Always a great experience here! They have a wide variety of popcorn and pork rinds, and they're all highly addictive. (Pro tip: you can mix the flavors to create a custom combo.) Located just outside of the Shenandoah National Park entrance, it's great for a post-hike snack, but I've taken the drive from Richmond just for the popcorn alone. Lead story: I have had friends who would scoff at the least mention of Pork Rinds. I'd then ask, "have you had fresh* pork rinds?" which generated replies from, "hell no," to "yes, the bag was in-date." It is unfortunate that so many people deny themselves fresh pork rinds based on such limited experience. "Aren't they just fried pig skin?" they offer condescendingly. I gather my Southern gumption mentioning that most love fried chicken, with its gobs of vaguely-seasoned flour and breadcrumbs, as a delicacy. So, after reconsideration, they agree to try these babies at KING'S GOURMET POPCORN, any good county fair, or summer festival. Pro tip: if you still have pork rinds 24+ hours old, they make great croutons! I live in Ohio so I had to have the items shipped to me. when I got my package, the skins and the popcorn tasted so fresh. it was almost like I was there in person. lol. the packaging was epic and the freshness left me speechless. Stopped by on my way towards the Blue Ridge Parkway for a little scenic drive to grab a quick snack. I'd heard of this place from several friends and co-workers before but had never thought of myself as a true fan of kettle corn. I was able to find a clear parking area in close proximity to the stand. I was greater at the window as soon as I walked up by a cheerful individual. I was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection of samples available as I wasn't sure what I really wanted. I ended up deciding on the caramel popcorn and let me tell you it was delicious! I originally anticipated the burnt taste of kettle corn from previous encounters but this popcorn did not at all resemble any of those previous encounters. The service was quick, and I was soon on my way. They did have a picnic table out front so if one has time they could sit and enjoy the view. I'll definitely be back to grab more popcorn in the near future. read more

MUST stop here on your way out of the mountains! This reminds me of a place that would have been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. If it hasn't, it should be! For my husband and me, it's tradition to stop here after a long hike (or even a drive along Skyline) to refuel before a long ride home. The popcorn kernels are massive and the seasonings are powerful. As tempting as it may be to get the chocolate-covered kernels, I encourage you to try to the white cheddar Cajun popcorn. We stop regularly at Kings Popcorn and liked it a lot. However, at my last stop, there was a new saleswoman (did they maybe change ownership?). She charged me $15 for a "small" bag of popcorn; about three times what it was a couple of weeks ago. King's Gourmet Popcorn is a mobile popcorn stand located in Afton, VA. When you take exit 99, it is literally at the foot of the Inn at Afton, in the parking lot (don't make your way up the hill to the rear parking lot of the Inn, but pass it and make a left into the larger lot; they're situated under the signs). The menu offers kettle corn (different flavors such as Chocolate Drizzle Caramel, Texas BBQ, Cajun White Cheddar, etc.), pork rinds, hot dogs (Nathan's Famous), and ice cream. I tried the Golden Cheddar, White Cheddar, and Spicy Cheddar mix, and even though a medium-size was purchased, it was still a very hefty bag! The popcorn itself was okay and coated quite well; I was expecting something with a sweet crispier taste, like the ones I've had in Williamsburg. The staff here are extremely friendly, and I have to give a shout-out to Ethan, since he was sooo hilarious! When we went, there was a fog warning on the mountain, so when it's raining and such, just keep in mind that the visibility is about 0%! If you're craving for some popcorn/snacks in the Shenandoah Valley area, check King's Gourmet out. After reading the reviews, I was really excited to try this place. I hate to report that my husband and I were quite disappointed. We ordered three minis - Chicago mix (caramel and cheddar), cajun white cheddar, and salted caramel. I love the Christmas tins of popcorn we usually get in the office at work. I was expecting this to be similar, but maybe slightly elevated in quality. I love to mix the caramel and cheddar together every year so it was a no brainer to get the Chicago mix. The caramel flavor wasn't strong enough to compete with the cheddar popcorn flavor so every bit tasted like cheddar with a hint of sweetness with the caramel popcorn. The cajun white cheddar was a little too spicy to enjoy and the salted caramel had a mild flavor. I didn't find the staff as "super friendly" as previously reported even though the gentleman of the two was friendly enough. read more

After reading a few of the other reviews, I feel as if I may have visited the stand on a off day. They were all out of chilli so I opted for a simple hot dog and pork rinds. My hotdog was flavorless. I was a little shocked by this as it was a Nathan's hotdog and not a cheap generic brand. The pork rinds were soft and the spicy flavor was perfect. Enough flavor with the right amount of heat. I will be back for the popcorn but will be bypassing the hotdogs. read more
