Had to schedule an emergency visit this morning and went to Yelp to look for their phone number because it wasn't saved in my contact list. I was shocked to see such a low score and bad experiences for such an awesome business so I felt obligated to provide my experiences. I've been taking my child to this location since he could visit the dentist and Kids Dental has been nothing less than spectacular. The staff and the dentists are friendly, personable and have always made my family feel welcome. We've followed the dentist's recommendation for oral hygiene and so far no cavities. One of the cooler features they offer is an emergency contact service for holidays and weekends. While playing around my son had one of his primary (baby) teeth knocked out and I was able to get in touch with Dr. Holt on the 4th of July holiday. He was patient with me, answered all of my questions and put me and my wife at ease. I know we are in good hands with Dr. Holy and Dr. Mindy and I think the current 2.5 star Yelp review rating is representative of the experiences we've had. What also let's me know this is a stable business is it's longevity. Our daycare provider took her daughter to this same dental office over 20 years ago and it's still going strong. That's longer than Yelp has been a business when word of mouth and radio advertising reigned supreme. I'm glad we found this dental office and I hope others give them the chance they deserve not relying solely on the currently low Yelp score. read more

We received an unexpected bill because they quoted it wrong. I took 3 children for a regular cleaning and one needed an x ray and some sealants. I asked if they took my insurance and for my quote ahead of time. Well, I paid them what was quoted, everything was fine. 7 months later, I receive a past due bill for $900! We never received any other communication prior to this, whatsoever. This has NEVER happened to me, and initially, I thought "oh, they must be mistaken". I don't know what their office staff is doing, and whether they know what they are doing either. It looks like the dental office doesn't agree to the adjusted rates that the insurance companies offer and so we, the patient are unknowingly paying for that huge slide! I was afraid I couldn't trust them and after this it seems that they aren't looking out for their clients. I regret leaving Mila Davis Dentistry to visit someplace closer. I never had these issues and I will most likely back to her. Seems to me they are looking to make money. The actual visit took VERY long, and the dentist somehow damaged some of the orthodontic work that my son had put in as he brought it out to me, in a set of tweezers. It feels like a scam! Unexpected bill because they quoted it wrong. They wanted me to take my son in on a different visit for additional panoramic xray, explaining that insurance would cover 100% and I don't have to pay. As precaution, I've asked several times to make sure, since i've been paying a lot out of pockets for both my kids dental services due to 1 of them has multiple cavities. All of sudden I received a bill making me pay for x-ray because insurance denied their claim. Seriously, I consent the service based on your quotes, agree to pay for services as it deems necessary. I did not ask the office to waive, I was asking for discount since I'm paying full amount out of pocket. I talked to manager to no avail resolution. Well, Lesson learned for me I guess. I need to be more careful in choosing the dental place and reading reviews more carefully. Update 6 mo after initial visit. I took my kids to a different dentist because this place burned of a whole year benefit in our first visit with them, so I refused to pay out of my pocket again for this greedy office. The new xray discovers that they screwed up on my son filling, it did not fill correctly thus causing an infection. Now he has an abscess with pus right next to their filling job, our option is now either remove his tooth or root canal. I'm very upset, a 6 year old does not deserve this kind of treatment. The care is very inconsistent. Dentists are constantly changing and communication between staff is very poor. One dentist advised us to take one very costly course of treatment, while another contradicted him. The result was the wrong appliance (which NEITHER dentist recommended) being poorly installed in our son's mouth. It fell out in less than two months and was completely ineffective. Our last appointment for an exam and cleaning took nearly two hours. My child was in a chair without a working tv and was very bored. There was ZERO communication with us from the dentist regarding the exam and none with our children either. The receptionist presented us with more costly treatment plans. I'm tired of feeling like cattle being herded through. There needs to be a focus on EDUCATING the children on how to care for their teeth, then a consult with parents on what was communicated. This was our first time coming in. They have a nice play area with tunnels and slides to help occupy the kids while you fill out forms and wait to be called