Beautiful hotel in a historic building directly adjacent to Charlotte square. Great location with easy access to main attractions - 15-20 min walk to old town. Staff were all friendly. Rooms are smaller even with upgrade, but I think that may be typical of uk and Europe. Hotel has a nice pool with dry and steam sauna along with spa services for purchase. Rooms were elegant and nightly turn down service came with treats such as chocolates or body oil. Room came with plenty of bottled water, filter and nespresso coffee and a treat box with chips and local snacks, all complimentary end refilled daily. Room 387 may be haunted. We stayed there for two nights and each night the shower ran at about 3:45 am. for 5 minutes. It was not residual water from previously, but full on. There are no upgradable king beds, or king beds at all in this hotel. read more

One of the best I've experienced in the UK. The staff is second to none. They are experts in their craft and hospitality is unmatched from my time across several continents. We truly felt it was a home away from home, and we thoroughly enjoyed every moment here. Even after our departure I felt a certain comfort in calling the front desk settling up some last minute tabs. The rooms had every detail in place and our hosts were overly accommodating. I cannot speak an ill word of this place and would consider it my only hotel in Edinburgh simply off the service. Every person we encountered in this establishment was warm, inviting, and authentic. The environment is welcoming to outsiders and kindness is the currency. Everyone in this place has been truly exceptional from the front desk to the baggage, bar, and restaurant. The people make the difference. Breaking the service wall to human emotion has a power like none other and our hosts executed perfectly. I didn't feel like I paid the Kimpton Charlotte Square on this trip, but rather paid Duwain, Samantha, and Stephen as well as several others. Well done friends and I hope this reaches the highest levels of management so you can reap the benefits of what you deserve. We hope to see you again read more

This was a really nice hotel we were able to afford it because we used our travel points but this is super bougie for a Holiday Inn. Love their Boutique collection. And really enjoyed our stay here we stayed a couple nights then we went on a tour and came back and stayed another couple nights. They were very nice to hold our luggage since our tour company doesn't let you take all your luggage. Our first room was a higher room and had a view of the castle I wish I'd taken pictures I foolishly thought we'd get the same room but we did not. Our second room was lower level and didn't have a view. The service here was great they helped you with anything you wanted help with. There was parking around the corner. Finding the hotel was a little tricky they don't have signs that you would be able to see from the road or even from the street it's very subtle. Definitely have to use the GPS. Nice Decor very bougie. When the guy was giving us the initial tour he said something about a complimentary alcohol tasting in the bar at a certain hour but when I went there it was evidently just a happy hour which that's not the same as he said but anyway that was a little disappointing. I don't think we ate at their restaurants at all I think we went elsewhere but there was a lot within walking distance. Edinburgh had a lot to offer was a great town wish we'd had more time to spend I could have spent a whole week there and still not begun to seen it all. Our group was disappointed we didn't get to go into the castle but I don't care about castles Europe is full of them I'm sick of castles so that wasn't a big deal to me but if you are interested you might want to get tickets ahead of time. Appreciated that they gave us some snacks and drinks in our refrigerator complimentary that was very appreciated. read more

Would have no trouble rating this place higher than 5 stars. Every employee I interacted with was focused on solving whatever challenge I put in front them. Location is great and the rooms (I stayed 2 separate times in a week) were both clean and roomy, especially for the UK. If I had one grumble about the place it's that the sign by the door is just a brass plaque about 12x24in (300x600mm) so it's not very clear where to actually go once the GPS announces you have arrived. read more

