When we…read morecame in to tour the school towards the end of the day at the beginning of this year, we came in towards end of the day and waited for awhile until other parents were done picking their kids up. Then, we were told that we need to come back another time because they didn't have enough staff as some of them were sick. (That's fine but I wished they either gave us a call, as a courtesy, or told us right away to come back another time). We called them another time and were told we have to submit the paperwork to put on the waitlist (I wish they told us earlier) and decided to give them another chance and came back another time to give them our application for 1 of our kid. We knew the waitlist was long and came back another time to give them another application for our 2nd kid. As of now, we haven't heard back from them. Of course, we were lucky enough to find spots at other daycares who accepted 2 of our kids. However, we felt like we were profiled and ignored. That's quite unprofessional. I talked to another parent who had good experience with this daycare but we did not.

I worked at Columbia for about six months and that was the worst six months I ever had in my life , Columbia treats their staff member so poorly! We were always understaffed and always treated like crap from other staff members including the MOT!! Which is known as janitor people at Columbia Elementary School!! I was a yard duty at that school and seeing how many kids got bullied beat up on and in fistfight at such a young age and that school never did anything, no follow through no punishments nothing just sent right back out to recess!! it disgusts me!!! I saw so many concerned parents because they had no idea what was going on at that school because the school does not inform parents about anything!!! Usually at an elementary school it's three strikes you're out when it comes to discipline I have never seen a child control the teachers so badly in my life just because his mom and dad worked at that school!! I also worked with a few elderly people that were so beyond kind hearted and we're poorly treated like garbage! The janitors also like to walk around and say that it is not their job to pick up garbage and to do janitor things! My main concern here is that there has been so many staff members children, parents that have been concerned about their kids in the school and everyone contacts the superintendent for help and the superintendent will not do a single thing about anything!!! The principal at that school don't even get me started with that one I have heard her say so many mean things to children telling children to shut up telling children they're stupid I have no idea how that principal is a principal!!! I will continue to post bad reviews so people can read them and see how the school is and they can continue to take my review down but I will continue to post and continue to get it out there because this school draws so much concern to me there's so much more in depth that I would like to say but that would be cutting into children's privacy and I would not want to do that for the privacy of the parent and the children!!! We had talent shows, plays and the most amazing Halloween Carnival every year. The stage became a haunted house, created by the 8th graders. It was always so SPOOKY! Especially to me as a little girl. Once we became big 6th graders, we had the opportunity to participate in ski trips every Wednesday to Bear Valley. How many schools provide that? It is a great elementary school and I'm so fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend.

This school is precariously held together by yarn, passive-aggressive "conversations," and unpaid labor. Even if you are parenting on easy mode with a picture-perfect neurotypical child, you should know that this school pays their teachers very little, loses them frequently, and then often scrambles to fill that teaching position at the last minute. They do not magically find someone with a teaching credential to fill that job, they just find someone from their in-crowd who says yes. Your child could start their school year with a teacher who has no real background in education and standards outside of Waldorf's extremely insular world. However, if you happen to have a neurodivergent child, I would urge you to stay away from this school. My son was attending the early childhood program but I was frequently being called to pick him up early for behavior issues. I was in constant communication with his teacher and others at the school begging for help and direction. We were trying everything we could at home, but my kid was clearly struggling, and no one quite understood why. Despite supposedly being early childhood experts, Waldorf teachers and staff NEVER ONCE mentioned that maybe we should get an evaluation for autism/ADHD/etc. Instead they recommended diet changes and reiki. I wish I were joking. This cost us years of figuring out what was really going on. Eventually, they "asked us" to leave the school (but not until after I had finished a really big project for their Halloween production!!!). We were strongly socially ostracized afterwards, in an already small town. They have absolutely no support services available and seem to have no interest in providing them. A parent to a Waldorf student who works locally as a special education teacher in public schools even volunteered to help provide some support for students with special needs at Sierra Waldorf. The school turned her down! Waldorf schools are based on the works of Rudolf Steiner, who held some pretty problematic beliefs, including eugenics. I guess Sierra Waldorf is staying true to their roots. Before we joined the school, Waldorf looked a bit like a cult to me based on the behavior of the people I knew who were already in it. Now that I've seen it on the inside, that conviction stands stronger than ever.

For about $20 you get a bag of dirt to pan with guaranteed gold in it, a panning lesson, and access to the panning area for the whole day. That's right. This isn't one and done. It's for the entire day. The lesson is fast and furious, but you get the idea by the end. If you don't, just wait for someone else to get theirs and listen in for a refresher. The speed of the lesson and the fact there's no one there to ask questions after is the only reason I'm taking a star off. That said, you can go inside and ask for help, but that takes you away. The man who taught us was kind and gentle with the lesson, and he made sure the kids found their gold. The look on their faces was priceless! I truly thought they'd be done after that one pan but they were so captivated by the idea of finding treasure that I'm sure we spent at least an hour sifting through the sand for gems. This was money well spent, and if you're vacationing in the area, I would highly recommend this be in your plans.
