Was super excited to try Susie Wong's and my excitement was definitely valid…read more It was a fairly busy evening and the first thing I noticed was how lovely the staff were. Our waiter was cheeky and lovely and attended to our every need. We decided to go the sharing plate route, wanting to try as many dishes as possible. First up was Ma Hor and excellent start with lots of flavours, Red Curry Lamb Ribs were absolutely amazing with the lamb falling off the bone and so ridiculously tender and with a mouth-watering sauce. I love the no BS wine list very easy to read and a champion at matching your food. Next was the Cheung fun with prawns and the in my opinion blue ribbon winning Oxtail dumplings - YOU MUST TRY THESE! I loved how we had a view of the kitchen and it was certainly a treat to see the very talented Daniel Sullivan at work. The interior has a warm feel and makes you want to be there all night eating, drinking and talking. I don't often do desserts but when I find a place where in my opinion every dish we ate was as stunning as our's, I felt dessert was warranted. We had the Durian Tart with Jasmine Sorbet, yes again delicious and our waiter matched the dessert with L'armangia Moscato d'Asti from Italy and was a perfect way to end our dining experience at Susie Wong's. Next time we go I'll be trying the mains for sure. Loved Susie Wong's and I advise that you arrange a visitation here very soon!

Not the best location but it was worth the drop in. No queue, so we got seated immediately. I started with a cocktail, She's so fine, which is an Asian version of a mojito, substituting sake for rum. It was delicious with elderberry and lime leaves, very refreshing! My group decided on the chef's selection for a 6-course meal ($50/pp) as we could not decide since everything on the menu looked tasty. Starting with the spicy pork relish on pineapple, a quick bite, then onto two kinds of dumplings - pork/chive and veggie. All very good. We started wondering if we would get more than just nibbles when the main courses arrived. Chargrilled lamb ribs with tender meat that fell off the bone and a flavourful spice. I especially enjoyed the crispy Cambodian chicken wings with srirachi honey (be careful, it bites back). It was accompanied by the warm mushroom salad with sautéed greens and a side of rice. Then came the Massaman beef curry which was a warm, welcome bowl of goodness. Finally, we ended on a sweet note with two kinds of dessert. The special caramelised ginger flan and the creamy yoghurt with pistachio floss. Amazing! We let none go to waste. To top it off, we received great service. Friendly, attentive manager and well paced dishes. We were even invited to their big 2-year anniversary party. What a treat! If you don't want to wait long for a tasty meal and good service, you can't go wrong with Susie Wong! :)

This is a highly underrated restaurant on Glenferrie Rd that deserves a lot more recognition. I'll…read morestart by saying that Hong Kong style food is a lot different than mainland Chinese food. Hong Kong is a very cosmopolitan city and has been ruled by Britain for many years. A lot of HK-style restaurants take Western food and puts their own unique Chinese spin on things. If you order Fried Chicken Wings, don't expect classic BBQ sauce or anything like that. With that said, I think it's a very interesting combination of Western and Eastern and is worth a shot! Ambiance: From the look of it, you wouldn't expect much. There aren't many people inside and the decor is uninspiring. Customer Service: Great! The man who served us was very nice, remembered our orders perfectly, and even stopped by frequently to refill our free tea. Food: The food itself is only about 3 stars but because of the cheap prices and excellent service, I decided to bump this place up to 4. When I say cheap prices, I don't say it lightly. Pretty much every meal is UNDER 15 dollars, and most of them is at an average of 11 dollars. We ordered... ~ Fried Chicken Wings & Chips - The chips were decent and so was the chicken, although I felt the chicken could use a bit more season. However, it was fried to perfection, retained juiciness, and the meat was lovely. I'm just used to more pepper seasoning on HK-style Fried Chicken Wings. ~ Sizzling Black Pepper Steak Meal - This meal came with rice, veggies, soup, and a choice of drink, which overall is 14 dollars. The plate actually did come out sizzling. My boyfriend ordered this one, but I tried a bit and can report that it's quite yummy! ~ Baked Portuguese Curry w/ Chicken over Spaghetti - This meal has the option to be with spaghetti or rice. I feel it would've been a lot better with rice, but my portion was quite filling and delicious. I have had better HK-style Baked Portuguese Curry w/ Chicken, but for the price of 10 dollars, I was quite impressed. --- Overall, I am a fan of Cafe De Taite. The food isn't wow-amazing, but it is still decently delicious and is at great value. The menu is very extensive so there's bound to be something that fits your fancy. Have a shot!