Absolutely beautiful hotel in a fantastic location with very friendly staff. I will admit it I'm a hotel snob ‍ but when sleeping in a strange location and spending money, I'm allowed to be. I walked from the train station which is more than half a mile but less than a mile from the hotel. Wonderful google had me cross over rose street so I was turned around a bit. Note to others make a right and don't cross the street. The hotel is tucked in what would be something similar to a brownstone. Just look for a posh gentleman or gentlewoman standing out front. The room is very well appointed including a towel warmer. I mean who doesn't want a warm towel after a shower. There's a great seating area and comfortable bed. I did struggle turning on the tv but I took that as a sign that one shouldn't be watching tv while on holiday. Although if you're in the US we know we don't get holiday, we get a few weeks of vacation and don't push it with how much you take at once PS they have a social hour between 5 and 6pm so complimentary beer and wine whoop whoop If I'm in Edinburgh I'm definitely returning, thanks for a great stay Kimpton read more

Six Things We Liked and Three Things We Disliked About Kimpton Charlotte Square: SIX THINGS WE LIKED: 1. Exceptional service.The staff are clearly well-trained--friendly, courteous, and professional. We had great interactions with everyone, from the front desk to the restaurant and room service teams. Although we had an issue with the bed (discussed below), they really went above and beyond to try to resolve it. 2. Great location. It's about a 30-second walk to Rose Street, a 1-minute walk to Princes Street, and a 10-15 minute walk to the Royal Mile. Plenty of restaurants are within walking distance. 3. Nice bar and restaurant. Baba, a Lebanese restaurant connected to the hotel, has a nice bar and happy hour from 5-6 p.m. We had dinner at Baba once; while it wasn't exceptional, it was good. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try Aizle, the fine dining restaurant, but we heard great things about it. 4. Room upgrade through AMEX.We booked our room through AMEX Travel and were upgraded to a larger room. We stayed in room 573, which was a comfortable size--not huge, but definitely not a shoebox either. 5. Decent breakfast. The breakfast was okay! I wouldn't pay £30 for it, but since it was included in our AMEX booking, it was a nice addition. 6. Good gym.The gym has enough equipment for a solid workout. While it's not as nice as the Caledonian or the Sheraton, it did the job! THREE THINGS WE DIDN'T LIKE: 1. The mattress. Wow, I could've slept on the floor and not noticed a difference--that's how firm the mattress was! I complained to the hotel about it, and they tried to resolve the issue by adding pillow tops and extra duvet covers, but it didn't make a significant difference. Because of this, I was unable to get a good night's sleep. It was easily the worst mattress I've ever experienced in a hotel, especially at a 5-star establishment. I'm unsure if all the mattresses are the same, but I would definitely avoid the mattress in room 573. 2. Mediocre food. As I mentioned earlier, breakfast was included through our AMEX card, which was a nice perk. However, I would not be happy if I had paid £30 for the breakfast buffet; it simply wasn't great. Beyond breakfast, we ordered room service twice and were unimpressed both times. 3. Flawed shower design. While the shower had great water pressure and heat, the design was flawed, leaving the floor covered in water every time we showered. IN SUMMARY: While the staff and customer service were exceptional, we won't stay here again. We typically stay at the Caledonian but wanted to give the Kimpton a shot. If you're going to spend money on a 5-star hotel, I recommend the Caledonian over the Kimpton. read more

This was a great hotel that I stayed in for a few reasons. 1) I love Kimptons. 2) It's in the heart of Edinburgh close to everything right off of Prince's street. 3) I had enough IHG points to pay for 5 nights. First off, the location is great. My friend and I walked from Waverly train station, and it wasn't that bad when we arrived (when we left, the hotel staff arranged for a cab to take us back to the station for our early train). There are a lot of restaurants in the area. We did a food tour, and the tour guide even recommended the Baba restaurant in the hotel for the best Lebanese food in the city. (Baba is where they have the breakfast buffet with general food -- Scottish breakfast, yogurt, cheeses, pastries, etc.) The room was comfortable. We had 2 single beds, and the beds were very nice. The big problem we noticed was that the shower overflowed and made a mess in the bathroom. I reported this after the first night, and it wasn't fixed, so the hotel staff gave us access to an additional room to shower for the night, and they fixed it the next day, finally. We were also given the option of moving rooms, but it was 8pm on our 2nd day there, and we were settled in, so that would've been a big inconvenience. If it hadn't been fixed the next day, we would've moved rooms. Of note, at one point, I was told that maintenance said that the shower didn't overflow, but we sure had a wet bathroom floor. When they finally did fix it, the drain worked so much better than before. I did lose a little confidence in the front desk staff when it wasn't fixed the first day, eg. would the cab show up to take us to the station since maintenance didn't come the first day I reported the shower. In general, I would absolutely stay here again. Edinburgh is a very walkable city. The doorman and staff had excellent recommendations for places to eat, where to buy the best Edinburgh shortbread, etc. read more

