    Bulgogi Lunch Box
    Ashley J.

This was my first time here. I ordered the bulgogi lunch box to go. The bulgogi was amazing. Very tasty and cooked well. The rice was cooked to perfection as well. The Kimbab was my second favorite item in the lunch box. Personally I didn't care for the spring rolls. If I go back (which I definitely will) I will just order the bulgogi & rice with a side of Kimbab.

We were on a road trip and decided to get some Korean food this time before heading back North. We came across Kimchi, and as we entered we could tell that this whole in the wall was a populair spot, to eat in and take out. The food looks good and tasted delicious. The bad thing about good food far from home is, you can't try more, or enough of it. So if you happen to drive through, live near by, or you are a college student attending University of South Carolina this is the place you want to check out.

Great Korean food! Consistent experience. I've enjoyed this restaurant for a few years now.

When I think of great Korean food my mind travels all the way to Columbia South Carolina to Kimchi Korean Restaurant. I don't know what it is but I love their food. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall. You can definitely overlook it. I've been before a couple years back and after a visit to the Riverbank zoo I had to make a stop again fuel up for the ride back to Charlotte. I love the Beef Bulgogi bento box entree. It's so delicious and teamed up with all the bonchons it's plenty of food. On this visit we also got the Chicken Fried Rice since we had the kiddos with us. The fried rice was tasty but very similar to a Chinese take out fried rice. Kimchi has a very extensive menu and very authentic dishes. They play a video of photos of some of the dishes. There are a few I would like to try but I got to get my nerves up. Hopefully on the next visit I will give one an go. Seafood noodle soup. Yum!

I thoroughly enjoyed Kimchi! I came with a group of 5 and we had no problem getting seated at 6pm on a Monday. There was only 1 other table of people. (Although there were many people that came in to pick up take out) Everyone in my group seemed to really enjoy their food. It was very authentic. I had a seafood noodle soup and I was instantly impressed with just how much and the variety of seafood that they gave me. The menu said it was spicy, but it wasn't particularly so. It was a huge dish. I ate leftovers the next night and I still have a little left! That's my kind of restaurant! The woman who waited our table was incredibly nice! She was very sweet and tried her best to clarify things on the menu, despite a language barrier. She also gave us a complimentary appetizer because we were celebrating someone moving away. I can't wait to come back and try something different.

I went to Kimchi on a Thursday afternoon and there weren't many people there, so we were seated promptly and the waitress checked up on us often. I brought two kids who were very indecisive and loud, and the woman was extremely understanding and patient. The side dishes brought out had a smaller amount than I was used to, but quality was superb. The kids loved the different types of pickled radish and I thought the kimchi was some of the best I've ever had. We ordered fried dumplings as an appetizer and it was yummy. Came out steaming and crispy. I got the galbi and kimchi stew special and the kids got mild seafood ramen and mild kimchi ramen. The galbi was seasoned and cooked perfectly, not dry at all although I had some trouble pulling the meat off the bone. The kimchi stew cake out hot and bubbling. After one of the kids tried my stew, she switched her order to kimchi ramen if that tells you how good it was! The oldest loooved her kimchi ramen and the littlest kept adding spoonfuls of kimchi soup to her seafood ramen, hoping to make it spicier. We also got an iced coffee which was basically a coffee frap-slushee and it was delicious. Great food and great service, we will be back soon!

Another new owner, another new name, but amazingly awesome Korean food! Really nice owner and customer service! My new go to for my monthly Korean meals with my mother. Today we went for lunch: Lunch Spicy pork- not too greasy and seasoned very well. Not to overly hot and you can enjoy the pork flavor. Seaweed soup- steaming hot and great after having a baby, surgery, or for a celebration! They made it special for us and my mother greatly enjoyed it! Fish and soup- mine and I loved it! Fish was pan fried not grilled. I payed extra for tofu soup over kimchi soup. And it was so worth it. I found a great go to meal that appears to be low fat and low calories. FYI there are about 1/2 oz of cubes potatoes in the soup. I'm sure you can ask for no potatoes. We got the small dishes with the meal. Less then other restaurants, but they were tasty and Kimchi replenished them all.

