The food is delicious and if they decide to take a chance in the creativity ( should you mess with a good thing though?) they can hit a star easily. It is an amazing place with lots of nature and history around gourmet food. I don't understand how they've not got a michelin star yet. Maybe because of the historical old buildings where the restroom are seperate to the restaurant? Anyways, we held our wedding there back in summer 2018 and everything was perfect! Everything went smooth, and when you gonthere for dinner no matter who you ask they can definetly manage to pair good wine to the food, tall about the details like the wineyard - no doubt they live for this place. I like when cooking doesn't become about making it look fancy, but about the flavour and combinations. Sortebro Kro have nailed both very stunningly decorated food and extrodinary flavour. I love everything about it. Go there - it is worth it. I promise you. Thank you John and crew.

Instead, it was like expectantly arriving at the home of a new friend, a friend who lives in a beautiful, old-fashioned house in the country. We were shown into the smaller of the two home-like dining rooms (our hostess smoothly handling the potentially-tense moment when she discovered that she didn't have our reservation), informed of the Danish Christmas Feast buffet option and presented with the beer crate. The beer crate? Yes, not only does this fine dining restaurant consider beer to be a normal choice at the table, but also presents their selection in an old wooden crate brought tableside. [Nods of approval] We chose a large bottle of a Juleøl brewed for the restaurant by Danish microbrewers, Bøgedal. Then came a variety of freshly-baked breads served with dishes of butter and bacon fat. Since we'd chosen Sortebro Kro for a traditional Danish food experience, we all went for the Julebordet buffet. Dozens of delightful choices, from fried pickled herring to black pudding to boiled eggs to smoked fish and on and on and on . . . And after we'd stuffed ourselves, in glided our serene server with the main course of duck breast and pork belly with prunes. And then an amazing dessert of apple sorbet. And then some chocolates. *burp* We're saving a star for when we come back and order off the a la carte menu. We can't wait!

I'm always sceptical when it comes buffets, I don't like the concept of fresh food being laid to simmer at low temperature for ages. But this restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Mind you, we arrived just before noon. So the restaurant had just opened and everything freshly made. The buffet is varied but with a solid deep-fry theme. There is also a varied selection of sushi. Being the King of Cake, I wish there was more dessert. Over all, I'm impressed with quality and selection, especially considering the low price, 12 €.

Probably the best compliment that you can give a hotel. Especially the General Manager Peter Ibsen, the F&B chef Kim and the entire service staff including Jacob did a terrific job. They have been at the forefront at all times and worked very hard to please us and make this wedding a once in a lifetime experience. Everybody walked the extra mile for us. The hotel Stella Maris is absolutely wonderful. It is a very charming, lovely and stylish boutique hotel with a very good eye for the details. The rooms are kept in a very nice Scandinavian interior design. From most of the rooms and the terrace you can see the Svendbørg sund and it gives you the feeling of being right by the sea. The restaurant and the food is fantastic and sustainable. The ingredients are very local or being delivered from the island Vejrø where they grow vegetables, pork, eggs etc. that are being used in the cuisine. Some of our guests mentioned that this was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. Also the a l a carte menu is excellent. We have not had a single menu that wasn't great. Also if you have time we would also recommend you to visit Vejrø, stay over in the lovely rooms and eat at the skipperly. There you can see and experience how the ingredients are being grown and kept. If you plan your wedding or just want to stay for a romantic weekend escape and want a wonderful hotel in a great location with competent, experienced, service oriented staff and fantastic local food - go there! We would do it any time again.
