Gleaming new, done up in Halloween black and orange (all the chairs carefully alternated at each…read moretable). It's fairly dark inside, though there's seating out front and a patio in the back. The counter to order from is towards the back of the place - a kind of odd design, as you have to walk through one seating area, past the bathrooms and a stairway heading to an upstairs area, and you still can't see the counter until you're past all those, because it's tucked behind a wall back by the kitchen. You place your order and are given one of those more and more ubiquitous hockey pucks that vibrate and buzz when your order's ready. They fry to order here, and warn you it will be about 15 minutes... it was more like 25, despite being the only order they were making at the time. So, what I liked most about the leg-thigh combo were the fries and the coleslaw. (230 pesos/$6.25 without beverage.) The former are cut in a long, sort of channel, or canoe shape, and are nicely crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, as they should be. The latter, for a change here in BA, not sweet, but made "right". The two mini-arepas were just okay - kind of chewy. The dipping sauce for the chicken is a big pass - basically tasted like a honey-garlic salad dressing. So, on to the main event, the chicken. First off, over-fried, you can see it's bordering on burnt in places. The chicken inside was still juicy, but unseasoned. My guess is they don't marinate it or brine it, or even dust it with some spices before coating it in flour and egg - I'd guess, double coated. And the coating is seasoned, as best I could tell, with just salt, and just edging to too much. The skin and batter aren't really crispy, they're kind of chewy, like the arepas, which is odd, especially given how darkly fried they are - I can only guess that the oil temperature is too low. So, I'm not wowed, but I ate it all, and loved the fries and coleslaw. It gets an "okay". Alright, so not everything this time around was a winner. They claim this as "American style fried chicken", though my bet is that this is really more of a Venezuelan (or maybe Colombian) interpretation of that. Yes, yes, I know those are both in the Americas, but I'm taking their claim as referring to more traditional U.S. norteamericano style, just from the way they phrase it.

Nothing else but it is possible to add some salsa ln the side. The meat is not bad but the arepa is extremely boring and doesn't look appetizing. I feel like I liked it more the past trip than I did this last time. The La Negra arepa was kinda bland. They have a lot of decent hot sauces there which are greatly appreciated as hot food is hard to find in Argentina, but I really have to rely on the sauces for most of the flavor, so I can't really rate this too highly. The arepas are kinda dry and not that flavorful, and maybe I'm spoiled from my girlfriend's cooking, but it could be better. I'm grateful that Palermo is offering more non-traditional Argentinian food to give some variety of dining options, and with all the salsas they have here you can make yourself a good meal in any case. Still looking for my favorite Venezuelan restaurant in town though...

I wish I had seen the yelp reviews before coming to this place…read more My family and I were strolling around the streets of BA when we stumbled across this cute cafe. What initially drew us was the vast options, welcoming ambiance, and very affordable dishes. However, all this was quickly swept away by the service and food. The panini and coffee I ordered were decent; however, the red velvet cake was not good. The cake was hard and didn't taste like red velvet, and it seemed as if the cake was left out for a few days. I came with a group of 5. For a few paninis and croissants, it took us over an hour to get our food. Initially we got our 3 paninis and eggs and kept wondering where our other food were. We saw other people coming in later than us and getting their food earlier/leaving the cafe before we even got our food. When we asked the waiter about our croissants and ham/cheese croissant sandwich, she came us the check and didn't even realize she had forgotten it- it turns out the kitchen had forgotten our order... They quickly made it and brought it out to us in the next 5 min.... Ridiculous. This cafe has potential because of the decent panini and coffee, but the staff needs better trainings. For what we ordered, it should not take that long to get our food and the waiters should not have forgotten. I am very disappointed.

There were 5-6 servers, yet everything was lagging. I ordered the alma panini, which was very underwhelming. There were no grill marks and it looked like it was just slapped together with little effort and love. I came with my family, and they forgot two of our orders: 3 croissants and a ham and cheese croissant. They didn't even realize it because they came with the check before we received all of our dishes. We also tried their red velvet cake... big mistake. It had definitely been out for at least 2 days. Instead of being fluffy and soft, the cake part was hard and the cream cheese tasted weird. The service itself is also disappointing. Not once did anyone check on our table to see if everything was okay. The workers don't seem to enjoy their job, often talking to each other instead of working together. The only reason I'd come back is for their coffee. And if in the offset chance that I did, I'd need to mentally prepare myself to wait 25+ minutes to wait because that's how long it takes for a cup of coffee with milk to be served here. I don't recommend this place past window looking. Or unless you have all day to spare for mediocre food and drinks.

Super concept. Complete meals ready to take home and heat up. Or you can dine in. How convenient!…read moreThe owner, Moses, noticed us struggling with our Spanish and immediately suggested, "Is English better?" It was a relief because our Spanish is still limited and we had a lot of questions. We have been passing by the place for about a year, always vowing to check it out, but we always seem to have a destination and kept putting it off. I've had a cold for several days and wasn't up to dining out until the late hours, so we checked Yelp, by map, and found Vinto Tinto, we we knew is just a couple of blocks from our house. Fortunately, it's open until 9:30 PM. There were several people dining in (counter seating) and others coming and going, taking their orders home. A good sign, we figured, and we were right. We discovered that many of the entree items are packaged/sealed in plastic bags; stored in a refrigerator. All you have to do is heat them in water, cut open the bag and serve. We boiled some water, turn off the heat and let the bag sit for 7 minutes. Perfect! I noticed that he has wine available for dining in, but I'm not sure if it's available to take out. If not, who cares ... there are stores selling wine within a block or two no matter which direction you go. In addition to the albondigas, we also ordered half of a tortilla espanola, a slice of mushroom quiche and a very tasty mix of green beans/carrots/pears. I was impressed that the vegetables were not overcooked and could nice stand to re-heating. Everything had a unique, complex flavors. The sauce that the albondigas were swimming in was divine; dee, rich flavor. We also bought some bondiola (pork shoulder) to have another evening. We're so happy to have found this in our neighborhood. We'll definitely be going back again!
