What an amazingly eccentric and beautiful park!
This space isn't new, it isn't cutting edge or shiny. It has a few rough edges, but whatever it lacks in wow factor, it makes up for with undeniable charm. If Wes Anderson made a movie based in a park, it would undoubtably be here - the place has quirky hipsterdom out the wazoo.
Not to mention it's run by an incredible group of folks that dedicate their time to working with children with disabilities. All in all, there are a lot of nostalgic fuzzy feelings happening within these gates.
From the hilarious birds nest with the giant comical tongue, to the pirate ship, teepees and tire swings - this is your five year old self's dream (or, if you have a little one... theirs). This space is under threat of being shut down and it truly would be a loss to the community. There aren't a lot of places like this tucked in and around these days and it is well worth doing what you can to preserve the memories.
I don't live in the area, or even in the city but I was absolutely touched by the character and stories surrounding this play space. Definitely worth checking out. Definitely worth pitching in. Love. Love. Love. read more
