This was a really nice hotel we were able to afford it because we used our travel points but this is super bougie for a Holiday Inn. Love their Boutique collection. And really enjoyed our stay here we stayed a couple nights then we went on a tour and came back and stayed another couple nights. They were very nice to hold our luggage since our tour company doesn't let you take all your luggage. Our first room was a higher room and had a view of the castle I wish I'd taken pictures I foolishly thought we'd get the same room but we did not. Our second room was lower level and didn't have a view. The service here was great they helped you with anything you wanted help with. There was parking around the corner. Finding the hotel was a little tricky they don't have signs that you would be able to see from the road or even from the street it's very subtle. Definitely have to use the GPS. Nice Decor very bougie. When the guy was giving us the initial tour he said something about a complimentary alcohol tasting in the bar at a certain hour but when I went there it was evidently just a happy hour which that's not the same as he said but anyway that was a little disappointing. I don't think we ate at their restaurants at all I think we went elsewhere but there was a lot within walking distance. Edinburgh had a lot to offer was a great town wish we'd had more time to spend I could have spent a whole week there and still not begun to seen it all. Our group was disappointed we didn't get to go into the castle but I don't care about castles Europe is full of them I'm sick of castles so that wasn't a big deal to me but if you are interested you might want to get tickets ahead of time. Appreciated that they gave us some snacks and drinks in our refrigerator complimentary that was very appreciated.

Absolutely beautiful hotel in a fantastic location with very friendly staff. I will admit it I'm a hotel snob ‍ but when sleeping in a strange location and spending money, I'm allowed to be. I walked from the train station which is more than half a mile but less than a mile from the hotel. Wonderful google had me cross over rose street so I was turned around a bit. Note to others make a right and don't cross the street. The hotel is tucked in what would be something similar to a brownstone. Just look for a posh gentleman or gentlewoman standing out front. The room is very well appointed including a towel warmer. I mean who doesn't want a warm towel after a shower. There's a great seating area and comfortable bed. I did struggle turning on the tv but I took that as a sign that one shouldn't be watching tv while on holiday. Although if you're in the US we know we don't get holiday, we get a few weeks of vacation and don't push it with how much you take at once PS they have a social hour between 5 and 6pm so complimentary beer and wine whoop whoop If I'm in Edinburgh I'm definitely returning, thanks for a great stay Kimpton

Six Things We Liked and Three Things We Disliked About Kimpton Charlotte Square: SIX THINGS WE LIKED: 1. Exceptional service. The staff are clearly well-trained--friendly, courteous, and professional. We had great interactions with everyone, from the front desk to the restaurant and room service teams. Although we had an issue with the bed (discussed below), they really went above and beyond to try to resolve it. 2. Great location. It's about a 30-second walk to Rose Street, a 1-minute walk to Princes Street, and a 10-15 minute walk to the Royal Mile. Plenty of restaurants are within walking distance. 3. Nice bar and restaurant. Baba, a Lebanese restaurant connected to the hotel, has a nice bar and happy hour from 5-6 p.m. We had dinner at Baba once; while it wasn't exceptional, it was good. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try Aizle, the fine dining restaurant, but we heard great things about it. 4. Room upgrade through AMEX.We booked our room through AMEX Travel and were upgraded to a larger room. We stayed in room 573, which was a comfortable size--not huge, but definitely not a shoebox either. 5. Decent breakfast. The breakfast was okay! I wouldn't pay £30 for it, but since it was included in our AMEX booking, it was a nice addition. 6. Good gym.The gym has enough equipment for a solid workout. While it's not as nice as the Caledonian or the Sheraton, it did the job! THREE THINGS WE DIDN'T LIKE: 1. The mattress. Wow, I could've slept on the floor and not noticed a difference--that's how firm the mattress was! I complained to the hotel about it, and they tried to resolve the issue by adding pillow tops and extra duvet covers, but it didn't make a significant difference. Because of this, I was unable to get a good night's sleep. It was easily the worst mattress I've ever experienced in a hotel, especially at a 5-star establishment. I'm unsure if all the mattresses are the same, but I would definitely avoid the mattress in room 573. 2. Mediocre food. As I mentioned earlier, breakfast was included through our AMEX card, which was a nice perk. However, I would not be happy if I had paid £30 for the breakfast buffet; it simply wasn't great. Beyond breakfast, we ordered room service twice and were unimpressed both times. 3. Flawed shower design. While the shower had great water pressure and heat, the design was flawed, leaving the floor covered in water every time we showered. IN SUMMARY: While the staff and customer service were exceptional, we won't stay here again. We typically stay at the Caledonian but wanted to give the Kimpton a shot. If you're going to spend money on a 5-star hotel, I recommend the Caledonian over the Kimpton.

