Kimicata was an excellent company to work with. Very good communication between crew chief and our property manager and our landscape designer. Project entailed major landscape which consisted of 7 planters and over 100 individual plants. Plant selection was great - native grasses, flowering bushes and low water use plants. I've experienced a complete lack of customer service skills and rudeness from this company. After inheriting their services while taking over several properties from my mother-in-law, I'm making it a priority to find a new provider. When you call them, expect to be met with a brusque greeting and a dismissive attitude toward your questions, as if you're doing them a favor by reaching out. Just look at their responses to the other several complaints from other reviewers.. You can clearly see the lack of customer service skills. I have used Kimicata on two houses and numerous projects. We first had them do a complete re-landscape on our house on Winebiddle Street. Work was done professionally and on time. Looked great when it went in, and driving by today, many years later, their work has grown out and really makes our old house look great. We then used them to redo the landscaping on our Howe St. home. Again, they did a nice job with plant selection and it gave the home great curb appeal. We kept them on to do regular maintenance on the lawn (cutting, weeding, etc.). Always responsive when I called and the work speaks for itself. read more

Excellent communication, great results. We had a really difficult job including a tumbled down stone wall, clay soil with stone (Squirrel Hill PA), and lots of stairs to get to the job site. Run, run away from this company! Terrible customer relations and they do not stand behind their work. One of their repair guys came over to fix a faulty sprinkler head on the irrigation system they installed. In the process of digging up around the sprinkler head he accidentally damaged the main water line, cracked the pipe substantially, then put a hack fix on that pipe that didn't hold. Worse, he never informed us that he had to repair the water line that he had just cracked. Instead of fixing it properly, i.e. dig out a big trench around the pipe, cut the old pipe out, put new pipe in with couplings and glue, wait 24 hrs before using it and filling in the dirt again, he, trained by the Kimicata Company, always does this type of hack fix. As a result of Kimicata's incompetence and negligence we had a runaway water line gushing water underground that we were unaware was happening every time the sprinkler system was running. We received a $2k water bill that quarter and had to sleuth where the problem was coming from only to discover what this company had done. Shameful. The company doesn't stand behind their work or admit their errors. read more

The previous owner of our house used Kimicata to care for the garden, so we tried them. On a first visit, they were rude. We had gone away for most of the summer and the weeds had gotten overgrown. Weeding it wasn't a job they wanted. Hired someone else. The next spring, we called them again, thinking that since they had put in the plants originally they would know how to care for them. Estimate for spring cleaning of the garden and mulching was $1300. That's just crazy. Don't deal with these people. read more

I am not trying to hurt this guy or trash the business. However the owner clearly doesn't understand what it means to run a company and how to take constructive feedback (emailed with him before this post was ever done). He points out what I already stated, I did go to one of their guys who was cutting the grass for a neighbor down the street. All true, and it was to cut sod that his team did not lay, also true. But, when I approached the guy, he never said to call corporate and they did in fact do a crappy job. After discussing it, I would think that instead of blaming the victim (I asked nothing of the owner to repair the lawn that his guys destroyed/messed up or free cut or anything, just provided feedback (and wouldn't have shared publicly)). I was looking for sympathy and to also empower him as an owner to understand some of the issue the company had (taking side jobs is is clearly something that hurts his bottom line if he didn't get paid, they clearly represented themselves as the company). Regardless at the end of the day, i hired a crew that I thought was Kimicata and the owner showed no remorse, proceeded to berate me and refused to see how this information could be used to help him succeed. Further, owner is quite short-sighted and perhaps a good manager but definitely no visionary or leader i would ever want to work with or for. I wish him luck, and while I "sidestepped his quality control" I never intended nor thought that was the case, and recommended (and continue to recommend) he fix that "issue" down the road. Also, at $80 for a cut that would be astronomical for what i believe is approx 140 sqft section of grass that my $0.02 (or his $80). read more

We have used Paul and his crew from Kimicata Brothers for the last six years they do an amazing job with our yard and are one of the few gardeners who do irrigation work! They are efficient and trustworthy Paul does an exceptional job managing his business and gets his hands dirty working with his people. It is a family business where his daughter works alongside her father. Most of the lawn services in the Shadyside area their equipment looks worn and tired and so do the employees. This is not the case for Kimicata Brothers! I would highly recommend them. Oh by the way they do snow removal during the winter very reliable and on time. read more

I have been using Kimicata Brothers for several years now and they have been, by far, the best landscapers I've used. We don't live in a fancy neighborhood but I like our beds to look nice. Paul, the owner, has been so accommodating when I've had questions. He always returns my calls promptly and he's even come to the house on numerous occasions when I've wanted his opinion on something in the yard. We've used them for various services and they've been fine. But we were going to ask them for regular lawn care -- mostly lawn mowing -- and they refuse to do it unless they can use chemicals. Not an environmentally responsible company by any stretch. read more