back. My daughter is 2 years old this was her first dental visit. Lupe and Dr. Holt was amazing. They were so welcoming and made my daughter feel comfortable. I have been taking my son to this office since he was 3 years old. I regretfully say that he has had "unnecessary" dental work. I'm a nurse myself and something told me to check and get a second opinion on his X-rays. I went to one of the best pediatric dentist in the metroplex and agreed with half of the treatment plan and half he said not to do it. We will watch it. It's so sad because my son has had so many fillings, and his permanent tooth is stronger than what they put in there. Also they are very pushy about the 360 X-ray which in my opinion is not necessary unless you have had some trauma to your teeth. They cringe when I say "no thank you". Wow, what polarized reviews. Today is the second time we've come for a regular cleaning, and it's just the best experience I could imagine. Having read other reviews, I might get a second opinion on any serious work to be done, but they are just wonderful for basic cleanings. My son is 3, and he used to be terrified of the dentist. Not anymore. This place makes him excited to go. Obviously movies during cleaning and a play area are cool and enticing and kid-friendly, but the people are also just awesome. Today he had his first x-rays, and he was clearly dubious. But Tori coached him through it and did a great job, and we got all angles shot successfully. She was great with him. So patient. Then Diane did a fantastic job cleaning his teeth. She was also just great with him. Really top-notch bedside manner with little ones. Watching Bob the Builder while someone's scraping on your teeth, then polishing, and even flossing - totally fine the whole time. Then Dr Jeff Holt finished the appointment with the ol official dentist review. I like him and his details. He's good at explaining everything. Then little prizes after? Perfect! We had a great first experience here. It was my three year olds first visit. I didn't know what to expect. I was nervous but confident this would go decent. The staff was patient and my kiddo loved it! They have a play area the kids can run around in which is great then a movie is played during the cleaning. My kid was totally into the movie( there were a ton to choose from) and the screen is in a position the child has to lay down (genius) it was a quick process once they got started. Our appt didn't start until about 45 min after the scheduled time but hoping since we were first time clients, next time is smoother with our information being in the system now. Avoid using this dentist as they are very fraudulent. I took my children there a few months ago and provided all of my insurance information to the lady to verify before our appointment. I was informed when we arrived the amount our insurance would cover and our portion out of pocket. The lady at Kids Dental even provided me a copy of the estimate knowing fully they were out of network and the insurance would not cover this amount indicated on her estimate. Later that day, I was told about the other dental work that needed to be done for my son. Again insurance was verified or so I thought. 2 weeks ago I got a bill for almost $900. The insurance paid about $100 because Kids Dental is out of the network and the Kids Dental knew about this as she confirmed this when we called to inquire about the charges. I am now responsible for the full amount. When we called Kids Dental, the lady said, yes we are out of their network however NEVER was that information disclosed to me prior to having this work done. I even called my insurance company that stated they verified all my information and knew exactly what was covered before the service was provided. I feel as if Kids Dental lied or should I say withheld important information for me to make an educated decision. I understand ultimately it is my responsibility for not doing my additional homework but I trusted what they told me (there has to be some trust betweeen healthcare providers and consumers). Kids Dental in Carrollton, TX does not live by ethical standards and I would not take your kids there. This is my very first review on here. I normally check Yelp before ever going to a restaurant. So I was surprised to see Dentist offices being reviewed. I just have to say my husband and I have had such a terrible experience at Kids Dental. Please DO NOT take your kids here. The office staff is misleading when it comes to billing. They tell you "What you can expect to pay" and have you initial off an amount only to later bill you for under estimations. My husband and I are now stuck paying an additional $700 when we already paid $600 and that was just for a cap and extraction of a tooth. Buyers beware!! I took my 3 children for a regular cleaning back in June and all 3 needed some sealants and of course some preventive sealants. They quoted was $534.60 because my insurance didn't cover the preventive sealants and some other things. I refused to do the preventive sealants so only had to pay $284.60. When I took my children back for the procedure they ended up charging me $534.60 so I asked why? They did the preventive sealants to 1 of my children which I've never approved it. I paid the $284.60. 