Queens Hall was in fact opened by the Queen herself way back in the day when she looked fit on 2p's. The days of Queens Hall being the centre of a thriving market town are long gone but this is still a venue that can host some cultural evenings and play a vital role in Newtownards capabilities for hosting large events such as the recent International Guitar Festival. Queens Hall is also available to hire for private parties, concerts and weddings. It is owned by the local Council so the best way to enquire about hiring this venue is to contact them. All in all if this place got a lick of paint and a bit of a spring clean I think it could be restored to its former glories and be once again fit for royalty.

There are 3 elements to the Belfast Barge which was news to me when I visited last week. Much more than just a boat The Belfast Barge is a successful restaurant, a museum and an events venue. Next week they are hosting a comedy night in their events venue, which will be very cosy. The museum is full of maritime facts and history depicting Northern Irekand's ship building and boating heritage. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions. The restaurant is fully licensed and acts as a café bar during the day and at night live music and cabaret dominate the barge, the boat will literally be rocking!

This place would suit a small party, disco etc though the ceiling would be too low for a nouncey castle! There are toilet facilities here too and a kitchen to heat or prepare food. The manor house is set on the grounds of the Ulster folk park, however it is not open to the public as part of the tourist attraction. The stunning venue is set up high, with magnificent views over Belfast Lough from the grounds behind the house where guests enjoyed a glass or two of pimms and an ice cream served from a vintage bicycle cart, complete with vintage server. Michael was the perfect host, ensuring our day passed without hiccup and gently guiding the day along. He even gave us a lift to the Culloden afterwards (which sounded great till I tried to get in a regular car with my dress!) The food was amazing, with the venue going over and above to create a bespoke menu for all food loving couples. Not a scrap remained uneaten! We had free rein of the full house for our whole day and were given the day before to decorate to our hearts content - only if no wedding the day before I imagine! I know that wedding venues need to be personal to the couple in question, and everyone's needs are different, but Larchfield was fantastic as a venue for us. The quaint walled gardens and the incredibly romantic private lake and forests where you can have your pictures taken, as well as the rustic, charming barn was just perfect for us. The barn is a little plain by daylight, but if you get talented event designers in, the place can really become a fairly land. They have three main rooms in the barn, one large function room, a bar area and a dance floor area, as well as an attached marquee. We were lucky with the weather, and had our cocktails on the lawn - it made things really special. The staff and owners of Larchfield were incredibly accommodating and helpful and made our day totally perfect. I think anyone who is looking somewhere a little different for their wedding should look here. I want to go back there and do it all again! P.S - The venue is really not appropriate for young children or toddlers.