Strategically located in the heart of Edinburgh and perched on the edge of a picturesque private garden in the New Town, Kimpton Charlotte Square this hotel blends traditional Arabic decor with the Scotland of today. They offer a rich copious breakfast. You are a couple feet away from George Street where you have plenty of great restaurants and pubs. Is also a good value for a luxury experience that does not break the bank.

Owned by Sir Rocco Forte since 1997, the building has been completely refurbished and now enjoys a worldwide reputation as a luxury hotel. The hotel is a well-loved landmark which has graced Edinburgh's skyline since 1902 when it began its life as a grand railway hotel. Of course the building has undergone many changes since then but even to this day it still holds a certain magic that has luckily been harnessed and maintained. The famous Balmoral hotel is an iconic feature in the Edinburgh city skyline. The Balmoral has been hosting royalty, celebrities, and cultural icons for 120 years, but the staff makes everyone feel special regardless who you are. We went back two days in a row because it is such a beautiful space with quality food and cocktails. The design is stylish modern classic with some of the most beautiful glassware I've seen. The cocktail menu hosts a nice variety of wonderful signature and classic recipes. I had the Nutty Professor (photo #2) which was a tasty blend of Bourbon, spiced rum, Cocchi Torino (sweet vermouth), Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur), and black walnut bitters with an orange garnish. It was so good I didn't change it up for my second. The cocktail menu is fun because of its local focus. They use fresh, locally sourced ingredients, reflecting a commitment to quality and a connection to the surrounding Scottish landscape. We loved everything about the experience for our first time visiting Scotland. The Balmoral Hotel and Bar Prince are a must when you visit beautiful Edinburgh. Go there!!! Salute

There is a restaurant in the hotel but there are a LOT of restaurants within walking distance. We had asked for a room with two beds thinking they would be single beds. (Our last experience with hotels in Europe was not a great one. We had a tiny room and a tiny bed,) When we got our room it was bigger than we expected. It had two beds-one was a king and the other a queen. What a nice surprise! There is no air conditioning in most hotels in Europe. With the windows open and a fan I was quite comfortable because the temp was around 60° the three nights we were there. The hubby who likes it much colder said it was bearable. The staff was friendly. The hotel was clean. I don't remember if breakfast is included in the price. There is a buffet breakfast or you can order off the menu. The last morning I ordered the smoked salmon, poached eggs, and sourdough toast off the hot menu. It was delicious. Had to have smoked salmon before I left Scotland...wish I would have ordered it sooner. Yummy. Would have given it 4 stars but with the lack of ac and having to climb several sets of stairs before you get to the elevator I'm giving it 3 stars. In all fairness, on occasion I did use the hotel ramp to get into or leave the hotel but that entailed walking through the rain. It did, however, lead you directly to the elevator.

First of all, the location was perfect for us. It's right on Festival Square. Just look at the view that we had from our window on the 7th floor. The castle view is amazing! If you're a fan of concerts, then you'll also be happy that Usher Hall is right across the street from the hotel. The Edinburgh Farmers Market (every Saturday) is just behind the auditorium on Castle Terrace. There are many great restaurants all along Lothian, Fountainbridge, and everywhere in between as you walk up to Grassmarket. The great service started immediately with Ryan. He checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. He was a great resource throughout our stay. The lobby was always neat as a pin. There's infused water available. The club is also accessed from this 1st floor area. We chose the Castle Suite which was very comfortable and spacious. The lighting and AC controls are modern and easy to figure out. There were plenty of electrical outlets (adaptable), and all were where we needed them to be. The bed was comfy, and house cleaning was great in getting the room ready in a timely matter on each day. I enjoyed the chocolate that was left for us each day at turn down. It was always a different flavor. The shower pressure and bath amenities were also great. We were also happy that our room included club access. It was great to be able to use their coffee machines throughout the day. I especially loved the fresh orange juice machine. Just insert a couple of whole oranges at the top and it produces a full glass of juice. Loved it! You'll also get access to the breakfast buffet at One Square on the 2nd floor. We did try it out on our last full day there. It had a larger variety of buffet items with table service. I especially liked the stuffed croissants. I think the one I had was filled with rhubarb. All the pastries were fresh daily. You can order an egg any way you like it, but you need to ask for it. It doesn't have the same open kitchen concept like the one in Kraków. I thought the breakfast buffet in Kraków was better. Although, I did get to try some unique Scottish items such as haggis and tattie scones. It was still well-done. I would most definitely stay here again. It made quite an impression on us for its comfortable amenities, good value, and location. Marriott Bonvoy members should be very happy here.