5 months after I've received an invoice for $250 so I decided to call to find out why I own that amount. They were suppose to call me back and send me an email with the info which they never did. Then, I've received a 2nd noticed saying my invoice is past due and if I don't pay it will go to collection. Well, they ended up charging me for their mistake and because I said why should I pay for your mistakes? They answer was well you can bring your son and we'll remove the preventive sealants why would you have something you don't want to pay for? Really???? I never authorized this procedure. I don't trust kids dental anymore. They don't even let you come inside with the children to see what they doing, they are charging us for things we don't ask for and we don't even know if they are really taking care of our children. We have been patients of Kids Dental for the past 8 years. They had a very good practice with great people but not anymore. Our recent visit will be our last visit. In our last routine cleaning, it took 2 hours. Normally 30 maybe even 40 minutes for all of my kids to go through their cleaning. They all go in at the same time. I inquired why it was taking so long. I was told it was because of braces. As my wife informed me, it turns out that braces have no impact on the cleaning whatsoever. She is usually out in 20 - 30 minutes. I asked my kids how long they waited in the chair before anyone saw them. It was intermittent and then long pauses. Basically they were understaffed and did not bother to be honest about it. I would rather hear that they were understaffed then some other excuse. Also they did not bother to inform us that our dentist left the practice. We were under the impression she was still there. She was the only reason why we were going to this practice. I did not appreciate how this was handled but rest assured, Kids Dental will have more bandwidth for future patients since they will not have my future business. read more

Dr. Holt was my dentist when I was a child! I now I have a 15month old little girl and I didn't think twice about where she would go for her first dentist appointment. I remember when I was little I loved going to his office!! I could watch whatever I wanted on the TV - if they didn't have it - Dr. Holt told me he would get it for next time - and he did!! We just visited for Emma's first appointment and as expected his office was clean - kid friendly and the staff was amazing !! In case you don't have time to read the novel below regarding my experience with Dr. Holt the takeaway is that he is amazing. You can tell that he and his staff not only enjoy their jobs but are passionate about what they do. I received a call one late afternoon from my child's after school care. There was a fall and a tooth had made contact with the gym floor which is never good. Half of one of the front teeth was missing. Thankfully we were able to find it. However, as our family dentist had just retired, I had to frantically begin searching for a doctor who could see us that day. Unfortunately it was about 4:30pm when most offices are wrapping up for the day. After making a dozen phone calls I finally found an office that could see us that day. I went to the office and was not impressed. They informed me that I could not go back with my child. The dentist didn't allow parents in the room so feeling uncomfortable I gathered my things and left. Once we got back in the car I sat in the parking lot looking up more dentist offices and ran across Kids Dental. I called them and explained the situation to the receptionist. I was pretty frazzled at that point and she was very nice and polite. They were about to close and I was a good 45 minutes away but factoring in it was pouring down rain I had no idea how long it would take to get there. The receptionist put me on hold and the next voice I hear was Dr. Holt - my hero! Dr. Holt sat on the phone with me for about 15 minutes asking me questions about the state of my child's mouth and tooth. He was extremely patient and didn't just ask questions but told me why he was asking so I would know exactly what to look for. Dr. Holt said that the appointment could wait until the next day based on my feedback and he put me back on the phone with the receptionist who made an appointment for the next morning. We have since been to see Dr. Holt two times. His office staff is always very polite and friendly. Dr. Holt is patient and caring. He put my child at ease immediately. The wait time is always reasonable and my child loves the DVD's selection! I have referred everyone to know to his office and continue to sing his praises. read more

