Because of extremely extenuating circumstances where my family and I were shelter-less, I worked here and the most I was paid was $13 an hour with inconsistent hours and Nina herself being very negligent with properly making sure payments were made. The ratio of students to tutor was wildly unfair, being a 7:1 ratio most of the time, Additionally, while working here I have watched young children being verbally abused by Nina and Nina for some reason felt that she reserved the right to hold children and tutors far past the end of the day, simply because she was angry. I have been residually yelled by Nina herself, despite keeping a kind and polite relationship with her throughout the work experience overall. Nina does not always have a functional bathroom available for tutors nor for the children who attend the tutorial, which is a bare requirement when it comes to human rights because all humans need to use the bathroom and are not always in control of it, especially pre-K-2 children. I have also watched Nina's unnecessary and unjustified yelling towards very young children end up with a child having a visible panic attack in the tutorial, which was the most concerning feature to me. Quality of curriculum is simply not there either. Nina utilizes very old workbooks from decades ago which no longer follow the standard of the current New York State exams and assessments. She also advises tutors to simply make sure the students' homework gets done, even if that means using answer keys and giving them the answers. I have watched her manually write in the answers for students. I have also been advised to not spend any time on explaining answers to students as she feels it is too much noise and she basically wants it to be a quiet room of all the students doing their homework. THIS IS NOT TUTORING THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING Additionally, one of the students I worked with experienced an allergic reaction at the tutorial due to unmonitored candy being shared which Nina did not take any responsibility for. Overall- very hurt having worked here and though I have reached out to Nina multiple times about concerns, she has hung up on me and denied me the ability to express my feelings. Definitely feels more like an unhealthy and unjustly-paying daycare center, than it does any type of education nonetheless safe place for any children to be without their family members. Additionally- I found it a little alarming how there were absolutely no students at this tutorial who were Black or Caribbean.

I am not sure if she still runs it, but she did when I was there several years ago. If you do like the Kumon program, go to this location because I definitely trust Madhuri. If the Kumon program does not work for you or for your child, don't go here. No one is forcing you. I personally preferred a place like Huntington. But I will say I would never have a received a 5 in AP Calc in high school without my Kumon experience back in Hoffman Estates in the 90s and early 2000s.

I sent my children there today for a "supposedly" orientation and placement test at 1:00pm because I was sent an email about a 2 week free trial promo. Upon arrival, the lady at the front desk said this location does not offer the 2 week free trial. Instead of helping me or honoring my time wasted there, she just didn't do anything to help my family out. It was a Sunday wasted. They didn't assess my children and my family left empty handed. No trial was given. My son was disappointed he couldn't take a 30 min assessment today at Kumon due to the incompetency between communications within the organization. I would not recommend going to this place. I can only imagine how the teaching staff's behavior is when the front desk receptionist and Mrs. Wang's (owner) clearly does not care about their customers. They probably don't care about students either.
