It's walking distance from the corner of Don Juico and Fil-Am Friendship Hwy. There are a few parking spaces in the front and the guard can help you maneuver in and out of them: the street traffic can be busy. The fruits and veggies are better here than Puregold. Some of the items don't have price tags on them or on the shelf, so you'll need to use their price check scanner at the back. You'll find me here only IF I'm in the immediate area AND I am in the mood to pick up some seaweed snacks, frozen dumplings or specialty Korean items I need for a recipe. I would much rather go to the daughter store (I'm Mart II) on Don Juico near Puregold, because it's newer, cleaner and staff are friendlier.

It's bright, clean, well stocked, organized, and with several parking spaces out front; the best part is that it's open 24/7. I can find many of my favorite items here: Gardenia bread, Melona ice cream, yogurt drinks, seaweed snacks, and frozen dumplings at cheap prices. Their produce looks fresh and their meat section doesn't smell. Staff are helpful but don't look too happy. In the back left corner there is a decent size household section. New arrivals and best selling items are marked with signs COOL! There are two working price scanners. Many cashier lines are open and there's no waiting during the daytime on weekdays. This is my favorite Korean Grocery Store in Korea Town.

I had only seen Gmart as a typical Korean grocery store where I could go if I wanted Korean specialty items. It's difficult to get here if you don't have your own car, because the jeeps aren't running during the Covid-19 crisis and they don't allow Tricycles inside Clark Freeport. They have their own private parking lot. There's usually no lines outside at night but you'll still need to d deal with the lines at the cashier, they're slow as molasses. At the door they'll check your temperature and spritz your hands with alcohol, masks are mandatory for entrance. They have a decent sized meat and seafood section with good variety. My friend also pointed out that they have the cheapest price for printer paper around, so we picked up a box. They have a separate room for their kitchen and table ware off to the left of the store. My friend was right, the prices for imported fruits and veggies are much cheaper here than the Philippine chain grocery stores, plus the produce looks much fresher and in better condition. Need another reason to come here? It's located on the same street as the duty free Puregold store, SHOPPING!!!!!!!

There's a deli and a grocery section with exotic spice packets and lots of imported goods from the US and Europe. Make sure you're wearing a mask before you enter. At the door the guard will check your temp and spritz your hands with alcohol. Currently there's no limit to the number of customers that can enter at one time; you will definitely need to remind the other shoppers to keep their distance. What irritates me about this place is that many items are missing price tags. I come here mainly for their baked goods and specialty items. I'm looking forward to trying out food from their cafe.

It's smaller than the mother store on Fil Am Friendship Fwy, but newer and cleaner. Guard happily opens and closes door for you. Friendly cashiers greet as you enter and leave. Store has a strong aircon, and is open 24/7. Mainly a Korean grocery store with some imported American products. Their fruits and vegetables look much better than Puregold a few doors down. Majority of the items don't have price tags on the packaging nor on the shelves: a major pet peeve of mine, BUT they do have a price check machine in the back. Found some reasonably priced eggs and a BOGO section in the front. I would come back IF I was in the area and Puregold didn't have what I needed OR if Puregold is closed, since I'm Mart II is open 24/7.

The person doing the orderting and logistics here needs to be fired and they need to hire someone that can do the job. The store even with all its promotions and such actually has no concern for the quality of the merchandise and no sense of customer service or making sure their customers get the freshest and best merchandise, they just want to make $$. Kang's has a wide selection of Korean food and other products. Whenever I crave for kimchi or gochujang, their Valero shop has become my go-to place. Apart from Korean products and goodies, Kang's also sells fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat products. In fact, I'd also pop up in their store during emergencies when my own pantry has ran out of garlic, tomato, onions and other essential cooking ingredients. I choose this grocery even if there are so many 24-hour convenience stores and a Rustan's Supermarket in the vicinity. The reason: Kang's has that unsophisticated atmosphere expected in a neighborhood store. You can even chat with the friendly owners if they happen to be present. The staff are usually nice but sometimes can't be bothered to help out. They also sell some fresh produce, bottled drinks, noodle cups, and many other curious things worth experimenting and trying out. Usually I would just stick to one or two Korean ice cream treats but more often than not, I am with enabler friends who also like to buy different things. Fuji Mart is just 3 minutes away from my apartment, and I do stop by here to buy some nori whenever I want to make veggie sushi, and Kikkoman soy sauce for when I want to make vegan yakimeshi. I mean, of course they have nori. But there are other things I like about Fuji Mart, such as they sell good Japanese tofu, instant miso soup, wasabi, Japanese breadcrumbs, kombu seaweed (great for making veggie stock!), Japanese spices, sesame seeds and edamame! I've never come across edamame being sold in supermarkets. I have yet to veganize my other Japanese food favourites, such as tonkatsu, ramen, and gyoza. But once I do take on those challenges, naturally this is where I'll be stopping by for ingredients.

But outside of this, they don't have too much else to offer consumers. I would, for example, like to see them carry the widest possible array of instant noodles, if only because the local ones and the made-in-China ones aren't all that tasty. Japan also has some of the best chocolates and assorted sweets that can grow on you. Even their ice creams with their odd flavors can be winners. Here's hoping that in the months and years to come, they can expand their product line. I'm sure they will have ready buyers for all things Japanese, not only because there is a small Japanese community in Better Living, but because us Pinoys have also developed a taste for all things Japanese.

If you actually want to spend less on food, there are SO MUCH options at the food kiosks outside of Robinson's Supermarket. Even for vegetarians and vegans! I was really intrigued by this beautiful fresh lumpia being sold at one of the kiosks. And, it's not at all your usual Chinese-style fresh lumpia with the shredded carrots and garlicky sauce, but rather imagine a fresh and fruity veggie salad nicely wrapped in a fresh lumpia wrapper. It was actually a very pretty sight that you wouldn't expect that it was from a humble food kiosk. It looked AND tasted expensive--it had grapes, mangoes, nuts... YUM. And it was what like... Php 60? They also have a lot of other vegetable and fruit options here. There's a salad bar (Robinson's Supermarkets have the best ones among supermarkets, in my opinion), a Mongolian rice box station with a great selection of veggies (they have mushrooms!), fresh fruit juices, the usual turon, kamote, kakanin snacks, and cheap Pinoy ulam (they had munggo when I was there). You can just buy food here and eat it at the food court as well. Easy peasy!

They still have a great amount of room, which is what Magnolia is know for pretty much, and have a nice selection of grocery items, especially upscale classy stuff like confectionery and bath products. I love that they have an aisle just full of local products and right next to that is a rack of imported goods--it's funny and it also makes you want to buy stuff! I also like that even at the less populated corner of the grocery near check-out, it doesn't feel sad or dismal, even though the counters can fill up. They have a lot of other stalls of interest right at the grocery too, like their pharmacy, liquor stands, a Pick & Mix, a flower booth, and the more important salad and fruit bar!
