pink visitor's locker room. There is little room on the sidelines so the fans are very close to the players making it a loud venue for it's size. Hawk fans have been quite loyal filling the stadium to 70K+ capacity for almost every home game. It's a classic college football venue and a good place to tailgate and watch a game. The concession vendor, Aramark, really sucks serving sub quality food at overly inflated prices even for stadiums. That knocks down the experience by a star. They do allow you to enter the stadium with a bottle of unopened water which is pretty cool. read more

I have been to numerous college venues. No need to return to Iowa City and Kinnick Stadium. Decent tailgating. Stadium is nothing special as it is difficult to get in and our of the stadium. Stadium and campus security is awful. If you are a visiting fan, be prepared to be harassed by Stadium security. I was not personally but witnessed numerous events take place. I ended up filling a complaint with campus security. Received a weak unprofessional response. read more

I'm a huge Hawkeye fan. Drove an hour and a half to the game with my wife and son. Our FIRST Hawkeye game. Great start, great game, great atmosphere. We were even on TV participating in our first 'Wave'! Rain didn't diminish us, we were having a blast. But then while waiting out the SECOND weather delay, 10-15+ CSC Event Staff, including 2 wearing blue 'superiors' shirts, came through and told everyone in our area that the game was called, Iowa won, and everyone had to leave! Ok, I can understand that. But after driving the hour and a half back home in severe storms I was a little pissed to find out it WASN'T canceled, they restarted, actually had a THIRD delay, and didn't finish until almost 2am!! Loved our game experience, but feel robbed of the rest of the 'game' by ill-informed staff! Very unprofessional, and after reading through numerous Hawkeye Facebook pages, I wasn't the only one that was left disappointed by these ppl! read more

What a great classic, college football stadium. Not a huge selection of food compared to what is offered at "The Bank"; however you also don't have the high prices. Great tailgating around the stadium. Plus Hawk fans are SO much nicer to visiting teams than Badger fans. Love the energy that the fans bring to the stadium...plus their band plays current, "fun" songs Also love that there aren't lights, so the game is always during the day when the temps are warmer read more

We had our rehearsal dinner in the Press Box. It was a great setting that our guests enjoyed. The only negative is the $250/hour (with minimum of 5 hours required) to rent the space. The food was catered through the University, and was good. Everyone we worked with was really nice. We also were able to use the tvs in the space for free to have a continuous slide show run of photos. Parking in the lot by it is free after 4:30pm. read more

There isn't a better football watching experience in Iowa than at Kinnick Stadium. My friend and I went to watch the Iowa vs Nebraska game a few weeks ago and we both had a blast well me more than him because he is A Nebraska fan. My only knock on Kinnick is trying to access a bathroom people were going in and out the exits and it was just a huge frustration. Stadium food and drinks are what you expect. read more

Greatest and most historic college football venue in the country. Great atmosphere in and around the stadiums on college football Saturdays. Great fans who are very passionate and good with opposing fans. Brand new video board and sound system which contends for one of the largest screens in the country. Go Hawks!!!! read more
