Really bad experience at Queen's hospital, from entrance until I've left…read more I've had an awful abdominal pain which was going all the way to my back, I couldn't stay straight on my feet for too long and neither on chair. I've arrived there at 15:18 and after 15-20 min one of the nurse took my blood pressure and my temperature, after that I have waited for 6 hours to be assessed so I'll know which department should I go. I understand that there was cases urgent that had priority but still it's not acceptable to wait that long. After 6 hours I was sent to emergency major b, yellow area. I have arrived there helped by my daughter, I've check in at the reception, waited for another half of hour to be assessed again and to do the blood tests. I finished all this around 11pm. After that they've told me to wait in the other area from major b at a&e to be called by someone whenever my results were ready. I have waited until 3am in the morning to be taken by someone. The doctor that came, the only person who actually cared for his patients helped me. He gave me a strong antibiotic and he booked me in for a ct scan at 9 am. The pain wasn't as much at that moment as it was when I've arrived but it was still there, I could walk a bit better after the antibiotics. He prescribed me some medicine but he specified and insisted not to take them until the doctor from next shift reads my results. I've left the hospital at 6am. At 9am I came for the scan, the lady from reception didn't even know where to send me and move me from there to there. After the scan I've been told that I'll wait 2 to 3 hours for the result. I have waited until 4 pm, so another 7 hours spent over there for nothing. I decided to ask a nurse around 3pm, she moved me from one side to another, she didn't know, she told me that there's no doctor to read my scan results and told me that was going to find someone. At 4 pm a lady doctor came and took me inside and asked me what is my problem with my file in her hands. I started to explain her again what was wrong and that I did the scan. She DID NOT read my scan results, she DID NOT told me if it was ready or not she was really uncaring, and at the end told me to take the prescription that the previous doctor gave me, she DID NOT even looked at that prescription. I've left the hospital with pain, without a proper answer of what I have and totally disappointed and really tired of this uncaring staff. I had to go back at home to check what is wrong with me on my money, even though I pay taxes and work and have a life here, because In here I didn't get a proper treatment I was really neglected.

I had some friends who used to say "If you go to Queen's Hospital, don't stay overnight cause you…read morewon't ever leave if you do!" Well it's not THAT bad. Saying that, if you live in the catchment area for this ambulance service there's really nothing you can do about where you're going. There have been a lot of bad stories over the years in the press about Queen's not being what it should be. People going in and being in their beds in their own excrement and the standards just not being up to much. Well I'm fortunate to not have gone in as a patient for a few years (I went there back in 2012 because I broke my hand.), but had to visit my Dad in November because he had a stroke. Fortunately his speech wasn't slurred and he had no physical aliments, he did (and still does) suffer from aphasia as a result, this basically means he lost the ability to read, watch TV, listen to music, understand time and mixes some of his words up so it sounds like he's talking nonsense. Good points: Not many I'm afraid. The hospital is very new looking. It has facilities for people who are visiting their friends and relatives; Costa and a few places to eat. The receptionist and nursing staff were polite and helpful. The aftercare was very good; the hospital arranged various nurses and behaviour therapist for him very quickly. Bad points: I visited a few times and didn't leave with good impressions of the place really. Firstly it smells like horrible and rotting food, puke, pee and crap; there's really no delicate way to put it! I'm assuming the staff can't really smell it, but it is prominent. Personally I think they should go back to the days of disinfecting everything, and stop underpaying the cleaning staff, surely hygiene should come first? The place is a warren, and it's very easy to get lost, which I did the first time I visited. The ward I needed to go to wasn't plainly marked. Although staff were helpful towards me, their attitude was completely different to the patient. One catering staff assistant asking dad a question but then completely ignoring his reply. My dad has a limited diet that he eats and he hated the food, he said it tasted "diabolical", he ended up eating very little of the hospital food and was "told off" for not eating it. Honestly it smelt inedible to me too. Fortunately they didn't seem to care that we brought food in that my Dad could eat. (Is this a good point or a bad point?) In my Dad's ward there were lots of old, infirm, and senile patients, at least two of whom constantly shouted during the night and day. So he had no sleep some days because of all the noise being made. The Doctors wouldn't or couldn't tell us exactly what my dad's diagnosis was, what treatment they were going to take and when he would get certain tests and would be allowed to leave. My mum and her friend had to find a doctor/specialist and grill them intensely to get the information we needed from them. Because of cuts with staff and funding, and the running of hospital like businesses rather than places to save people's lives. We're forced to make do with what we have. To put up with substandard hygiene. Doctors and nurses working long hours for little pay. It's basically what you get. So if you're in the Essex/Havering area and you call an ambulance or have to go to hospital for physiotherapy, or surgery you'll definitely end up at Queen's. Not good, but it'll save your life.