Does this restaurant have the korean bbq in the middle of your table, as I have seen in an Atlanta Korean restaurant?

No. I think HERO is the name of the one that does. It less than 10 miles away.

The drinks were blended very well and used fresh lime juice, which was nice. The appetizers -- the kimchi fries and the boneless wings were pretty standard. The fries were crunchy, but we felt like there was more cheese than there was kimchi and sauce, so we've had better kimchi fries elsewhere. The cheese was very gooey though. The boneless wings weren't as crunchy as they could have been, especially coming out in a stone dish, but the garlic soy sauce was still pretty good. Our mains were really good -- the japchae, which I ordered with fried tofu, had the right texture and flavor, and was delicious yet spicy. The tofu was a little bland though. My partner enjoyed the squid and pork belly dish and said that the sauce was similar to the japchae sauce. The portions were pretty normal and not too big, so we had a few leftovers but not too many. The prices were also pretty reasonable as well. Overall we were really happy with our food here and would come back if we ever visited again.

I'm shocked she thought it was okay to touch a baby--especially when we're strangers. That was completely inappropriate. The server was rude, and when my mom asked for hot water, we were told they don't have any. Do they not have a kettle or a pot to boil water? That would have been more than enough. There were no accommodations at all. The food was another huge disappointment. If you look at older pictures, you'll see the huge variety of banchan they used to serve. Now, we only got six, and the portions were tiny. Prices have gone up, but the quality has dropped. We used to be able to ask for refills on our favorites, but today when my husband asked for more pickled bean sprouts, the server refused, saying we had to finish everything else first. That's just rude and unnecessary; we're not wasteful on food. We just simply asked for a refill on a dish that we favored more than the others. The service was terrible. The server never checked on us, and we had to flag her down for a to-go box while she was chatting at another table with her back turned towards us. When it was time to pay, my husband didn't leave a tip due to the poor service, and the server had the audacity to confront him about it. She argued with him, justifying her refusal to give a simple refill by saying food costs are high and people waste banchan. That might be true for others, but we're not those customers. This assumption was insulting and uncalled for. I don't know if it's new management or what, but the service here has gone downhill fast. This was once our go-to spot, but we'll be taking our business elsewhere from now on.

I went in with my mom, wife, and baby boy, expecting a great meal like we used to have here. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing short of disappointing. First, after taking our order, the server noticed my son and pinched his cheeks--making him cry. Then, she offered him a lollipop... to an 11-month-old baby. Completely inappropriate. My mom simply asked for hot water, and we were told they don't have any. How does a restaurant not have a way to heat water? The real disappointment was in the food. This place used to serve 15 banchan (side dishes), but today we received only six, all in tiny portions. Prices have gone up, portions have shrunk, and the service has taken a nosedive. When I asked for more pickled bean sprouts--my favorite--the server refused, saying I had to finish all the other banchan first. What are we, adolescents? I didn't realize we needed to "clean our plates" before we could get a simple refill. That's never happened here or at any other Korean restaurant I've been to. The worst part? We always finish all the banchan dishes because that's what we look forward to the most when we come here. I lost my appetite after that. On top of that, the service was terrible. She never once came by to refill our water or ask if everything was okay. When we finished eating, we had to flag her down just to ask for a box, because she was sitting at another table with her back turned, gossiping with two other ladies. When I went to pay, I left no tip due to the poor service. The server then had the audacity to call me out, saying, "Tip is not included, you leave no tip?" I explained the bad service, specifically how she refused a simple refill, and she proceeded to argue with me--justifying it by saying food costs are high and that people waste banchan. That might be true for some, but we're not those customers. Making that assumption about us was insulting. Plus, you made my son cry. I don't know of many strangers who would touch a baby's face like that. This place used to be a go-to for us, but they've completely lost our support. I love supporting small businesses, but when you start nickel-and-diming customers over basic hospitality and provide awful service on top of it, you ruin the dining experience.
