I trusted my "collab" lawyer and fell blindly into hiring Jean due to feeling panicked at believing I needed keep a lawyer representing me at all times. I was told I needed a "bulldog" attorney for my case and she would fit the bill. After a initial turnover with Jean and my former attorney, I met with her for our first one-on-one meeting. Coming from the collaborative divorce process, much of the initial financial grunt work had been done on my side, so I was able to complete my financial declaration form (FAF). However, my husband owns a lawn maintenance business and it is probably 40-50% cash based, meaning he can hide money quite well. When I gave Jean my FAF but my husband's side was mostly blank, she yelled at me as to why I didn't have his side filled out. I had a friend in the financial industry to help me fill it out and they pointed out to me that I could not fill out what I didn't know on my husband's financial statements. Jean was furious and actually threw the papers back at me and scolded me that she did not have time for this crap and used the "F" word at me and said I would have to finish it in her library later. She yelled, "ok, NEXT!" I was fighting back my tears in my eyes wondering what I had gotten myself into. I was divorcing one verbally abusive person for another. Despite what I thought was some great documentation, police reports, documentation of events, financial records, etc., (you know, this is my first divorce) she scolded me that she could see "right away" she was going to have to contain me and my disorganization. I was fighting so hard to hold the tears back, telling myself I can not afford $300 an hour to cry in her office. She glared at me and said, "Why are you crying?". I thought wow, seriously??? She turned around to hand me a box of tissues and demanded to know why I was upset, When I told her I don't know what I am doing and I am just doing the best I can in my situation with tears streaming down my face (very ugly cry) , she took back the tissues and set them behind her without letting me have one. I thought maybe this is a "tough love" kind of lawyer, and she was just trying to toughen me up. Unfortunately, no. She is just an incredibly rude and mean person. I have met a few other people that worked with her and a friend that hired her over 20 years ago that classified her as a huge "B" that did not help him much in his case. As far as the legal stuff, she will get back to you usually promptly, (other than one time she didn't return my call for over 2 weeks), because her meter is running at $300/hr. Jean Derrick missed our first court date in which we filed for an expedited hearing before my husband left out of the country with our child. Her paralegal had given me the day after the actual date as the court date, so neither of us were there. I was devastated. Jean worked with my "to be" ex's lawyer for a consent order, but not court binding and it didn't handle everything that the hearing was supposed to. Jean never really apologized to me, but just said that the "past is the past and that we need to move on". I foolishly stayed with this woman for almost 5-6 months before I wised up and realized I did not have to take her verbal abuse anymore nor her subpar legal advice. I had to insist on setting up a legal trust to protect some of the cash gained from the initial sell of property. Sometimes I had to keep asking her the same questions because she did not answer my questions. In the end, she was only the "bulldog" to me, not my ex. She is not the least intimidating in court, more liken to rolling over. She is verbally abusive to her clients and she does not have their interests at heart, but more her financial bank statement. I learned after I had dismissed her, any remaining retainer, she kept. Her rules.

He said if I don't move out before he opens the case or if I'm not moved out before the day of the case, then the judge will automatically will throw out my case and I would have wasted 3.5k. I wanted the judge to order my spouse to move out and I move back in my own home I bought before marriage. Farley then said the judge might decide to leave things the way they are: my spouse lives in my house rent free, while i pay rent outside my home which could last 1-2 years!!! I did research and I found out I didn't have to move out. The temp hearing is WHEN the judge decides who moves out! That explains why I kept reading do NOT move out. The judge will rule in favor of the one who didn't move out. I wasted rent money because I lived out of my home 5 months in total. 5 months of wasted rent money when my own home has zero rent because I paid cash for it before marriage!! I trusted my lawyer and never questioned him , until one day I decided to do research!!! Text me at 803 665 4606.