As a foreigner that's accustomed to the level of care from my own providers, this hospital is AWFUL…read moreand I hope that I will never ever require any medical care when I'm back in the area. The safety of their patients from a security standpoint is NONEXISTENT. There were people that were clearly high out of their minds walking coming straight from outside the hospital in/out of the area where patients were being seen. It was concerning bc they would just walk around blurting out words and approaching people multiple times (myself and my mom included) asking for random things like a glass of water. When people The staff was ok. They were nice but they're clearly understaffed and their faces show it. I don't know if this is normal in this country but they would give people IV's in the hallway, they didn't even administer any of this stuff in a room! I didn't notice any of the staff washing their hands... After COVID and everything we've all experienced the past few years, we just didn't learn a darn thing.

Evil Nurses I had a…read moretwo-week stay at The Royal London back in 2016 and am still traumatized by the awful experience by "so-called" nurses. I had a broken pelvis and was thrown about like a rag doll by a male nurse after he changed my gown, and manhandled me into a clean gown whilst ripping out the cannula in my hand in the process, then literally thrown onto the hospital bed, all done without a word, I was given tablets that caused me to have diarrhea, I had to press the buzzer several times for a bedpan, which fell on deaf ears resulting in my horror and embarrassment in messing up the bed up, and if that wasn't bad enough, when the "so-called" nurse eventually bothered to attend to me (albeit too late) I was treated with utter disdain and disgust. The female nurse said "this is disgusting, you stink of dog poo" then proceeded to strip wash me in cold water very aggressively then threw the dirty gown in my face, saying "this is you" Hard to believe but true, I never in my entire 73 years of life been treated this bad and cannot believe this is the caring profession !!! Pure Evil

Eventually she agreed I could continue but said I should get it checked out. I felt ridiculous going to a&e but I was told to go there by the main hospital reception staff. I was booked in after explaining why I was there and then sat in the waiting area expecting to be there for about 5 hours. After 45 mins I was surprised to be called through to see a nurse. She took a few details and then I was told to go back to the waiting room. Another half an hour later I was called through to see a different nurse. She had a look at my foot then asked me to go and sit in the xray waiting room. Then another 50 mins later and I was taken through to have my foot xrayed before going back to the second nurse to get the results (fortunately it wasn't fractured!). I'm sure there is logic and reason to being seen by so many different people but it seemed like a waste of time for that first nurse to see me. I was pleasantly surprised with how quick it was though seeing as I was in a&e and I wasn't an emergency case. The staff were all friendly and helpful, which is something I haven't experienced at my GP medical centre near by. I can't comment on parking as I was able to walk there, but there is a bus stop right outside if you're able to take public transport and don't want to pay for parking. What I saw of the hospital seemed clean and I wouldn't hesitate going there again if I had to (although hopefully I won't need to!).

Dirty wards. If you notify a nursing assistant about a pill lying on the floor, they pick it up…read moreand put it on someone's tray. First of all, it should go on no one's tray, it should be thrown out. Secondly, how do you know whose tray to put it on? Patient files were sitting in open hanging file carts in the hallway outside the Emergency Room examining rooms. We were there during the remodel. No food, empty vending machines, no canteen. Cold water only, and no paper towels in the bathrooms near the vending area/taxi waiting room. Trash bins were overflowing. Floor was being replaced in entry hallway...tiles were pulled up and a piece of toast sat on the floor for one week. What appeared to be feces on the wall in the ward, next to someone's bed, and mashed potatoes. Our loved one's IV fell out at 5:50 one morning and we could not get anyone, despite multiple requests throughout the day, to re-insert it. Staff kept saying they were waiting for a "doctor" to come do it. At 6:30 at night no one had come yet. 13 hours with no IV fluid. Patient asked for 3 weeks to have a shampoo; they kept promising they would do it, but never did, not even once. Many times had to help the patient to the bathroom during the first week of the stay, as staff was too busy with other patients, despite putting in multiple requests. Kept serving patient "ice cream" with artificial sweeteners which were exacerbating an intestinal issue and preventing multiple scheduled evacuations. Patient would be cleared for evacuation by a doctor and nursing staff would then give conflicting reports to the evacuation company. Asked multiple times to have the patient transferred to another hospital, as the patient had insurance. Was told they are all teaching hospitals. Also asked, multiple times, to have the patient transferred to intensive care unit and was told the patient was too old. Had to leave the ward every day when the patients had nap time, when a bell was rung. No where to go when the bell for nap time rang - no place to sit, except one bench outside where the taxis picked up. The bench would seat 3 people, and it was always filled with smokers. All the pretty courtyards off the main hallways were locked, could not go out there to sit either. Literally no place to buy food if you were there as a loved one all day, and no place to sit. Had to walk the hallways during the nap time. One small chair to sit at the bedside, and was not allowed to stay there overnight. Notified the desk at the nursing station that I was afraid patient would aspirate - and it happened. Asked many times to have patient transferred to a private pay hospital, as we had insurance, and they would not do it. Prayer room was constantly locked; when you followed the directions on the sign to go to a certain place to have it unlocked, there was no one there. When arriving at the Plaistow town hall to register the death certificate it was discovered the hospital had given us another patient's death certificate, causing another cab ride back to the hospital for the correct one, then back to the town hall.
