During my Scotland visits, I always have to tick some food boxes. Kilnford Barns did the trick at breakfast this morning through a simple haggis & egg roll. The haggis patty was crusty on the outside while tender on the inside. The richness was balanced with just the right amount of pepper and spice to bring out the umami in the dish. Topping the haggis was a perfect fried egg with a beautiful slightly runny orange yolk - local and fresh. The breakfast sandwich was completed by the soft freshly baked roll that captured the haggis and egg in it's light and fluffy center. While cafeteria style ordering, the food and teas/coffees were served hot and fast by happy, smiling servers. Definitely a success as we started out our busy day.
The food in the shop looked amazing. We stopped back after a day touring to secure the fixings for dinner, selecting three of the shops ready to cook stir-fry flavors - Moroccan Lamb, Chicken Curry, Pork in Black Bean sauce - all of which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Each of us in our party of five were so pleased with all of our selections that we are headed there in the morning for breakfast again on our way out of town. read more