beware !! they do a lot of unnecessary dentistry. I was told my son needed 2 visits for all his cavities and sealants to be fixed. I got suspicious when I heard all the parents there that day being told the same thing, Numerous cavities and sealants and multiple visits. Then I found out Dr. Holt gave him the exam instead of our usual dentist and our usual dentist had retired. My son is 16 so I took him to my dentist for a second opinion. He needed none of the treatment plan Kid's dental said he did. We've been going to kid's dental since his first dental visit and I'm appalled thinking about how much unnecessary dental work he has had to go through. I had one other occasion a few years back where Dr. Holt recommended pulling 2 baby teeth in his treatment plan. Dentists are expensive, so you have to take that into consideration when reading reviews on them. Most people just don't like paying that much. With that being said, I thought it was important to write a review that is not entirely about the money. 1. I took my 7 and 3 year old daughters to them in October for their yearly exam. We have been with them for about 3 years. They told me she need some work done and gave me an estimate. When I got home my husband stated that they used our old dental insurance plan and we have a better plan now. He called them and they said they would re-send the estimate. They also stated that our insurance plan was hard to file. Seriously??? A week later we get the estimate in the mail...the same out of date one. He called again and they said they would send it. This happend 3 more times. It was like they just copied it each time. The kicker was mid-November they called us to ask if we were going to make her appointment to do the work. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING ON YOU TO SEND US THE ESTIMATE SINCE OCTOBER! (I'm glad my husband got the call!). They lady said they would email it right away...they did...they send the old quote again! Geeze people, get it right! We gave up. 2. Two years ago they did root canals on two of my 7 year old daughter's upper teeth. Late in November she came home from school with a fever and not feeling well. This time I just took her to my dentist since they cannot get their stuff together at Kid's Dental. My dentist told me that she has an apses under one of the caps where the root canal was done and referred us to a children's dentist. We went to another children's dentist and the doctor told us that the caps that was placed over the teeth were the wrong size and it is blocking her other teeth from coming out. This also caused her to loose 50% of the space where the adult teeth is suppose to come out from under the caps. We had to get her under anesthesia and get two spacers inserted after they pulled those two teeth. I was so mad. They made my 7 year old daughter go through hell because they could not size caps correctly. Yes they have a McDonalds play area and pretty bright lights, but it is not worth it. It looks like they spend all their money on making the place pretty instead of hiring doctors and staff that knows what to do. If you decide to go here, good luck to you! read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. I made an appointment for my 17 month old to have his first cleaning and exam. Because they are out of network with so many providers, at the time of making the appointment, I requested the code and dollar amount they would bill my insurance provider. I called my insurance provider to verify that the code and dollar amount were okay and would be fully covered. During the appointment, they examined the few teeth he has, brushed them and applied a fluoride treatment. These were all things I was told they were going to do. Afterwards, they billed my insurance company for two codes and dollar amounts, neither matching what I was told when making the appointment, for almost twice the amount. After my insurance provider paid their regular portion, the dental office billed me for the balance. When I called to dispute the bill they threw every excuse at me; I wrote down the wrong code, I called another office, I just didn't want to pay the bill, my insurance company mislead me, I misrepresented what information I wanted when I made the appointment, they don't provide codes over the phone, the code was wrong for my child's age. Basically, they refuse to admit they unintentionally committed fraud against me by telling me something and then doing something else. I requested the dentist and owner of the office to call me but was told very bluntly he would not because he doesn't handle billing, considering it's his office he should know how his clients are being treated. I've contacted my insurance provider, the State board of dental examiners and the BBB. On a side note, they made me wait 40 minutes to be seen, I should have known then they didn't care about their clients. Update: The business manager called me and forgave my balance which was completely satisfactory for me. She seemed genuinely concerned about my experience. read more

I called to reschedule my son's appointment 28 hours before the appointment as something came up at his school and they asked for $75 as rescheduling fee. I have heard of cancellation fee but never a rescheduling fee and before 24 hrs of appointment. Very rude staff !! very disappointed. read more