Great stay...from the greeting at the front desk to checkout, all was 5-star. We booked IHG from the stats thinking we'd get a generic US experience, but no! We got a warm Scottish experience. I rarely take time to write reviews, however the experience at this hotel was above and beyond anywhere else that I've experienced in the world. First of all, the hotel itself is beautiful and magical, but as stunning as it was, the people there were better. I have never stayed anywhere where I have felt as welcomed and taken care of as I did here. I loved my time here so much that I extended my stay not once, but twice, and canceled our plans to go to London! From the moment we walked in, every single person there went to great lengths to ensure that this day was as amazing in magical as possible. I don't know how they found everyone here, but I am so happy they did. Some notable people that made our stay amazing were Lilita, Ruby, Remy, and Gary. However, Elvira at the front desk was a delight and I cannot say enough things about her. Any issue we had, she was there to help and really did everything to make us comfortable. The Kimpton is very lucky to have her. The spa was also incredible and we got the best massage of our lives. 1000/10. We will be back. read more

The best place to stay in Edinburgh! I loved my stay here and wish it was longer. The hotel is a collection of townhouses to make one amazing hotel. I had the pleasure of staying in room 33, the largest room in the hotel and it was amazing. The checkin was smooth and we were shown around the property by the awesome General Manager, Kieran. The room was spotless and so comfortable. The restaurant Baba was delicious. Everyone we met was so nice and helpful. The hotel is in the perfect location to explore the city. In all a pleasant 3 nights stay, but with a couple security concerns that MUST be mentioned. My identification was never verified. Not once. I gave my name at check in and they checked me in. Even handed me a paper to sign that had all my personal info on it. Same at check out. I could have been anyone. The hotel is not secure. They don't challenge anyone who walks in the door, and you can stroll straight thru, call the elevator, and go to any floor, right up to any door. The floors are long and dark, with maze like corridors. The lighting is low and the staff are few. Bad things can happen. After that does it matter that the atrium is full of light? That the fitness center has everything you need to train every day (as I certainly do)? That the in house restaurant Baba is wonderful? That the location in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle can't be beat? And the proximity to restaurants on George Street, a multitude of first class choices, will only make you regret that you cant enjoy 5 meals a day? No, safety first. And as a note, the staff were very nice. Except for the man who checked me out. He was condescending and impatient. Stay somewhere else. read more

Just wow! Exemplary customer service from the entire team. Everyone was friendly and accommodating from the get go. I lost my luggage and they had everything I needed on hand. Queenie went above and beyond during our stay! I missplaced my small camera sd card and she offered to help me find it. Not only is the service top notch but this location is perfectly central and I was able to walk everywhere. Our room was lovely and modern. I slept perfectly in the comfortable bed. Review is specifically for the dining area. Not sure about the quality of the rooms etc. Slow, lacklustre service. The waiter serving was less than attentive, and it seemed like it was the first time he'd ever summoned up the courage to speak aloud. The minimalist menu was apt, as there was no rocket for the salad I had initially requested, although it took thirty minutes for me to be informed of this. The food was below average, and overpriced, the ambiance and decor were also poor, the "restaurant" was essentially empty too. You would have a better experience next door at Alexander Graham Bell! I had a problem...left something in the safe of my Glasgow hotel room...& the Kimpton staff took charge & solved the problem.
