Most tables were reserved for folks who wanted bottle service, which we did not. They agreed to give us a spot in the corner without us purchasing a bottle. We ordered a round of drinks. Mine - the Aviation or something similar - was so bad that I only had a few sips. The venue for more crowded and much louder as the night went on. Definitely a night club vibe, which can be fun but didn't match our mood (we were looking for more of a cocktail lounge). It took a looong time to get our check.

The music was so loud I couldn't have a conversation with the person I was with, and we were going to have to take out a small personal loan to drink there, so we left. The business was really busy with a lively group of customers, so someone can clearly afford it and doesn't mind the nightclub atmosphere; it just wasn't for me. No issues with the service, we were immediately attended to and offered a menu.

Games are in English, the crowd is all travelers and expats, and when it is packed the energy is unreal. Apparently they do the Super Bowl and football too. Now the food. Eh. It is bar food. Burger was okay, hot dog okay, chicken sandwich was a no for me. You really are not coming here to eat. But the beers? Great. Four stars for a CDMX sports bar.

I'm going to go on record and say Maison Artemisia is the best bar on earth…read more Okay...you're right, I haven't experienced every bar (yet), so how would I know? You're just going to have to trust me! We were invited to Maison Artemisia by a couple of local friends who are in the cocktail industry. It was Halloween evening. Immediately upon entering the quiet (we came early and Mexico doesn't get jumping until late) beautiful upstairs bar to a wild greeting by two bartenders wearing the wildest Aztec animal-god masks (an outstanding start)! Round after round, drink after drink was a love song to cocktail greatness. Using an apothecary of fresh herbs, spices, tinctures, bitters, syrups, fire, smoke...these guys knocked out one sensational cocktail after another. Each one different...beautifully presented and balanced. Last round, we challenged the guys to whip up something off menu with varying flavor profiles picked by us and our guests (did I mention we were a few rounds in already?). These guys went to work like a couple of alchemist poets...composers...rap battlers. Working together, tasting, tweaking, these wizards of libations stirred, mixed, and shook together one of the best nights of cocktails of my entire life. All in one of the hippest, coziest, most vibrant lounges I've ever had the pleasure of spending an evening. For sure, I will frequent Maison Artemisia every time I'm in Mexico City DF. They are...and still remain...simply the best!

Bartender was awesome. They didn't have certain things on their menu (really wanted that Hibiki 17!), but she was able to recommend some other stuff. The Buchanan Master was surprisingly good. Their prices look too good to be true at first glance, but you gotta read the fine print - they do 1.5 oz pours instead of 2. Still a good time!

They have an…read moreextensive offering of craft beers brewed in Mexico as well as beers from Belgium and other locations. It's a nice option from the typical well known Mexican beers that are mainly lagers. I tried a sampler of 8 beers. The waiter asked me my preference in terms of hoppiness, then chose a selection of beers that included IPAs, pale ales, a hellesbock and stouts. All were very good to excellent. I noticed there was also a Mexican tripel that was not included on the sampler. It was the only bad beer I had, lacking any of the nice yeast flavor so typical of Belgian tripels. I happened to sit next to an American businessman who loves Belgian beers. He ordered me a Delirium Tremens, which is an excellent tripel that was much better then the Mexican-brewed tripel. I highly recommend Fiebre de Malta for a good exposure to some excellent Mexican craft beers.

The American Legion Post #2 in Mexico, established in 1920, has been located since the early 1960s in an ornate early 20th-century building at 25 Celaya, Condesa. After World War I, over 70,000 combat veterans moved to Mexico City to start a new life and escape the pains of war. Seventeen of these veterans decided to form the American Legion in Mexico City, as shown in the enclosed photo. Eventually, they settled on a building which used to be a brothel. Visit the second floor and terrace to see the rooms frequented by the Johns. It is not clear what connection these veterans had to the brothel, which was nicknamed "Lover's Roost."

Had a really good time dancing the night away here while in Mexico City, twice!…read more This is a review for the witching hours only; I did not have the food. I came here on a Thursday night and a Saturday night and both times I had an absolute blast dancing. My buddies and I took over the stage area and quickly (and inadvertently) sent people in the vicinity away. When you are uncoordinated as we are at cutting a rug, this is what tends to happen. On Thursday, the place started to wind down around 1 or 1:30, and on Saturday the place was popping until at least 2. This is a 4-star establishment because the DJ on Saturday could do no wrong on the ones and twos, the bartenders are quick to make drinks, and the people are all there to have a great time! Next time I'm in CDMX I'll stop by again, Pata Negra!
