After 20 months of attempting to get this project underway, and simply not hearing back from local tree services in Albert lea, we reached out to Thate's Tree service, out of Fairmont, and were thrilled to finally have our backyard project underway after nearly 2 years of waiting on other tree service companies. What we experienced with Thate's started with a swift response to a quote request. Their communication before the project, during, and after was outstanding. No waiting to hear back and very clear answers to any questions we had before, during, and after the project. We didn't have to wait and wonder with Thate's. The first day they were on-site, they introduced us to each and every one of their teammates. We were always greeted by the team with kind smiles and kind hearts. Nice folks to do business with. Very professional and it's clear that safety is #1. They move swiftly and don't leave a "branch behind". I understand they've done a lot of work in the Albert Lea area and we would recommend them to anyone in southern Minnesota as their service area is very large! Thank you to John, Joe, and the friendly crew! Linda (and Joe) Mestnik

We had a couple of trees on our lakefront that were leaning at an alarming angle. They were going…read moreto be taken down or they were going to fall down, but they were for sure going to come down. We were in the process of selling our home so this was an important thing to deal with. Leaving them to fall on their own was not a viable option. It would tear up the lakefront (bad), it would damage the patio (worse), it might land on someone (even worse), the person it might land on could be a possible buyer (worst). So we needed a tree service. Pronto. After calling a few places and leaving messages, I contacted Jose at J&J. To my utter amazement he said they could come out that afternoon. Who does that? To compound the problem we had a sudden showing popped up an hour later. I told Jose he had to get the trees down before the buyer showed, he said he could, and he did. It was awesome. They took these two 40-50' trees down, carted them away, and tidied up. All in a couple of hours. As an example of good service the. They saw us tidying up the rest of the yard with my leaf blower, one of the guys came over with their industrial strength blower and helped us in short order. Jose was very easy to deal with, gave amazingly prompt service, and charged a most reasonable fee. Bailed us out of a problem situation. So J&J get my highest recommendation.

Unfortunately. I can not recommend this company. We worked with Cody a number of years ago. He…read morewas great to start with. He installed a fountain, that works great, tore down our deck and built a new one, and reworked the landscaping all around the house, creating what was supposed to be a maintenance free installation. Everything looked great. However, when the projects stopped being huge, Cody started to be much harder to get a hold of. We were pay as you go with him. If he determined that our money ran out, he wpuld stop working. Fair enough. But at about this time, we would send a payment and he still wouldn't show. We hired his company to maintain his installation (weeding, etc.) His worker showed up a couple times and then stopped. At about the same time, Cody completely disappeared, leaving a number of items undone, some of which we had paid for. The lowest step off our deck is still two cinder blocks instead of the flagstone he promised. He said he couldn't find it anywhere, but offered no solutions and then disappeared. And the "maintenance free" landscaping? Not so maintenance free. He lay down a black base that was to stop all the weeds, but the border around the house is as weedy as it ever was. We supposedly would not need to water either, but the plants he put in are not thriving and many of them have died and needed replacing. I need to give him some benefit of the doubt. That summer, it was impossible to find workers and I think he might have had some other difficulties, but even so, in the years since he ghosted us, he has NEVER contacted us to try to find a way to make things right. Everyone makes mistakes, but the people I want to work with are the people who acknowledge their mistake and try to make it right Anyway, if you are thinking about hiring Hilger's, just know that Cody will do a great job initially, but once he loses interest in your lawn, he will fade away. Also, I would strongly recommend you not pay him until a particular project is finished. I learned that lesson the hard way.
