We had a great stay. Friendly staff, clean and a great change from the big chain hotels. Would definitely recommend!

My buddy and I found this on a motorcycle ride. Looking for a none chain place to stay. We met Chi the manager upon inquiring about rooms. After a little work she found a couple. (Covid making things challenging). Then she gave us a tour of the place and a history lesson of the area. Each room had its own character. The rooms were nice.. if you only want high end five star hotels. Look elsewhere. If you want character, clean comfortable beds, great AC.. lots of charm this is the place. If you are a rail fan. You'll love it .

Such a wonderful place for the train enthusiasts. We had room 204 that overlooked the train tracks and the Mississippi River two beds and a sofa. With a kitchen right down the hall to be able to cook whatever you wanted to if you wanted to. The staff was amazing, and we were able to bring our dog along which made the trip even better. Chewy the Local dog is adorable and loves to meet other dogs. Trains went by all day and night and I was worried about the noise but it wasn't a problem at all they had a noise canceling machine in the room and after discovering everything all day we were exhausted anyways. It's a must stop for anyone that loves to watch trains.

This is our first time in Iowa and this inn is absolutely amazing! It is very quaint with a bed & breakfast feel but at a reasonable price. Our room was spacious with a massive wood carved four poster queen bed. The room has two butter soft leather chairs with a matching ottoman, along with a fabric sofa that pulls out into a bed. The building was constructed in the 1860's, with plenty of character and charm. Located directly across from the Mississippi River, it is in the heart of old town with a view of Fort Madison. Too bad we're only here for one night! We'd love to explore the area. Maybe we'll come back again.

This place is AWESOME!!! This hotel is in an older building and has been remodeled almost perfectly. It has a feel of going back in time to the early 1900's. The lobby is beautiful. As for the rooms - each room has a unique name and is decorated a little different. I know that because the rooms that are not occupied they leave the doors open for guests to take a peek. The staff (I believe the woman also owns it) was very accommodating and friendly. They have a parlor for sitting with a grand piano and a computer for internet access. In the morning they serve breakfast. The location is great too being right across the street from Fort Madison near the river and only a short walk to the downtown shopping area. The location is a blessing and a curse. The railroad goes by just across the street and it is a very popular route. In addition, train horns sound all night. After a couple nights you probably get use to it but if only for one night it's annoying. The beauty of the hotel makes up for it but without trains it would be perfect.

We stayed at the Kingsley Inn over the Fourth of July this year. For me, being in a midwestern town over that holiday is special. The Mississippi River, the parks with bandstands and bunting, the old railroad depots add to the charm. This was our second visit to the Kingsley Inn. We have kept-up with the innkeeper, Chi Easton, since we last stayed there two years ago. It is full of what you look for in a place with midwestern, small town, charm. The rooms are comfortable, clean and Victorian. The Mississippi River is out your window. The staff, including Chi, Bonnie and Cass are outstanding. If you love train watching, river watching or hanging in a Mississippi River town with tons of history, I recommend this place. Fort Madison is a hidden treasure and a great base if you are looking to explore Nauvoo, or the Great River area.

Very well thought out and operated budget hotel. There's a welcoming, good-sized lobby with TV and…read morecomfortable seating that doubles as a breakfast area. Breakfast was as expected for this type of hotel - yogurt, sausage patties, egg squares that looked pre-made. Staff are friendly and professional. My room was super clean with better than average comfy king bed, good quality linens, fridge, microwave, and large flat screen. The bathroom was spotless and had an exhaust fan. The hotel also offers a washing machine and dryer and vending machines for guests. Nice useful touches.

I really struggled between 3 and 4 stars and here's why:…read more Pros: -VERY new and clean -Spacious, modern rooms -Comfortable beds -Light breakfast available every morning -Water and coffee available all day -Washer & dryer available for use (I think they each cost $1) -Small fitness room Cons: -No automatic doors at entry made it hard to push 2 doors open with large suitcases (how would someone in a wheelchair manage to get in?) -No water bottles available for purchase in vending machine -No air/ventilation in fitness room (I was dying!) -Not enough parking -See below... As I mentioned, this hotel is very new however it's also very obvious they wanted to get it up and running in a hurry. I can't speak about all of the rooms, but a few things were definitely not right in our room. When we closed our room door, it seemed that the door and door frame were somehow not aligned correctly. The dead bolt lock and the swing lock were completely ineffective. Same goes for the bathroom door. You had to pull it with all of your strength to get it to (kind of) shut. I didn't even attempt locking it as you could see it wasn't aligned with the frame. The shower rod had clearly been installed in one place and then re-installed as there were still holes with wall anchors visible and sawdust everywhere from where they had drilled. The shower curtain wasn't long enough and water would splash out under it and all over the floor (even if you pointed the shower head away). The shower itself was strange and I kept wondering if it was actually meant to be wheelchair accessible since there were two seats but since the beds were SO HIGH we didn't think it could be possible that our room was wheelchair friendly. It's nice that the shower/toilet are separate from the sink however there was no towel ring/rack in the sink area. I also found the configuration of the room to be a bit odd. In order to see the TV, you had to sit on the sofa. If you were in bed, you couldn't see it at all. It would make more sense to swap the positions of the sofa and TV. I think we had a total of 4 lamps in our room which was overkill. If anything it amused me so I can't really complain. The parking situation was only bad if you returned to the hotel at a late hour. One night there was no parking and we had to park next door and walk through a grassy area. Would have been nice if there was a path of some sort to walk on. I noticed that many parking spots were taken by large trucks and also things that would typically be hitched to the back of a truck (like a boat). If the hotel enforced a 1-spot per room rule that would probably help manage the situation better. Aside from the room and parking I thought the staff was friendly. When we arrived to check in I was surprised the young woman did not check my ID to verify it against the name on the reservation. In addition, she immediately asked for my credit card and charged the FULL amount of our 3-night stay rather than waiting until we checked out which is actually not an acceptable practice. All in all, although not major, they have some kinks to work out. Would I stay here again? Yes. It was pleasant enough that I would return. Their rate was reasonable for the room we received but should the rate go up by a lot, I might reconsider.
