Although classified in the BBH guide as a backpacker hostel, this accomodation gives you some extras you would not even expect from much pricier alternatives. This really is the place to go if you want to get away from it all for a while. Placed between the mountains of the Alps and offering a great lake view (especially from the free(!) hot tub on the roof of the main building) it is hard to find a more scenic spot to sleep in NZ (most rooms have lake view). Though quite remote it still offers numerous activities: Cayaking, Biking, Horse riding, to name only a few. A stop over can be easily combined with the greenstone, caples or routeburn track. If you go there, you should definitely enjoy the luxury of heaving an excellent english breakfast in the small restaurant. read more
