I accompanied my client to a conference that involved meeting with two teachers to discuss the status of my client's home schooling progress with her kids. I was blown away. Phoenix staff are there to provide guidance to families who home school their children and they also offer additional workshops, camps, etc. for kids. These teachers are extremely accommodating and are understanding of families who have complex circumstances, so rather than belittle them for struggling to follow a curriculum, they work together with the parents to problem solve issues and find reasonable solutions to ensure the kids are receiving necessary education in all subjects. The two teachers I interacted with were very kind, soft spoken and reassuring. My client was experiencing high anxiety because she felt she was failing her children by not comprehending all of the curriculum, making up some of her own projects for the kids instead and not following the correspondence between parents in the online chat room. After this meeting, my client walked away just glowing, as the teachers instilled confidence and developed trust with her. I've also toured the facility and could see that some of the education rooms were very well decorated and would definitely be stimulating for kids. It made the school I attended look pretty lame. If you or someone you know is home schooling children independently, I highly recommend reaching out to this amazing resource.

It sure would be nice if they could have before and after care from 8 - 5 like all the other camps…read moreso parents can go to work and not have to rush. Other camps charge $ 10.00 per day which is very reasonable

I was impressed, in spite of the mess, and thought.... what better way to nurture an inquiring mind than having a fun Mad Science birthday party. Michelle Marsbar of Mad Science gave me a list of available dates and times and I chose one for 3.30pm. I sent her an email with the venue address and reconfirmed the time, I was told Mad Science would arrive 15 minutes before the start of the show to set-up. The day arrived with 23 kids and some parents eagerly awaiting the Mad Scientist.......the waiting went on for a maddening 30 minutes......... surely there must have been a car crash or some other earth shattering event to explain lateness of this magnitude..........I was near tearing out my hair as the kids got restless and a mutiny began to unfold....Quickly I remembered the gummy bears and tooth-picks. I have to thank a review of Mad Science I had read previously, describing this same scenario of Mad science "no-show" and how she had saved the day by getting the kids to do a project of building molecules from gummy bears and tooth-picks. That would probably never happen to me, I thought....they seem so organized. Buying those $4 packs of gummy bears was the best decision I ever made for the party. It kept the kids occupied until DNA Dylan finally arrived. I expected to see DNA Dylan limp in with a bloody gash and tales of woe....but he cheerfully explained the delay was caused by..... his words "crazy scheduling". There was no earthly way he could have made it from the party in Chestermere down to Strathcona on time for 3.30pm. He did the best he could, but we had to cut the show down, the dry ice show I had paid extra $75 for was virtually non-existent......I had expected the show to end with a bang but it just fizzled out. What an anticlimax!! We hurried to get the kids their pizzas and they gobbled their cupcakes down in a rush. Even at that, I still had a bunch of angry parents asking why the party had gone on later than stated on the invitation. My son barely had a chance to blow out his birthday candles, we felt harried and harassed. I wrote the company to complain the very next day. Michelle Mars Bar apologized and said she was new in Calgary and had misjudged the distances between Chestermere and Strathcona. It shouldn't take rocket science to figure this out, all she needed was a map! This is the last I've heard from MadScience and now I know exactly why they have the "MAD" in their science. Next time I will save myself the head-ache and do the experiments myself.....so much for hiring "professionals".
