On July 15th my daughter and I went into Raskins to get some work done on a couple rings. My…read morehusband passed away on Monday and I wanted to have his wedding band resized into a thumb ring for me and have our original engagement ring reset as the diamond had fallen out. Upon going into the store we saw many workers in there but no one seemed to care they had a customer, we were finally acknowledged by an older lady with dark hair (I wish I would of got her name) she was very rude from the beginning even with us telling her what and why we needed it done, she said in the very beginning "I don't think we can do that, but I'll ask the jeweler" after going to the back with my rings for what seemed like forever she came back out and rudely told us if he did it you'd be able to tell where he cut it and that to reset my ring it would be over $400 - it wasn't about the price it was about the absolute rudeness we received from her from the minute we walked in. I had lost my husband 2 days before that, it was hard enough going out in public but when she showed no care in the world like we were just ruining her day by being there. We decided they did not deserve our business. We decided to check another nearby jeweler while we were down there. He was the nicest guy, he quoted us a price less than half of what Raskins quoted us and had it done in an hour! It was done perfectly and NO you can not tell where he had to cut it. He even saved the piece he cut out for me! He showed remorse in why we needed it done and actually gave a shit. Sorry Raskin but you have lost my business forever. I do not usually do reviews, as I also have businesses and hate bed reviews but you earned this one. Hire people who care and like their job! Sincerely, A morning family

It is not often you can walk into a store and find the husband and wife team still behind the desk after decades. In a world of big chain stores and amazon, it is truly refreshing to have an actual mom and pop place still in existence. She did a great job on my daughters ears. We came back a few months later and Mary had a magazine of all gold earing studs that were super cute. We got a pair of gold earrings for under $30. The value was great, the service was great, and the product was great. It seems to me most all the one star reviews they have are from folks who don't appreciate that they have Trump hats and things for sale, and I get that not everyone cares for that, but they are jewelers and it seems to me they should be rated on their quality of service and craftsmanship, which it top notch.

This is one of the nicer shops on Whiskey Row. What is different about it are 2 things that are big…read morein my book: One: It is not overrun with cheap Chinese made silly souvenirs and chachkies. Two: They carry a nice selection of "Dead Pawn" (aka " old pawn") Native American jewelry. Old pawn pieces can be less appealing or even a bit scary to shop for if you are new to Native American jewelry, or if you are looking for modern styling or highly polished pieces. However, while you will find all manner or recognizable styles in old pawn, you just may find one of a kind pieces too. That's the type I like. Another thing about shopping old pawn is that vendors are usually more open to accepting offers. A very nice couple operate this store. Although you will see a sign with the Ortega name at the Galloping Goose just a few shops away, they are not the same owners - they are cousins. Ortega's has been here a while and it surprised me that I had to submit a YELP listing. This is definitely a shop worth visiting.