My kids have been coming here since they were 1. At first I was skeptical about the place because YES, they are pricey and YES, you can't go back with the kids after the first visit but I have been pleasantly surprised!!! My kids love this place. They can't wait for their dentist appointments. My daughter had a cavity filled and she was excited about it!?! They definitely have tons of experience with kids and put kids at ease. There us a playground in the waiting room and then there are flatscreens above each treatment chair. There had to be over 100 movies to pick from! At their new location you can see/watch them as they work on your kids teeth. Their dentist came to speak to me as they technicians wrapped up their appointments and patiently answered my questions. I have a 17 month old who I've taken here twice. Once for his first year visit and once recently when he had his first major accident falling at the park and chipped his front tooth... in half! The doctor was so good with him and although I was upset I had to come in for a chipped tooth; they made the experience as quick and painless as possible. They provide videos for the children to watch and a toy after their visit. The entire staff is very friendly and has incredible bedside manner. read more

I have spent over 1000.00 getting my 6 year old daughters treatment complete and when I tried to schedule additional work I was just told that unless I fully sedate and have all treatments done at once that they will not perform the remaining treatments. Because my daughter was previously given valum for sedation and was squirmy during procedures they will not do treatments unless I elect to use IV sedation and spend all the money at once instead of splitting up separate treatments. Basically saying if you do not have all of the money to do this now we will not help you out all with any of her teeth. read more

I agree with the person who said ZERO stars. This establishment needs to be reported to the BBB, and I think I will do just that. My 7 yr old has been going there for 4 years and has had numerous cavities all requiring extensive precautions as my child has sever anxiety. We did Valium and nitrous oxide and still severe anxiety. The last appointment I was told he had 5 more cavities! This is after he has been tortured by the dentist filling 7 previous cavities. My point to all of this is that Dr Marianne Chingbingyong (yes that's her real last name) is a "Tiger Mom" acting as a sweet dentist. After my poor baby cried and writhed in pain for over an hour, she came and got me to tell me how upset he was and that she knew for a fact he was "acting out" and that I needed to reinforce her. So I did...only for her to continue to berate him in front of me to the point where I shut her down. She SHOULD NOT be a pediatric dentist as she has no empathy for terrified children in a situation with drills and metal equipment and water being sprayed in your face, down your throat and gurgling you to the point of gagging. Furthermore, I took my child to a 2nd opinion to find out just how accurate these supposed 5 fillings were and if they needed to be filled with urgency. Guess what?? There is only one actual cavity and from the looks of the previous work they were ALL unnecessary. Really?? This group is a bunch of crooks who have zero integrity working with children or their parents and obviously don't care about anything but making money. I can relate to all of the "negative" reviews as most all of those situations happened to us as well over the last four years and I accepted it as truth. Well not anymore!!! I just hope that this review will keep other poor children OUT of that office and environment. I am very hesitant to recommend this place to anyone unless you have a medical/dental background. We have been going for 3 years only because it is super easy to get my boys (ages 4,10) their teeth cleaned. We moved to Texas when my oldest was 7 and he never had any issues with his teeth, no cavities, nothing. We moved here and I am told he has multiple cavities that need to be filled. I am suspicious and send all X-rays to my father who is a dentist. He says wait and see they are baby teeth. So I say wait and see. I schedule an appointment for sealants and without my consent they sedate my child for these sealants (which you DO NOT need to be sedated for) and then bully me into filling one of the cavities because "he is already sedated". I was SO angry! But like I said it is super easy to get their teeth cleaned so I kept going. Every visit they say there is something else that needs to be done to my older child, then we visit my parents and are told nope. Finally the last straw, he needed sealants again this last week. I made sure that he would not be sedated, checked up front, checked the paperwork. They come to get him and then come back out to ask if he has eaten anything because they are GOING to sedate him!! Again without consent! No thank you will not be going back. Strongly recommend getting a second opinion for all dental work that they tell you your child needs, this place is taking advantage of you. read more
