you might as well face it...
    chris r.

the last time i tried to buy fireworks it was july 3rd, i was 17, and i was blindly rushing from store to store in chinatown. the dialogue between me and whoever was behind the counter would go something like this: me: hi. do you have any fireworks? clerk: no. no fireworks. me: come on. really? clerk (with stern look): no fireworks. after about the tenth store, i realized it was not going to happen. fast forward to now: we head to pennsylvania and leave with our own keychain "pyro cards" and a car trunk half-full of fireworks. the sad thing about keystone fireworks is if you're a pennsylvania resident, you can only buy certain fireworks without a permit. it's a little strange because all of keystone's stores are located in pennsylvania. but hey, the law's the law, and i don't live there. it's hard for me to do this place, and the multitudes of fireworks lining the shelves, justice. prior to this i didn't know that there were so many different varieties of roman candles. there were at least ten! bottle rockets? there were regular bottle rockets. there were whistlers. and if that weren't enough, there were glittery bottle rockets. there was also Sky Banger. it sounds like an adult film about the mile high club, but it's really a missile with a loud report. still, it was kind of a running gag for the rest of the day. i could go on and on about the selection, but it would make this too long to read. this is my first visit to a fireworks store, and i left happy. ok, i was ecstatic. if you go before may 31st, EVERYTHING in the store is buy one get one free. everything. there is no mix and match, save for the 500 gram cakes, but come on, that's an amazing deal for early 4th of july fireworks shoppers. or for people that decide to make a return trip during the winter to see what lighting roman candles during a snowstorm looks like.

(Full disclosure: I was a fireworks fiend as a kid that had a side-hustle that brought in some…read moredecent money every summer until me and my friends got pinched by the po-po in NYC and that entire 'operation' went kaput.) It wasn't even planned but the fam found ourselves with some time to kill when we reached PA and it's the 4th of July weekend so we decided to pull into the parking lot and immediately marveled that everyone walking out of the place had these massive black garbage bags and how insane everything seemed.  (We'd become those very people in less than 10 minutes, mind you.) A kid walking into a candy shop. A drunk walking into a bar. However you define complete and utter bliss... that was me when I stepped foot into the place and it looks a bit like a BJ's or Costco (but housed in an old repurposed church) - just wide aisles with a ridiculous amount of goodies of every shape and size.  Everything is neatly stacked and stocked with all sorts of names and logos and pictures to lure you (and your wallet) towards them. If this place offered those oversized shopping carts - I might've maxed out my credit card. And what's not to love about a place that's open till one-in-the-morning on weekends?!  (I mean... anyone showing up after 10pm looking for fireworks is up to no good and definitely having a better time than the rest of us!) Remember those itty-bitty tanks from back in the day (the ones where the cardboard wheels never actually worked)?!  Now they have ones maybe ten times the size.  (Oh - those little tanks can be found in some of the 'variety packs' of fireworks - which are awesome, by the way.)  Of course they also have all the usuals... skyrockets, jumping jacks, smoke bombs, sparklers, champagne poppers, you name it. NJ revised their laws a few years back to allow for some okay/decent fireworks but the stuff here could easily rival what your local town offers when they do their fireworks display every year. When night fell and we were heading back home to Jersey and decided we had to make a second visit here but a serious traffic accident rerouted us in a completely different direction or we would've had two garbage bags of stuff. (There's always next year, I suppose...)

Great place their prices were much better than their competitors. I will be coming back here next…read moreyear.

Went for the Jack O Lantern show on a Saturday evening…read more Large parking lot with lots of spaces. Doors open promptly at 6pm. You will NOT be let in if you arrive earlier. The walk-through start time was delayed a bit as they wanted to wait for it to get darker before starting...so those who purchased tickets for 6:00, 6:15 and 6:30 had to wait until about 6:40-45 until they began to let people in. The massive crowd gathered at the gate at around 6:35 dwindled down very quickly once they started to let people in. The walk itself took about 25 minutes...this is with stopping to take photos. The crowds were very manageable. It was never a issue where there was a backup or disruption of the flow of traffic throughout the walk...so kudos to them for limiting the reservations for each time slot. I do think the overall price of $24 per person was slightly higher for the walk-through experience. I would think $15ish would have been more appropriate. One thing to keep in mind that their FAQS state that not carvings are real pumpkins...this became pretty clear as you walk throughout the tour and get an idea of which ones were not real. Not a big deal...but does take away from the "wow" factor of the actual carved pumpkins. I do have to say that the surrounding attractions were a nice bonus. There was live music, a large tented seating area and multiple food vendor selling beer, smores, nachos, pizza, hot dogs and other items. These vendors were very reasonably priced in my opinion. Given this "bonus" I didn't mind the price of the walklthrough. Lots of photo ops as expected. All staff we encountered were very nice.

This is in regards to the Halloween jack o lantern show. The advertisement claims "6000 hand carved…read morejackolanterns" what they don't tell you and you'll soon realize is they are fake as in not carved pumpkins. Then they advertise a "beer garden with 30 craft beers". Its a roll out cart and couple of "kegerators" with 5 tap beer and a few canned ones. None are craft beer unless you consider yuengling, coors and Sierra Nevada craft beer, and they're 8 bucks each! The petting zoo was 5 goats and 2 alpacas. This would've been a fun little walk if the pumpkins weren't fake and the price was half of the ridiculous 20 dollars a person.
