ISL International School of Languages - Adult Spanish class.

At the time of this review, I have completed one language session and just started another session…read more(Advanced Spanish). Overall, I am having great experience with ISL. The pricing for an 8-week course (2hr session) seems pretty reasonable compared to other language schools - it's not the cheapest, but it's not super expensive. I really appreciated the school's administrator's quick responses to all of my questions prior to registering for my course. The school's website provides VERY detailed information about registering for courses, refunds, time commitments, etc. My professor (Rossy) is amazing and very patient in helping her class reach its language goals. LOL, I think she has a worksheet/example for EVERY possible linguistic situation. I do appreciate the small class size, which gives all students a chance to have a more personal experience. Actually, I was quite shocked (in a good way) that a couple other students have been working with Rossy for over five years. Although most of the courses are virtual (I could be wrong about this), I wish that there were some in-person courses/options especially for the weekend sessions. However, I understand that times are changing, and we as a society are moving to a more virtual world. Perhaps, this is outside of ISL's responsibility, but I wouldn't mind the incorporation of at least one in-person event/experience within course. However, I guess arranging an in-person event/excursion could be left to the discretion of the the course's professor and/or the students. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend ISL.

I just finished my first course with Spanish Blackbelt and can't wait to signup for my next course!…read more I have been taking Spanish classes off and on since high school and this one has by far been the most effective. I have improved much more in 8 weeks with Spanish Blackbelt than in a semester at a junior college course. The small group means each student will get a lot of attention and nobody will be left behind. My tutor, Eduardo, was excellent. I highly recommend this program.

There is an online placement quiz that helps you select which class is appropriate for you. Here is what I really like about Spanish Blackbelt: The classes are casual; we meet at the local Starbuck's that is very close to my house. The class is small; there are only two of us. There is homework and it can be challenging. There is a strong focus on grammar and spelling. It can be daunting at times, but it is all online and it is very well organized with lots of visual aids. The teacher, Alejandro, is great. He is charming and warm and very encouraging. We speak only Spanish during the class and I've never been made to feel awkward about my rather clumsy skills. I'm only half-way through the Yellow level and have decided to continue to the next level. I truly wish I could wake up one morning and simply know how to speak Spanish. But, I think Spanish Blackbelt might be the next best way to become a Spanish speaker.

Al Bayt Al Arabi - Arabic for Business and Professional Purposes

There is not a better Arabic language tutoring school in the DC area than Al Bayt Al Arabi. I…read morespent over nine months at Al Bayt al Arabi (five hours a day, Monday through Friday), and used their methods to move from the 1+ to the 3 level on the standard U.S. Government language assessment exam. Another student I overlapped with during this time had a nearly identical experience. I have previously studied Arabic full-time at the Foreign Service Institute and two other private language school in DC, and nowhere other than Al Bayt Al Arabi did I find instructors who worked harder than students (if you have any experience in full-time language training, you know how crazy that statement is). The two primary instructors know how provide real-world Arabic study that is still directly applicable to the quirks of government language assessment tests...no easy feat. The primary instructor at Al Bayt Al Arabi has spent decades as an Arabic instructor for both the U.S. Government and private institutions, and he takes those years of experience to (incredibly) create customized audio and visual study material for the student based on his or her level and specific needs and goals. This material then becomes available for independent study outside of class or for use while commuting to class. I've never even heard of another Arabic instructor in the DC area taking the time to do that. The instructors are flexible with study hours and are willing to utilize any mix of in-person or Skype sessions (so you can continue to have class while travelling). I was initially wary of the commute to class, but the drive for me was worth the quality of instruction (plus the aforementioned audio material created for study during the commute). Learning a language like Arabic is a daunting undertaking that you will likely only do once in your life. If you're willing to make the investment, you might as well do it right with instructors like those at Al Bayt Al Arabi. I began at Al Bayt Al Arabi with some Arabic language experience and experience in the Arab world, so I can't speak for a student starting from zero, but I know that diplomatic, corporate, and media headquarters across the Arab world are stocked with success stories from the two primary instructors at Al Bayt Al Arabi...everywhere I go in the professional Arab world I keep running into people that have studied Arabic under these instructors.

If you want to see yourself improve multiple levels on a language test this is the place to go. If you you want to practice speaking and enjoy your time learning around wonderful people this is the place to go. Al Bayt Al Arabi also has an Arabic school in Tunis, so there are many options for study through them as well. They are flexible with your schedule and really care about their students and providing a quality education.

She gives her best in return. I visited Japan after studying for about a year. It was thrilling to be able to read signs and say a sentence and be understood. His joy of learning is genuine and intrinsic - I attribute this to Evergreen. I am confident that he will carry this love and curiosity for discovering new things throughout his life. Evergreen also has a robust art and music program. The Montessori implementation at Evergreen is unmatched in this part of Montgomery County. Evergreen School is truly a gem. You should definitely put it on your list of schools to visit when considering preschools, kindergarten and/or elementary schools.