Attended us very often to clear plates and refill water. Only one minor hiccup was when the lady reached across the table to serve the beer rather than coming around but this was very minor. The food soon came after ordering and the salads came first. The young papaya salad came first. The flavour was fresh, probably because it was opening day but lacking interesting and exciting Vietnamese flavours although the chilli added a nice spice. Unfortunately a bit boring 4/10. Next came the Vietnamese slaw which came with Grilled Organic Chicken. Both were $8, the chicken only came with 5 pieces which is not worth what we paid for. The slaw was all cabbage and didn't have any fish sauce or lime which are classic vietnamese flavours. The beef and the fish came next although nicely cooked very miniscule. Worried that they might've ordered too less ingredients on the day. The was no pho available, very disappointed. Didn't think the restaurant was ready to open. Also most of the staff was well trained but some seemed clueless and had no idea where they were going. One of the good points was the curry of the moment which had classic vietnamese/malaysian flavours: was very delicious 9/10 and also ample supply of drinks, might've mistaken this for a bar rather than restaurant. Vietnamese coffee also was tasty. All in all this restaurant had spent a lot of money on renovating this shop but to be perfectly honest was very busy and was not prepared to open today with limited supply of ingredients and seriously to run out of pho by lunch time is ridiculous!!! Very disappointed and will not go back in a hurry

St Cloud's design is sleek. The white painted brick exterior carrying through to the interior with its contrasting white ceiling, black concrete floor and black tiled bar and counter areas. The furnishings also follow a white/black mix. Hanging light bulbs and large folding windows fill the space with light, though just enough light to keep the lower level intimate. The restaurant is split across two levels; the downstairs dining space with small tables and benches and the main bar, and the upstairs dining space with larger group tables, a second bar and an outside deck with more small tables and a long bench. Hanging and potted plants are scattered throughout to add a splash of colour and the upstairs deck's long bench doubles as a lush planter box. The food menu is split into two halves, lunch and dinner, with each half further divided into various sections. Lunch dishes include street food, such as banh mi, spring rolls and chicken ribs, rice paper rolls, pho, salad and noodle bowls and desserts. The dinner menu follows the typical Asian fusion-style of small dishes and large dishes. Rice paper rolls and salads are also on offer. Small dishes include banh knot pancakes and BBQ scallops. The large dishes are the highlight with giant sharing portions of pork belly, lemongrass beef short ribs and claypot curry. There is a banquet menu option with a random selection of dishes for those that cannot decide what to choose. Dessert options change weekly are not printed on the menu. This visit featured the beef short ribs which were incredibly tender and flavoursome. Carrots, potatoes and herbs are tossed into the large tray that the dish is served in. A selection of small dishes were also ordered and included the prawn and pork spring rolls, chicken wings, banh knot and chicken peanut rice paper rolls. The dishes were all of a good quality with a mix of flavours, however many of the small dishes included the same sides of beanshoots, lettuce leaves and dipping sauce, which felt a bit over-repeated. Dessert on this visit was a little spectacular; lime and coconut panna cotta with lychee, plum and meringue. A wonderful dish with tropical, citrus and sweet mix of flavours combined with contrasting creamy and crunchy textures. The drinks menu is plentiful with a range of beers, wines, cocktails, slushies and juices. Coffee is from St Ali, hot chocolate from Elixir and tea from Larsen and Thompson and Matcha Maiden. Service was great during the Saturday night dinner period, which was surprisingly busy at 6pm. Hawthorn has had quite a few quality openings recently and St Cloud is a welcomed and already popular addition to the neighbourhood.

The number indicates the pieces per serve. I wasn't particularly hungry and this was enough food for me. The wings were generously sized, Vietnamese style (dry not smothered in sauce). They were tasty, but I wouldn't order them again. The Bao were DIY style with pickled carrot and zucchini and mayo/hoisin or siracha sauce for your choice of toppings. The chicken was super tender, crunchy and juicy- I would totally order this again, and I was glad I didn't have to share it with others! Two was the perfect amount. Lastly I had the fish bahn mi with mayo and dill. While it was a cute and satisfying size, I wasn't a huge fan of the combination. Traditionally Bahn Mi is bbq pork or chicken, and I was intrigued that Uncle offered fish, tofu or crispy pig ear. I think I should have picked the crispy pig ear because it was the favourite nibble of the night according to everyone else who had it. I would totally go back to Uncle and try different options, family style in particular to try even more variety of plates and flavours.

Our table shared lot of tasty morsels - from trout salad and chicken ribs to pork belly and fried tofu bites. The chicken ribs were my favourite and a good sharable portion.
